Another Kimpton win! The team at The Drake is incredibly kind and helpful. Lots of bars, meeting areas and very quiet floor. High up the views are great.. I highly recommend.

Room was great size for San Francisco, on the top available floor, and staff were courteous. Love the wine hour. Location is right next to Union Square! Unfortunately elevators were out of service and that upgrade to the top floor quickly became a downgrade in terms of waiting.
We always stay at the Sir Francis Drake when we come to San Francisco. It's a great location and a charming hotel.
Older hotel. Beatiful lobby and common areas. Small rooms. Good staff.
The location is great. However, I had to buy ear plugs during my stay. So so noisy and the next room was up all night talking. The walls are like they're not there.
The mattresses are very good, the service excellent, the location top, in this hotel there is a bar on the 21st floor and right now they have a very good show. I would stay here again, right in front of the hotel is a cable car train station. The restaurant here is also highly recommended, the best swordfish on my trip
Very nice hotel, great location right in the center of San Francisco. Very close to tram and bus stops!
Excellent venue. Went for a conference nice. Would recommend.
Great view in Starlight, food was good and cocktails were delicious.
Fantastic venue for wedding. Temperature regulation in the shower was impossible, either ice cold or scalding hot and nothing in be tween
Great hotel with super friendly staff. The only thing is that they sometimes drop the prices in the day off, so you pay a high premium when booking ahead
I stayed here for a business trip because it was an approved hotel for reimbursement. The pictures looked really nice, but the hotel didn't live up to the hype. The carpet in my room was curling up at the corners, and when I pulled down what I thought was the top sheet on my bed, there was no fitted sheet on the mattress and there was a bunch of hair. It was gross. They also charge an extra $100 PER NIGHT as a deposit that needs to be paid up front. Since the rooms are already grossly overpriced and nothing is included except a place to sleep, this place feels like a rip off.
Great location. Old hotel which makes it rough around the edges but you can't blame the place. It has charm and character. It's beautiful.
Excellently positioned, English Elizabethan styled, comfortable & welcoming
Large older hotel on powell street. Easy to get to from the Bart and great people at the front desk
A beautiful and special place with past and future significance
The entrance the the Sir Francis Drake hotel is quite impressive. You have a high ceiling entrance and the employees are very welcoming. The rooms are quite clean and is conveniently located in the Financial District (at least convenient for me). With that said, there's always room for improvement. The bathroom door does not close or lock, which was fine for me since I was traveling alone. However, had I been traveling with others, that might have been a problem. Also, the soap was very strong in scent and looked very cheap ( pumped from large containers attached to the wall.)
Older Hotel but location is amazing and the
Ambience - priceless.
This is one the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Beware - pay the extra dollar....stay somewhere else!
Great location and friendly staff. Can be a little noisy when the trolly starts in the morning. For a little taste of San Fran walk up and down the street after midnight and meet some friendly people.
Great service and friendly staff. However, the room is quite small and the shower was not great. The water was lukewarm at best and did not even drain properly.

There were charges besides the one I received during the check-out. I emailed, called, and even left them a voice message but no response yet....
Elevators were extremely slow and $6.00 for bottled water? Everything else was fine
This was the absolute worst hotel stay since I was in college! We approached the bar at 5 till 11 and waited while the bartender dried glasses. He then approached us at (literally) 11:01 to say the bar closed at 11. The room is smaller than my toddler s closet and for a kimpton hotel, this place is kiddin itself. $70 to park. $9 for a bottle of water.the room is equipped for one person. To coexist, you need to call out your location. I felt as if I was waitressing again, in the smallest kitchen ever. I live close by and am embarrassed by the gross abuse of tourism. Do not stay at this hotel! and by the way, the air conditioner doesn t work. Did I mention, the elevator is literally right next door.
Really lovely historic building with a great restaurant
Drinks at the bar were delicious and the staff was fantastic!
Parking is pricey but you can come & go as you please it's valet only. Lots of places in walking distance for shopping & eating. Right in front of street car.. Hotel is clean but not the comforters. Old but cozy .. bathtubs a little old.. has heat & window opens a crack.. funny smell in elevators & in main lobby.. staff are helpful & friendly
Great atmosphere, and great customer service. The room was a bit cramped, however, for the price I paid.
Location is great on Powell St and the trolley buses stop outside and Union Sq is a short walk down the road (great for sitting and watching the world go by). Rooms are good, beds very comfortable however if you're short you may have to do a jump or get a step as the beds are high. Bathroom is fine with lovely complementary shampoos etc. Staff are very polite and professional.
Tiny room. Hotel has gotten run down, elevator issues...great location.
Great location next to Union Square and shopping. My room was beautiful and the team was friendly. I will stay here again!
This hotel is highly overrated. The room was tiny and had many issues. First our room was close to the elevators and right next to a maintenance closet and with the walls being thin, they shouldn't use that room. The tub in the closet bathroom looked like it was hacked up and paint was coming off all over and even the shower curtains looked like they were starting to fall apart. The parking is ridiculously expensive (luckily there is a garage around the corner that is more in line with normal prices). The WiFi doesn't work. They have free coffee in the morning but we found out they end it earlier then they say. If you are staying closer to checkout, three different people all come by to bother you even after you say please come back later. I could go on but in short, I will not be staying at this hotel again and have already told my friends planning a trip there not to go as well. There are better options for much better prices.
I wanted something different from the chains. This lived up to my expectations. The rooms are very small and coffee pot is given on request and not just in the room. The staff were very friendly and if the rating was on the staff alone I'd give a 5. The value for the room size us not really there. However the cable car stops right at the door which is great for a tourist.
I will stay here again.
Good service by the manager in front desk. However, small and very old room, smallest bathroom I have ever seen (I have stayed in many many hotels as I travel very frequently for work purpose), no room in the bathroom for even to keep the toothpaste and toothbrush, no room to keep your clothes in the bathroom when you are ready for a shower, no lock in bathroom door, broken light, very old & slow elevator. Overall way below expectation.
Nice hotel friendly staff. The bellman and valet take a little long to do things. Nice room but small. Bed was okay.
I just checked into this hotel early Monday morning and I have absolutely no idea how they charge so much for so little. My room is TINY and I do mean TINY, I've seen Motel 6 rooms that are much bigger. The bed literally takes up the entire room. The bathroom is so small I can't even get dressed in it, and the vanity/counter top is so small there is no place to put my toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. The pictures on the website are so deceptive, and there is no description of how small the rooms are. This is highway robbery! The walls are also paper thin, I could hear the people next to me clanking glasses and putting their change on the nightstand. I have a room next to the street and it is LOUD. I was awakened multiple times by large groups of people shouting and laughing at 3 and 4 am! Also there is a cable car that rumbles past and dings its bell starting around 6 am. This is NOT a 4 star hotel, it's barely a 2 star hotel and at these prices that's just criminal. I have already contacted Egencia to try and cancel or change my reservation to another hotel. Traveler beware!
I was not happy at all the fact the prices they are chargering is not ok am I paying for roaches. This is not an good place! I give them no stars nobody should have to go on vacation and have an bad experience anywhere they are try to enjoy. Asked to speak with management was told none was available which is sad. The sad part is that u offer food like that fixes anything no don t want it if this comes home with my wife and I then will have to deal with this and pay to have this taking care of so yeah we r very up set this is not ok at all. Will never stay there again in life .
The hotel is under construction. The jack hammer doesn't stop until 10pm. The elevators are really old, small, and rickety. I only ever saw one actually functional. Room service is very very basic but the food was good. Look in the dresser drawer for the alcohol and snacks. :) Staff was very nice.
The rooms were a little smaller than I thought they would be, but the hotel was wonderful overall. I love the entrance. It's so grandiose. The coctail hour from 5-6pm was a nice addition to our stay as well!
Amazing location but the rooms are tiny and the bathrooms are even more tiny. The hotel itself is very dated and the rooms are so small that I felt claustrophobic. No amenities in the room such as a fridge or coffee maker. The elevators are quite slow. The bed was quite comfortable. Not sure I'd stay here again. My first stay in a Kimpton Hotel, not the best experience. Also my room on the 15th floor should have been high enough to mask the loud noises from the street below but the old single pane windows let all the noise through.
Great great location. The best part is the Starlight room on the last floor, a classic in SF for drinks and cocktails. The rooms were renovated a few years ago and brought this classic hotel up to modern travelers' standards. Great spaces for meetings and events too, their lobby is one of my favorite ones in SF. It's a Kimpton Hotel so it's fantastic.
Room was small but nice. Excellent service. Nice amenities. Very small though. Small bathroom also. Slightly outdated. The rest of the hotel makes up for the size of the room.
Great hotel! I love ghost stories so it was really cool to hear about the history here. I even had an "encounter" myself where my lights were turning on and off on their own. Also their package service is phenomenal. Only complaint would be that the rooms need mini fridges and coffee/tea makers.
This place looks like the hotel version of Sunset Boulevard. I don't know what the rates are but if their reasonable it would be the best thing about the place. The room used was pretty but the food was not.
The hotel was ok. The lobby is very nice which raised my expectations of the room but when we got to the room it was a little disappointing. There was almost a constant noise coming from the washroom, I am assuming due to how old the building is. I dont mind hearing noise from outside but the walls separating the rooms were not soundproof. The washroom was very small which is ok and they did do some upgrades, but the tap wasn't positioned well and the counter kept getting soaked, they could have upgraded the toilet too. They upgraded all the locks while we were there which was nice to see, I hope they do some more upgrades as it is a great location and the room was clean. The top floor of the hotel had some good views of the city.
Neat place. There is a person dressed as a jester in front of the hotel which is kind of quaint. Bathroom did not have single electrical outlet. I'm astounded.
Lovely hotel. Crammed bathroom. Great location - hotel not bathroom.
Old style hotel in the heart of downtown San Francisco. Perfect location with access to everything. Great food at and around the hotel. A great welcoming bar in the lobby. Cozy and comfortable rooms. Friendly staff
Small rooms, good service, great location. Could stand some updates. Wifi is garbage
What terrible management... Let me begin by saying you will walk in to a gorgeous lobby. The minute human interaction takes place it all goes downhill. Me and two others booked a room through Priceline for a room with two beds. We were then given a downgraded room (single bed; 174sq ft) and after asking to resolve the problem was told it was priceline's fault and there was nothing they could do. They did not put us in another room, (even though I paid full price for the bigger room) and had no interest in compensation for their mistakes. I was given a "too bad so sad- now move along" tone and conversation each employee I spoke to.
On top of that I'm pretty sure they broke the law.. a fire alarm went off in the middle of the night, and only parts of the building had alarms going off. Many were confused seeing people rushing down the stairs, because their wing was not notified. Aren't hotels required to have their fire safety standards up to date? After asking a (quite a few) employees what had happened - no one knew a thing and seemed annoyed I asked. I'm sure this is not the only rough review this terrible hotel is getting this weekend.
Do yourself a favor and stay at the many respectible resorts in the surrounding area.
The room we got was really small and tight the bathroom was so tiny felt like staying in a tight place
This hotel is located in a good location but that is all you need to know. The lobby is impressive but the rooms are small and cramped. The windows are still the old single glazed style which is no good for keeping out city centre traffic noise. As for breakfast. Avoid it. $18 for a rather small cooked breakfast is outrageous and the waiter wasn't slow in telling us that we hadn't tipped enough. Here's a tip pal! Don't charge so much for such a paltry plate of food. Plus the hotel allowed dogs in the room. If the traffic noise does not get you then the barking will.
Great experience best time of my life. The service and the stop we're amazing everything that we needed they provided. I definitely recommend this place for a romantic weekend.
I want a refund for this room. They put me on the 2nd floor facing the street where there is 20 employees outside protesting the hotels wages. They knew about it and gave me the worst room in the whole place. They could have given me a different side of the building, but no. It turns out..they reserve the worst rooms for hoteltojight guests. They ve been protesting since 5am!! Filthy shower too.
Wine tasting 5-6 pm . Great location and good rates.
Classic hotel with the Starlight Room at the top! Free to go in and great drinks, food and the best views for free! See my night pictures from the Starlight Room!
Very nice hotel. The suite was spacious and the view was amazing!
We didn't stay there but had a chance to check out the rooms. The rooms are fairly small but the bathrooms are even tinier. It doesn't look like there is room to sit on the toilet and open the door at the same time. The whole building has a ton of character. The lobby is beautiful. The bar was great and they had a free wine happy hour during the week.
Dirty bathroom and was unhappy that they forgot to set my wake up call I requested.
Work had a party there, buffet ran out of food. Some guests waited around and got food that wasn't on the menu, mostly greens and no meat or they ended up not getting any food at all. Idk how you run out of food. I never got a refill on water and the waiters were scarce. The ballroom was nice though. Maybe the catering crew was off but the tickets were like 80 per guest. Luckily my guest was able to eat, it was like a food lottery. I would hate to spend that amount of money and have my guest suffer
The bathroom was very small. There were no tea provisions which was very disappointing. Most hotels in the UK have everything necessary to make a cup of tea as soon as you arrive! However you could borrow a kettle so we sorted it out ourselves. Popped out and got what we needed. Not impressed to have to do this though.
Love the lobby and location but the rooms are small and show the age of the hotel.
Smallest bathroom in a hotel ever, flip flop for scale.
Very friendly employees. Beautiful rooms. The only esque everywhere says free wifi. But if they charge it
Old charming piece of San Fran. Attentive staff with a flair for customer service.
Food (wedding) was good, decor is a bit dated, great view from the top floor.
Lovely hotel rooms and elegant design! It's like spending a night in a fancy English hotel.
Spectacular place! A lot of history and excellent attention!
