Best jazz in town. Plus, the crawfish are impeccable.
The owner of this place has cars towed while people are inside here and other nearby businesses (best towing). There is a shocking level of disrespect shown towards people. :(
Small cozy groovy. No food but chips though. Great wine.
Best dive bar in town. Great atmosphere, better people. Friendly and an cool assortment of events throughout the week.
Relaxed vibe, good service, excellent live music spot .
This is my favorite bar in Houston. Sunday nights are the best for hanging out.
It is cool place with it's independent cool and warm environment!
Great atmosphere and met some of the best people I know here. I love the Jazz and the Sunday food:)
I prefer girly sweet drinks, but bartender was very friendly, served us well, love the jazz.
i give this place double thumbs up. i've had nothing but pleasant experiences here and plan to keep coming back. prices were fair.
Came here for a meeting. Very chill place to hang out.
What a great place to chill out and drink wine. They have art and Darts. My spot in midtown to listen to some Jazz also. Best time is Sunday.
Fun little bar. People who park in Khon s lot but don t patronize his business (and therefore get towed) can go pound sand. He puts up signs at the entrances to the lot that clearly say that parking is for Khon s bar only.
Very relaxed and conveniently located in Midtown. Parking is available, but I could see that being an issue during high traffic hours. FYI restrooms are unisex, so be courteous to the next person.
Great beer. Really good wine. Absolutely amazing music. Really laid back, comfortable, and inviting environment. Plus best people ever. Oh yeah, and the craw-fish is what's up.
great atmosphere....wonderful bartender and just an awesome local bar
Hot spot downtown..music, art, darts, wie, coffee - all good.
Too dark to see the art. No live music. Once in a while a song played on the juke box. Maybe a couple of people were there.
Love love love Khon's! Since I don't drink beer, I wish the wine selection was a bit better. That is all.
Love the chill atmosphere of khon's relative to most other spots in midtown. I've practically fallen in love with every person I've met here - all the regulars are wonderful :)
There are zero yoga Matt's preaching the good word.
A cozy bar with vintaged and specialized selections of IPA Beer with comfy counches, live band and well lit drt bords. You can bring your darts, but there are some to borrow as well. There is also plenty of board games and computer games on flat screen tvs. The wait staff was attentive and very customer service forcussed. How could I forgot to mention the art work displayed throughout the bar, including the very eclectic restroom. I believe that the art is for sale. We had a gret time and will be visiting again.
Great service! Came in at 1am on a Saturday night and got free ribs. Hard to beat that.
Funky fun artsy dive bar. Very casual. New music space now too. Enjoy mid town locals. Walk from the train nearby!
A unique spot with good beer, wine, and sake, a laid back atmosphere, a regular clientele, and diverse music events
Great staff, management, and owner. Super chill and the regulars are very friendly.
A Houston institution. Kathryn and staff are amazing
Band is outstanding. Place needs some munchies tho.
Only the best little wine bar in town!! Friendly and cozy!!!
I researched and learned that Khon Lu is the building owner. My question is that did Khon Lu order Best Auto Storage tow truck drivers hiding on the top of the building to look out for cars to tow? I had pho to buy at Pho Saigon and banh mi to buy across the street. I got my car tow because I went to buy banh mi. They had tow trucks parked around the corner to tow cars. I like to know if this was an order from Khon Lu? If not, I sue Best Auto Storage, If yes or no answer I sue Mekong Center owner - It will be a Class Action, lot of people became the victims of this dirty money making towing business.
Love, love, love Kohn's! They have a great selection of beer and wine available. It's a really laid back atmosphere with lots of locals. Everyone here is really friendly and it's a great place to grab a drink and get to know people. On Sundays Kohn makes crawfish during the season and they are the best in town! Typically you can find everyone sitting outside and enjoying the weather and good company with their dogs.
The best thing is the people and atmosphere. Kahn is a really good guy, he's made a nice hangout. If you are into the club/ party scene then it's not for you. It's a melting pot of intellectual's, artists and odd folks. Think of it as a gardening of friends. I like the entertainment, usually it is quite varied and weird. If you are looking for a hook up at a party you will be disappointed, it's not that kind of place. It's very laid back without the usual social scene norms. For me personally it fits. But for the majority I don't think they would get it. Still, it might be worth it for you to check it out if you want a chance of place.
Live music and $2 Lone Star beer. Nuf said. No cover charge WHHAAATT??
I go for the experimental music
and local beer on draft.
It's not for everyone.
That's a good thing.
My home away from home, intimate, cozy, intelligent music, and a place where one can indulge in good company and great drinks. Plus, Troy (the bartender), is the best bartender in town...because he's real.
Khon's is a great place for music some nights, poker tournaments on certain nights but what makes the place special is Khon himself. He is very outgoing and a skilled grill/smoke master. He routinely cooks on his grill there and feeds his customers, free of charge. The food is delicious and the people that hang out there are very friendly.
When you can't find anything fun to do in Houston stop by Khon's, there is bound to be something fun going on there.
FYI In the same strip center is what I Consider the best Sushi in Houston - Fukouka. Try it out and you will know.
Heard good things about this bar until I went here recently. As soon as I parked in front of the bar and started walking towards my trunk, owner thought I was parking in front of his store and leaving to another store and started yelling at me that if I do not park elsewhere, he will have my car towed within the next 5 minutes. I informed him that I was just going to my trunk to grab my backpack so I could enjoy a few drinks and study, to which he replied "Bull**** you were bro, get the hell out of here before I have you towed." I did not want to give him any business so I left. I'm not sure if he was drunk or what his problem was but he needs to realize he's driving away business.
a definite new favorite spot. friendly bar tenders, felt very communal. a easy parking so thats a big plus
Dive bar galore. Wine and beer for eccentric tastes.
Background: Went here twice on a Friday and Thursday late afternoon/dinner time.
Look and Feel:
- Small shot-gun style bar in a shopping center. Not an attractive exterior and the only thing helping the interior is the art, which is pretty out-there, modern stuff.
Drinks:
- Beer: midtown prices without the midtown premier location
- Cocktails: didn't have any because I didn't trust them to make anything decent
CONS:
- The A/C was turned off and the open doors were the only source of ventilation...it was springtime and probably 80 degrees out. Just seemed like they were doing it to save money
- For it being 5pm on a Thursday/Friday at a bar off the main midtown track, the prices were not appealing
- Interior and exterior decor was lacking
Overall:
If I lived nearby I would go here. Otherwise, I would choose somewhere else to go. Not bad, just not worth making a trip to go to. Disclaimer: I've never been at night.
As a singer songwriter, I have felt the true honor of being able to sing On Sundays at Khon's. I even got off stage walked text door to the bar and opened up the first magazine that was actually full of ads and free promotions. I took my Mom to a photography class Come by and hang out with us! Tell them Earl da Pearl mentioned it. This place is so chill and laid back and feel free.
A hole in the wall joint with a surprisingly good band (Yellow Echo), and great customer service.
Khons is a great neighborhood gathering place that happens to serve beer and wine. You ll always find interesting art on the walls because the exhibitions to change fairly regularly. You ll find lots of happy people that are very friendly. And on any given Sunday it s likely that Khon will be out front barbecuing or boiling up some crawfish. But this isn t just an ordinary boil it s can t spoil and it s fantastic my favorite in the whole city.
Joe would love this place.?
it's the dirty car towing business happening at Mekong Center that makes business loose customers. Google it and see all the bad reviews. Crooks are on the top of the building looking out for cars to tow and tow trucks are hiding around the corner. You need to eat pho and buy banh mi across the street, if you go to banh mi first they would tow your car right way less than 5 minutes. As soon as they saw you getting out of your car and walking across the street to get banh mi at the other store, they would tow your car ASAP. I am working in downtown Houston, pho Saigon is my favorite place, I went there with co-workers often and now no one wanted to go to Mekong Center no more. Business are loosing customers because of this dirty towing Best Auto Storage company! Those crooks on the top of building are actually tow trucks driver. This Mekong Center owner needs to do something about this unethical dirty way to give tow company dirty money!
Great food on Sundays. Good beer and wine selection. Also has sake and coffee! Khon is awesome too.
Great atmosphere! 3 local bands played that night. They don't serve hard liquor, but have a good selection of beers and sake. The place was packed and full of high energy. Would definitely visit again.
Low key place, a little hard to find, but good people hang out there, and I re
