This auction company ripped me off by overcharging on shipping via Live Auctioneers...I won a $40 necklace, and they said the package would weigh 3 lbs and cost $29 to ship to me in FL via Fedex!!!...I had to pay it because the lady I spoke to said it was the only shipper they used, no usps postal delivery comes there...How ridiculous! First of all the necklace did not weigh 3 lbs even packaged!! When I received it in the mail I weighed it on my digital postal scale, it weighed 7.5 ounces in the box! I called Fedex and they told me it cost $11 for a 3lb package and thats with insurance...The lady I spoke to there said the shipping department quotes these prices...so another words they charge whatever they want! So they lied about the weight on the shipping label as it said 3 lbs, when in fact it only weighed 7.5 ounces. Then they lied about how much shipping cost...so BEWARE of this unscrupulous company that makes money off shipping!! Shame on you!

Very bad experience.

Very bad experience.
They sold the item I won in auction to someone else.
No explanation, no apologies and seems normal to them.

Outstanding, highly knowledgeable people. Helpful and kind in every respect. On the one situation where there was a misunderstanding, they quickly and effectively resolved. Trustworthy and great to deal with.

We live in West Texas out where the buffalo still roam, the wind howls and the coyotes harmonize through the night. Even though my wife and I live out in the wilderness, we still love the niceties of antiques. Especially furniture like tiger maple pieces, Windsor chairs, and the like. This week we purchased an antique settee by way of auction and had the occasion to deal with John Nye of John Nye & Company. What a nice and interesting man. This was our first purchase through an electronic auction. As novices John shepherded us through the process with great patience. A good man. I recommend you use his company's services.

For buyers: They are actually not bad as their auctions don t attract crowd of in-house bidders so bid with confidence.
For Sellers: Before you consign please make sure you read their contract very carefully. Be ready to give them close to 50%, not 30% after all their insurance and picturing fees are added together. Also when you collect unsold items, check for any damages right then and there as their attempts to resolve any of your complaints later on will be quite vague.

Well, I wish that I could say that my antiques turned out to be real. But, sadly, no. But it is great to know that they are pretty much worthless, so I can either sell them for virtually nothing or give them to charity. It's really helpful to know because I am liquidating an estate. What I mean is that this is a company that will tell you the truth. And then you can figure out what to do next. I find that refreshing!

My father and I have worked with NYE for years and they are great. The entire team from John & Kathy to Pat, Sean and Ron are very professional, organized and just good people. We always look forward to going there and think of them as friends.

This auction house charges you a Buyer s Premium ...

This auction house charges you a Buyer s Premium , as if it is somehow a great privilege that you are allowed to buy from them. Just think about it. Would you go into any other business and pay this. Go into any major or minor retailer. Pick say $1000.00 in merchandise. You get your sales slip and they want $1250.00 plus any applicable taxes. You show them the mistake and they tell you it is a Buyer s Premium . Would you pay it? Why pay it here? The hammer price is the same as the price in a retail shop. Why are you paying more?

The bidder has $1,000.00 to spend on an item you have consigned and must take into consideration the buyers premium. Say that premium is 20% that means on the $1,000.00 dollar item there is only $834.00 to spend before the rest is eaten away by the premium. The higher the premium the less the bidder has before the rest is eaten away by the premium.

Just something to think about.
