Great tour and tour guide, very knowledgeable. Beautiful caves.
Fairly suitable for toddlers although can be dark in some places which may frighten them. Also 2 place in caves which is too narrow for prams/buggy to pass, also set of 10 steps, had to lift ours a few meters and bump up the steps, doable but exhausting. Overall great place to visit, but carry your young children

We went last night to the new cinema night at the caves WOW! We saw the horror movie The Descent it was just brilliant good choice of movie for opening night I even jumped a couple of times, atmospheric is an understatement especially with a bat flying past. The acoustics were superb and the deck chairs were very comfortable, staff were so friendly and a nice introduction by the guide who took us into the cave. I highly recommended going along to experience it..fantastic night out. Thank you Kents Cavern.

The family and I loved it really good educational and fun Couple of hours. We didn't get to see the gardens because of the rain. They look amazing. Only a four though the guide was excellent clear and enthusiastic. However other peoples young children made it very hard to hear her all the time. If your in the area though it's a must. (May be they should try and keep little noisy one together)

Nice interesting tour of the caves with Cara our tour guide. Cara went through the explanation of how the caves were discovered and explored. When the lights went out it was really really dark. Most recommended if you are into this sort of thing, even if you aren't you may find it interesting with the backstory of the caverns.

Lots to see and do. There is a trail to find different aspecrs of Stone Age life and clues to solve a puzzle for children. The cavern itself is very interesting and made more so by the very knowledgeable guides. Plenty of exhibits to see and an on site cafe for refreshments.

We totally enjoyed seeing the Caverns was truly amazing, Had a lovely guide named Jo was great at explaining things and also funny , We didn't realise we had to book online , So we did it while there and had 2 hrs to kill b4 our time to go in , we sat at a table on the trail below the cafe, We could hear a lady constantly coughing in the cafe area , we could hear the constant coughing for at least 15 minutes , Well that then put me on red alert because of Covid, I don't know if the Lady actually went in or was refused entry as it said on the door if you have any symptoms please do not enter ? It made me a little paranoid as I didnt no if she had gone in or not ? But was a lovely visit except for the lady coughing , Defo recommend anyone to visit

Don't waste your money, only good if you have small children I suppose, or wait for the groupon offers to get it cheaper, prehistoric caves with a guide telling prehistoric jokes wasn't worth the full adult price...shame :-(

Excellent! My only tiny complaint (which applies to the majority of tourists attractions) is the mass of random unassociated rubbish in the gift shop. Need more Kents Cavern specific bit n bobs!!

Kents cavern is a nice place to find some history of Devon and the UK.
The guide that showed us the cave was very friendly and very playful with the kids. The tour felt more like a lesson with one of those teachers that tries to engage with the classroom, and it definitely worked. I was engaged and curious throughout the tour.
Luckily we were a small group so we didn't spent too much time waiting for the group.
over all was a fun experience.

If I have to be picky, the only small bothering thing was that we had to pay for the parking that was just outside the cavern, instead of making me pay twice, increase the price of the ticket and make me pay once. but guess this can be more a preference thing.

over all amazing experience and btw the pictures that i took was of a bear skull.

Very disappointing experience on two counts . First of all our tour included a very discontented baby who cried a lot and a small child who regularly gave ear piercing screams - Kent's Cavern really need to restrict access and state that it is unsuitable for small children. In addition to this - when you could hear the tour guide she was hard to listen to as she spoke far too fast and run all her words together. They obviously want to get as many people through as fast as possible!

We were very impressed with this attraction - a good place to go when you're feeling beached-out! The tour guide (Alan) was interesting and great with the kids in the group, and when our youngest was afraid of going in the staff were great with her.
AND they have a good cafe as well! What more could you ask for?

Had a good time here with my dad, girlfriend and sister.

Staff were all very friendly, Ursula in particular very chatty.

Guide was very entertaining, unfortunately there were a lot of children when we were there who wouldn't stay quiet during the tour but I can't fault the guide for that lol. Had a good time, some very cool local prehistory

Glad to see they are back open. Handling Covid well with good organisation of social distancing. Honestly a good time to go as restrictions are keeping groups to small sizes giving you better opportunity to see everythi g and take photos.
Wonderful guided tour by Tom

About Kents Cavern Ltd

Kents Cavern Ltd: Discover the Wonders of Prehistoric Life

Kents Cavern is a prehistoric cave located in Torquay, Devon, England. It is one of the most important and well-known archaeological sites in Britain, with a history that dates back over 400 million years. The cave has been home to ancient humans for thousands of years and is now an award-winning visitor attraction that offers tours, a shop, cafe and visitor centre.

The History of Kents Cavern

The story of Kents Cavern begins over 400 million years ago when the area was covered by a shallow sea. Over time, layers of sediment built up on the seabed and eventually formed limestone rock. Around 2 million years ago during the Ice Age, glaciers advanced across northern Europe and caused sea levels to drop dramatically. As a result, rivers cut deep valleys into the limestone rock creating caves such as Kents Cavern.

The first evidence of human occupation at Kents Cavern dates back around 500,000 years ago during the Lower Palaeolithic period. Archaeological excavations have revealed stone tools made by early humans who used them for hunting and butchering animals.

During the Middle Palaeolithic period (around 250-40 thousand years ago), Neanderthals lived in Kents Cavern. They left behind evidence such as flint tools and animal bones which suggest they were skilled hunters who used fire to cook their food.

In more recent times (around 10 thousand years ago), people from Mesolithic times visited Kents Cavern to collect water from its underground streams which were believed to have healing properties.

Visiting Kents Cavern Today

Today visitors can explore this fascinating cave system on guided tours led by knowledgeable guides who will take you through narrow passageways lined with stalactites and stalagmites that have formed over millions of years.

As you walk through these ancient chambers you will learn about how early humans lived here during different periods in history including how they hunted animals using stone tools or cooked food using fire pits inside the caves themselves!

In addition to guided tours there are also interactive exhibits at our visitor centre where visitors can learn more about prehistoric life including hands-on activities like flint knapping or making fire using traditional methods!

Our shop sells souvenirs such as fossils or replica stone tools while our cafe serves delicious locally sourced food including cream teas made with clotted cream from nearby farms!
