A very nice archaeological site. It is really hot there and the sun is not much protection, but you can take a break under the trees on the outer edge of the area. Many signs are there to read the story of Knossos. Unfortunately only in English and Greek. The price for an adult is 15 .

15 Eur for an excavation site, which is not botched with reinforced concrete and concrete block, is very bold. A few passages still seem to be original, but not in proportion to the hype surrounding the excavation. Without a guide (of course extra) not very informative about the few tables available (information basically only english and greek)

A really interesting historic place, worth a visit. If you go there by car, there is free parking just in front of the entrence. So you don't have to use the private / paid parking spots on the way there.

Absolutely positive! We quickly found parking, free entrance strangely .. a lady stopped us asking us if we wanted to do the guided tour with an Italian speaking guide only 10 more than the normal ticket price, and it's worth it .. with 2 in addition there is also the entrance to the museum but we have not purchased it. This guide made us jump the queue and get done quickly because this tour had already begun with other people, then eventually it lasted about an hour. The tour itself was pleasant, informative and absolute cultural impact, given the stature of the place, the cradle of European civilization

Nice historical spot. High entry fees, but european students have entrance for free (you have to show your student card though)!! The site is not very grand, that is why, I finished the tour after less than 1 h. I recommend a guided tour (ca 10 eur pp).

We almost bought the places on the internet and we did not do it! 25 per person for only the entrance.
Arrived on site, we were accosted by a French guide who took 10 / pers and 15 for entry into the palace. We did not even queue!
This old palace is really worth visiting, but with a guide who knows the subject, otherwise we miss many details and we appreciate less the historical aspect of the palace.

It has been a while, but I would gladly return without a "too talkative" guide, people like the explanation to a certain extent, the information reminds you better if you buy a book or simply a map with photos and illustrations "of course "so you will always remember them, because you have them with you at hand; but unfortunately today there are electronic devices and they do everything!

One of the must-see attractions if you are in Crete.
Easy access even if you do not have a car. (There is the city bus Knossos 2 which runs every 15 ')
Well maintained space and clean.
The colors, the architecture as well as the philosophy behind the palace will reward you for your choice to go.
The ticket is a bit stingy but the students are entitled to half and the large ones enter for free.

It must be seen if you came in Crete. I suggest you to buy the double ticket: Heraklion Archeological Museum + Knosso Palace(16 , 8 for students), for two reasons: First, buying the ticket at Heraklion Museum it's faster than spending 3 hours in queue at Knosso's tickets office. Second, at Heraklion you will have the possibility to better understand the history, functions, structures of Knosso Palace.

This archeological site has been brought to light from sir A. Evans in early '900. He also tried to reconstruct some parts with an extensive use of concrete.

Given the hot daylight it should be better to visit the Palace during the late afternoon.

There are mostly ruins left (of course) and much have been rebuilt or replaced later. The tour guides give an extensive presentation of the archaeological site and are well worth the ten euros to get the complete picture. If you are in Heraklion it's a must see, but you need to be a real history buff if it's going to be worth the about three hour long one-way trip from Chania. Go in the morning to avoid the worst heat and lines.

We wanted to visit the Italian speaking guide, but there were no Italians. We did it by reading our TCI guide; even if the reconstruction is based on many perhaps, the place and its history are very suggestive.

I think it is a must in the visit to Crete for being a unique place in the world, although we must bear in mind that they are ruins and that what little is seen, is rebuilt.
Admission is 15, 16 including the archaeological museum where the original pieces are. On the internet there are many offers to jump the queue, but actually the queue is not so long and if you buy the guide, you do not have to wait.
The visit should be done with a guide, because you understand much better what the palace was like. However, the subject of the guides is complicated. At the entrance there are many guides who offer the one hour tour for 10 person although they do not leave with less than 8 people ( 80). Therefore we must wait for a group to form. In the case of the Italian group there is no problem (at least the day we went because there were many Italian tourists) but for Spanish or English we had to wait or pay 80, which is a little heavy or expensive (we were more than one hour waiting). On the internet they offer tours with prior reservation, but I think they are more expensive (at least those that we found).

Interesting and nice. A place with great views. Students with ID cards enter for free. Good access by city bus from Heraklion city center. There is a deficit of parking spaces on site.
Is it worth it? I leave it for my own judgment.

Yes .. very interesting .. but unfortunately .. like so many places hopelessly crowded. and the middle of October and without the poor fancy Thomas Cook travel victims. But who visits Crete must visit Knossos? Shortly before reaching the actual parking lot locals try to lure the motorists to their private parking (at the first tavern). ignore and continue on the official bus parking .. below you can park the car for free. Again, the early bird catches the worm. Children (also obviously big teens) come in for free. We stood for about 10 minutes in line. Attention, suddenly new snakes are opened at random. Toilet costs .. behind the entrance barrier no more WC, also here for the ladies queue. At 10:20 am, there were already 26 buses in October. In front of the entrance, guides abide ... contrary to their testimony one can get well informed on the site, as far as one has taken care in the English lessons at school. The souvenirs are cheaper elsewhere in Crete. Relatively unfit for disabled people. The (rest) temple already worth seeing. After all, one of the oldest buildings in Europe. The museum is then unfortunately in the city .. the journey through the chaotic traffic, we have therefore given us and are the beach direction Rethymnon.

With a guide, which we had booked locally at the entrance, (10, - / pers) it was interesting. Expensive bookings through the tour operator or the hotel can be saved.
The tickets we could buy for 15, - / pers without long waiting times.
The online maps for 16, - and English explanations are not recommended, as local people reported.
The place itself is not spectacular.
We had seen better excavations.
A must is not this tourist spot.
Why this is called as the top sight in Crete is beyond us.

Very good in combination with the museum.
There is also a combined ticket for 16 euros.
The guided tour is not recommended. It is better to read about it yourself beforehand and save the 10 euros per person instead of a 20-minute lecture without having seen anything and only then start the tour.
We were 8th on the tour and it was exhausting for young and old

Open space, so although it's September, it's hot like a pan. It's worth coming as soon as possible in the morning; fewer people - and thus no crowds at the ticket office and, above all, look nicer pictures. It is worth buying a combined ticket, i.e. to the Knossos palace and to the Heraklion museum: almost half of the price is left.

Honestly I was so disappointed. The "palace" was almost completely covered in concrete and rebuilt awfully over the original ruins by the archaeologist who was leading the digg when it was discovered. Its all guesswork and I don't believe that so many rooms in the palace would have worked as "storage" like the archaeologist thought! But if you want to visit anyway I would recommend you to hire one of the guides from the outside because there is very few information signs inside. It is necessary with a guide to understand what you are looking at.

Fairly interesting to walk around. If you're in the area I would definitely go see it. If you do buy a ticket to go in, save the ticket because you can then use it to get entry into the museum in the city nearby.

Overcrowded and the archaeological sights are not really remarkable - most of it was restored in the imagination of its discoverer. There are a lot of guides at the entrance aggressively trying to sell you a tour of this place but I wouldn't recommend it - they'll just show you some pictures and tell you stuff that you can easily read on your own.

This is such a strange site to visit - unlike most archaelogical sites, from the 1920s onwards it has been partially reconstructed by the owners. Reading afterwards the different views of historians as to which bits are probably accurate and which aren't is almost as much fun as the visit itself!

It's a reasonably small and self-contained site, easily manageable in a few hours if it's not too crowded (we arrived when the gates opened and were out before most of the crowds showed up).

Out of town, but easily accessible on public transport - and note that the ticket also covers the archaelogical museum in Heraklion, where the movable finds from the site are on display.

A beautiful place. I have not regretted the visit. The best thing to do is to buy a combination ticket for 20 euros, which you can use to visit the Archeological Museum. Many finds from the Knossos Palace can be seen in this museum, including also restored frescoes.

Some complain about Knossos as "very crowded". I was there from 12 noon to 1.30 p.m., could easily keep my distance from other tourists and even managed to take pictures without people in the background. So don't be afraid of huge crowds, at least in the Corona period.

Guided tours are offered at the entrance to Knossos (approx. 1.5 hours, 12 euros). You can also borrow a tablet for 15 euros, which enables an independent 3D tour. I didn't use any of these options and read signs in the palace. It was completely enough.

Were the second time in the Palace of Knossos - I can give the main recommendation: by all means look for a guide. Otherwise, the walk will be a little entertaining and useless. But to find it, if you visit a place not as a group, but individually, it will not be easy. The first time we managed to join the group of Teztur, and the journey through the palace was very rich and interesting. The second time we were there with relatives, in particular, there was no guide, so it was just a walk through the ruins with a photo.

Fantastic archaeological site, the best way to visit is with a guide, unless you are passionate about Minoan civilization. Well maintained, ticket perhaps a little high, between entrance and guide are 25 , but undoubtedly for the charm and history it is worth it. To visit!!!!

Amazing place to visit. I definitely recommend it to everyone. You can easily sink 1-2 hours without realising it. There is a small but fairly good restaurant near the entrance. You are surrounded by trees which makes the scene even better. Be sure to check the weather before you visit however.

Magnificent museum! It presents important discoveries from the Knossos excavations: the famous Bull-Leaper sculpture, the brilliant frescoes of jumping dolphins and the beautiful set of "snake goddesses".

Our first visit for eight years. Entrance charge is now 15. The place was extremely crowded as several coachloads from a cruise ship had just arrived making it difficult to take any photos. There's more to see now as excavations have obviously continued since our last visit but inless you are a scholar of Minoan history, you'd have a job to stretch your visit out to more than an hour. Too much concrete everywhere. A real shame.

The Palace of Knossos is a very large and interesting ruins complex, which should best be explored with a guide. Corresponding offers are made at the entrance and cost significantly less than z.b. on sites like getyourguide.
You get a lot of interesting information about the history of the palace and the country and still can take lots of pictures. After the tour, we were able to move freely.
Everyone should have been here

If it is a hot day, it's hard to get around as very exposed. Interesting to see but there are many reconstructions, so has the feeling of being a bit false. Outside there are many souvenir shops and cafes, we ate in the bar on the site and it was surprisingly good and not too expensive. The staff in the shop on site were very rude, i bought a guide book and the guy virtually threw my change at me with a grunt.

Very small archaeological site, with nothing really ancient, many ruins are rebuilt and it shows. Having also seen sites like Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabia, this absolutely does not hold up to comparison.

The palace we met with a ruin went many years ago, an English archaeologist simplifying the restoration of each side with concrete already in the fact that not only to pay fifteen euros to enter into a place we notice our historical place.

Always wanted to come here as I'm very interested in the Minoan civilisation. Loved the site, very evocative. Evans' 'improvements' both add and detract from the experience, in my opinion.

A Minoan palace, a civilization prior to the Doria...

A Minoan palace, a civilization prior to the Dorians and the Greeks, partially restored and almost entirely tarred! Of the 4 palacial sites of the Crete this one is certainly the least well highlighted! The restoration dates from the end of the 19th century and imposes a vision that is now mistaken for the organization of a Minoan palace. All the explanations are to be updated. Avoid the site between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. due to the crowds and the heat
