This place has an awesome atmosphere. The six one six restaurant has a live band Friday and Saturday. Food is excellent...I come here regularly for a bit and drinks.

We had a room on the 20th floor over looking the river! What a view!
Atmosphere was awesome, rooms are nice, booze was flowing.
Upscale trendy hotel in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. Great onsite restaurants too.
Such a beautiful room with a great view! Wish I could have stayed longer.
Great amenities. Six one six has great service. Best location in town.
We stayed overnight Saturday, Jan 28, to Sunday, Jan 29. We had a "Beer City" package. We were blown away by the room and the whole hotel.
The 4 beers included in the package where we could schedule a delivery time to our room were great, as were the snacks with the beers. The breakfast that was included in the package was phenomenal. The valet parking that was included in the package was very convenient when we called down to check out Sunday am.
The room was the best hotel room I have been in. I travel a lot for work so I don't get to stay in the "nicer" hotels but this room was great. The nicest room I had previously stayed was in Las Vegas and the JW Marriott was better, cleaner, etc. We had a fabulous view of the river as we were on the 19th floor. The room was spacious and the bathroom was amazing. The shower with the 2 heads and the adjustable arm was the best. Very spacious as well and clean.
We talked about the hotel several times since we left and we both said this was the nicest place we had ever stayed. We are looking to make plans for the summer and we will be staying at the JW Marriott.
Room was very clean and cozy. The front desk staff was extremely helpful, and the location was perfect. Next time we are in Grand Rapids we will definitely be staying here again.
Clean rooms, ready when we got there, beautiful bathroom!
Get a room on the club / concierge level. Nice views. Had a couples massage, was fantastic
I am so disappointed to have to write this review. I think the JW is one of my favorite hotels in Michigan. They have so much to offer. The restaurants and bars are great. The problem is, they don't do the one thing that hotels must do! At my stay this weekend they had a live band start playing at 8am and the bass woke me up in my room. The main point of a hotel is for a place to sleep and they completely failed me on that. I can't understand why on earth they would have a band play that early on a Sunday morning and disturb their guests sleeping. I'd give up the cool restaurants just to be able to sleep. Sigh.
Beautiful views and room. Very clean and great service.
Simply stunning. The staff is friendly and professional. Restaurant is on point and delicious food. I love the rooms and beds are perfection If I am back in town...this is where I want to stay!
Love this hotel! Super clean and the shampoo and conditioner smell amazing...
The hotel is nice don't get me wrong. The room was spotless which was nice. But don't expect to get ANY rest or sleep here. So frustrated right now. Have to be up for work at 4am. On the 6th floor and sounds like the band down in the lobby is in my room playing. The bass is so loud it is vibrating my bed and the piano might as well be in my room. There are no sound barriers the noise travels all the way up the tall ceiling into each floor. When I called down they said they could turn the bass down but ironically it only got louder. Hopefully I never get stuck here again especially on a weekend.
Could easily here noise in the hall guests talking and slamming their door at 12:30 am. Ordered room service for dinner the kale salad was mediocre not enough added to the kale and the salmon with it was undercooked I only ate the top and ends cost $21. Also for $300 a night the mattress was poor quality old style not even pillow top or soft and comfy like I expected in almost the best hotel in Grand Rapids. No complimentary coffee either just a long line at Starbucks which I didn t have time to wait. Nice toiletries in the bathroom however the aromatherapy fragrance was strong. Strong air freshener in the halls outside the rooms. The view of the city was nice in the room. With the large windows I had trouble sleeping because the heat did not maintain the temperature adequately it kept coming in and it was way to hot and than way to cold......
The guide menu to the tv channels was not updated inside the menu provided in the book with the remote tucked inside. So I didn t know what channels or which numbers were available unless I scrolled through. Overall not impressed my first stay here in the 16 th floor, and it s conparable to other hotels in the $150 range. Overpriced not enough high end comfort or amenities and so shocking actually never stayed at any hotel that did not offer coffee in the lobby! How cheap!
no breakfast continental pastries or otherwise and add parking have to pay for that too! Plan on spending $400 at the minimum for hotel parking overnight, morning coffee and breakfast. I will stay elsewhere. Overpriced to say the least.

Just went for lunch with the wife and sat on the 616 terrace overlooking the Grand River. Excellent food, excellent service and a very relaxing time. We'll be returning...
Terrible service at the restaurant where they refused to seat my party but opened outside seating for another group the same size. I am sure that because the other group was all white had nothing to do with this decision.
Fantastic views, amazing staff, very clean and modern
Beautiful accommodation in Ballroom and fantastic meal served graciously.
Super nice facilities. The workers were great -- especially the food service.
The facility is slightly dated. The amenities are nice
Very well managed, beautiful ambiance, wonderful service.
We were there for drinks before the kid rock concert. We had a large group and Mixology did a great job to accommodate us.
The building was very well maintained and the inside was exremely nice. I was there for a conference for 2 hours, no parking validation so parking cost was outrageous. I had never been there before and won't ever park there again, that's for sure. Attendant there wasn't the most pleasant either. But I'm always up for second chances, so we'll see what happens if there's a second time.
Beautiful hotel with excellent dining and hotel accommodations. Great place to meet up with friends.
Oh, great hotel. Excellent service, very friendly and clean and fresh air!
Great room with a view of the river. Great service.
Went for an event, was nice but didn't really see much of the hotel
It was a great location for Bishop Marvin Sapp's going away celebration. We miss his presence in our community.
I have had more then a couple overnight stays at the JW always finding my experience to be satisfactory. Rooms are clean and smell pleasent the bathroom has a shower and tub with the typical amenities you find at a hotel. The employees are friendly and helpful. Pool facilities and workout room are clean and easily accessible to hotel guests. Best of all I can use my military discount and get a decently priced room.
I was in town for a family gathering and they accommodated everyone perfectly.
Always five stars here. Great environment, great food, great service! Would highly recommend.
It's a very good hotel for almost similar pricing as courtyard downtown. Like the gym and the concierge lounge. Good service.
For $401 I expected a lot more than was received. Left overs from the previous customers were in the fridge, the WiFi didn t work, smudges on the windows. It s simply just over priced for food but the front desk associates were super helpful. I probably won t return.
Was there for Artprize. Very hospitable and clean despite all the foot traffic. Intriguing spaces for art as well.
The J Deck is an amazing spot to grab drinks and enjoy the river view.
Was alright alittle to much money for room and drinks
Beautiful rooms overlooking the river with great employees and easy to walk to lots of great restaurants.
The JW is a WIN! Every event, the staff and ambience has always been on point. Keep up the excellent job.
Great location. Our room was very clean and had high end amenities.
Rooms have great views on the riverfront. Not a huge fan on the artifical fragrances sprayed everywhere. Nice that praking is through your room key
Everything was perfect. The staff is excellent and the room was very clean.
A place with incredible presentation and good customer service seriously you can have a great time in this place
Ballroom was nice and service was friendly, but the food left much to be desired.
Went for banquet. Acoustic horrible in large banquet room. Food service marginal. Staff excellent. Men's bathroom a mess, paper towels not replenished, bar glasses not removed and floor a big mess. I thought this was suppose to be a nice venue. Nope
The hotel is great. Beautiful and kinda relaxed for being so big. Great walking options from here and the concierge level is rocking. Oh and the pool is kick ass
This hotel is the crown jewel of Grand Rapids. Exquisite waterfront view of the Grand River, top rated dining. From the moment you walk in, it's understandable that you're in for a fantastic experience. From guest services to being part of the downtown scene, you'll know that you are in one of the best places to stay in downtown GR.
Nice hotel, the food was good if rather pricey. Made the mistake of using their parking ramp.. Convenient but very expensive.
As usual, a great stay. Hospitality was wonderful and the room was as expected for the flagship hotel. Top notch in every department, which is why we stay here for special occasions.
A great Marriott property in Grand Rapids. As a rewards member, I enjoyed the lounge, especially the happy hour specials. Big rooms with wonderful views.
The room we were in was fantastic. The wait staff was absolutely amazing.
I went to the J.W. Marriott for ArtPrize, and I found it difficult to determine if the routes I was choosing would bring me to the art. More docents, signs, or a map might have helped. This is only a review of the J.W.'s ArtPrize presence and I was rewarded by Google Opinion Rewards to write it. In the past when I have been to the J.W. I have had nothing but positive opinions.
Beautiful place, rooms are smaller than the pictures online though so that was a surprise. Overall feel is luxurious, however one set of bed linens had multiple tears in it, and when they cleaned the room after the first night the robes were taken and not replaced. Also, you can hear the lounge music loudly while inside your room. Staff was nice and eager to help though.
Mixology is a great bar and usually gas a live band. Great views of the river
Very nice, very clean but many people talked it up and for the price we paid for the room it was underwhelming. The bath tub was nice but that was the only thing worth noting.
Professional and friendly staff. Very clean rooms and good breakfast.
We really enjoyed our stay this past weekend and especially were blown away by Sarah Murray's excellent customer service and genuine kindness! She does phenomenal at her job and went above and beyond for us!!
Very scenic view of the river from the bar and lobby area.
Friendly staff. Clean, comfortable rooms. Nice bar with decent beer selection. Hotel uses a very strong perfume/fragrance in the lobby though which can be over-powering
Great service, the room was fantastic, comfy bed, amazing view. Nothing to complain about here. It was freezing outside, but I could use the Skywalk attached to get to other places for more drinks and views.
Was a great place to stay with beyond exceptional service
I stayed at the Marriott in Grand Rapids in late May for a concert with my girlfriend (coming from Chicago). The room was decent and spacious. There was not much to do around the hotel so we stayed in for most of the time until the concert. What was disappointing was their customer service. My room came with two pre-paid breakfast vouchers. The breakfast itself was okay nothing too extraordinary considering the price ($25 each voucher). On the drive back to Chicago, my credit card was charged an extra $50. I immediately called the Marriott and questioned this charge in which the lady who answered reassured me that this unnecessary charge would be refunded within 3-5 business days. It has been over 2 months and I have called them over 5 times since that charge was never refunded. Each time they redirected me to their accounting team over the phone but no one ever answers. I have left them voicemails in which no one has gotten back to me. The stay was decent and could ve been better if they had cleared this charge as soon as I called the first time. It is ridiculous how they do not care about you after your stay and once they have their money.
Marriott, do better.
JW Marriott is on the Grand River, well constructed and with a good view. Their staff is highly professional and very friendly, and their speed and precision in changing around d furniture in the various rooms was absolutely crazy. The lobby changed from a birthday party when we got there, to a night lounge feeling next to the bar, to a sort of study lounge feel in the morning when we left. The room we had was very well kept and had a beautiful view of the city.
