I scheduled an appointment to discuss cabinet refacing and received a phone AND email confirmation of the date, time, and address of the appointment. My wife and I went out of our way to be there for the appointment, but no one from Kitchen Magic bothered to show up or call to indicate they were running late or needed to reschedule. I emailed them to see what happened to them and have yet to receive a response. At this point, even if they make an effort to reschedule, their estimate won't matter because I'd rather pay someone else more to do the job than deal with an unprofessional company like Kitchen Magic. Don't waste your time!
UPDATE: I was contacted THREE days after the appointment with an apology from their office with the excuse they discovered the following day their designer had a family emergency and was unable to contact me. It doesn't take a math whiz to realize that means it took them TWO more days after discovering they missed my appointment for their office to email an apology (not even a phone call) and try to reschedule. If I could change my rating from one star to zero I would.
Wanted to redo my kitchen with out the mess, these guys made it happen by refinishing the cabinets. No mess, really no construction. Recommend. They are also great neighbors.
Impossible Company to Deal With
The only thing that is quick and done politely by this company is taking your money. After spending over $22k, we were screened at by the owner and hung up on when we asked to reschedule installation. The installer was polite and efficient and the cabinets look good. But recently one door fell off in my hand and the cabinets are peeling. We have been calling for over a month to get these things fixed and we just get excuse after excuse but no installer has called to schedule a visit to help us. We have a warranty but it is useless document. We used this company once before and the service has gone downhill. In fact, one of the nice owners we dealt with no longer works there.
We can no longer recommend this company.
Had my cabinets done about 5 yrs ago. Had a excellent experience and exceptional workmanship. Just recently one of the lower cabinet doors broke. I called the main # and received a call back the next day from Rick. I explained the situation and the cabinet had broken, at first he questioned if it was covered by the warranty. However, after the discussion he said it may cost around $100 and they would need to do some staining to match the other cabinets, since they were natural cherry and they darken with age. I told him I d send some pics. I must have copy down he s email address, because it bounced back. Go busy and never followed up. I didn t hear anything for a week and a UPS package arrived with the door. Looks great, the color difference is barely noticeable. From my experience this is great company. It s great value and stands above other competitors customer service. Thank you Kitchen Magic
Bad experience.
1. First time around Kitchen Magic "crew" hanged only a semblance of protective enclosure around the work area while taking the old veneers off and the whole first floor was covered with saw dust. (During the final attempt they hanged a good one and the house stayed clean).
2. Replacement veneers came in faulty twice. So the project was put on hold for a total of 1.5 month. That is 1.5 month of chaos instead of the promised 4-5 days. All together the project took exactly 2 months.
3. The first "crew" was doing a poor job and my wife or myself had to constantly watch them over and point out defects in their work. The last "crew" was good.
4. Kitchen Magic also installed the new wall oven. After they left we realized it wasn't leveled. The project manager promised to send a worker to address the issue. The worker never came. At that point I was too exhausted of dealing with KM and just hired someone else to correct the problem.
Since I was very vocal about all of the above KM gave me a concession around 10% of the total cost.
First, the installation itself was very good. No issues there. We did have significant issues with Kitchen Magic in the final week. My brother signed a contract with Kitchen Magic to complete the work stated above with a 1/3 down-payment More
I made the mistake of paying them in full before the project was finished. Ric Gottschalk failed to finish the job after promising to return and won't reply to me now. He really fooled me.
From the initial product presentation to the initial estimate this is the most professional company we have ever experienced. When the second measurement was taken to verify the accuracy of the initial measurement and estimate I knew this was going to be a great experience. The installation was conducted by true craftsmen who know woodworking and the final product is a woodworking work of art. The service and quality is absolutely outstanding. Highly recommended.
This is the most unprofessional, inappropriate company I have ever dealt with. I arranged have someone come to my house and provide an estimate for refacing my cabinets (the Thursday 7:30 pm appointment in Arnold, MD in case the supervisor cares to read this). The man I dealt with was unbelievable. I began to tell him what I wanted to accomplish, he stopped me and asked where the rest of my family was. I said that my wife and kids are at the YMCA and will be back within a half hour. He said 'I might as well leave then, because we don't do any consulting until everyone is here'. Did I mention that I said my wife would be back within 30 minutes? I said that my wife and I have sat down and made clear decisions on exactly what we want accomplished, its just a matter of finding out who can accomplish it for the best value, besides, I have 4 young kids and even if my wife was here with all of them at least 1 of us wouldn't be able to do much listening or responding. He then said 'I know of a good kennel that you can leave you kids at for a week'. Seriously?!?!?!? He then began to get political and rip ObamaCare, I have no idea why, plus politics is never something to talk about with complete strangers as its typically a touchy subject. He then started to argue with me about the need for my wife to be here before he did anything. I would assume that if you are trying to earn business you wouldn't argue with the person inviting you into their home who was hoping to do business with you.
Not that anyone seeking service should have to, but I tried to explain why it would be ok if he at least got started with information gathering by stating that my wife and I have spent ample time discussing what we want and that I'm in the real estate rehabbing business (as to provide some credibility to the fact that it would be ok for him to do something while waiting for my wife to come back) and he began to state that I was lying by saying ' a lot of people say that they are in real estate rehabbing, I was a VP for a development company and built thousands of homes blah blah blah.....The way in which he talked to me and the things that he said made made me feel as though I was an idiot who is incapable of knowing how to communicate with or understand my spouse. He made me feel as though I was a child who can't make any good decisions. I am not an emotionally sensitive individual, so the rest of my night will be pleasant, but I thought it prudent to make sure everyone knows the truth about this horrendous company.
STAY AWAY!
I will NEVER use this company for ANYTHING, even if it costs me double!
A year ago we hired Kitchen Magic to reface our cabinets as well as to concert a space into a pantry. After a year, the mitre joints, cabinet doors and drawers, crown and shoe molding, and veneer all look great, even with three kids in the house.
They helped us design the door to drawer conversion and pantry to maximize our usable space. The maple door from fronts were a nice grade of work, without knots, and very well finished so wiping them down does not impact the wood.
The carpenter, whose name I forgot, was very professional in both work and manner.
All in all, a good job for a good price.
