Edit: The only 1-atar review is from someone that ADMITTED they didn't look at the meat before buying it, THEN returned because they didn't like the meat-fat ratio, then complained the person working wasn't willing to take back, THROW AWAY, and replace a perfectly good meat because of their own mistake. Good for you, Johnny G! Thank you for teaching someone about personal responsibility!

The best selection of the highest quality meats at the best prices! Picked up some sausages, bacon, and dog bones! Hands down the best bacon I have ever had, the jerky is INCREDIBLE, the dog is happy, staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. I also recommend the potato salad, pickles, and pickled okra. Will be back tomorrow for more meats! This is the ONLY place anyone should be going to buy meat.

First visit and was completely impressed with the service and quality of the food. Bought bacon, sausage, bratwurst, jerky and ground beef. Everything tastes great, way better than what I have found in other stores. Sampled the salsa and I ll be back to add that to my next order

I really enjoy the personal touch. Today I ventured out of the house for the first time in a month to buy something. (Been getting home deliveries.) I made arrangements to buy some meat, got the price ahead of time, and had the package delivered to me in my car. I appreciate their working with me, and I hope everyone stays safe and healthy.

Great people who work here go out of their way to do your cuts exactly how you want. Meat is always top notch quality. The chickens are soooo good.

I went in on Tuesday and was told they were full for deer processing and to come back on Thursday morning. I called Thursday morning and they said they were still full but to call back around four because they had pick ups scheduled and should have availability. When I called back at four they said they were full again but had accepted 8 new deer that day. Frustrated that I have been waiting for days to get a deer in but cant. The deer is already quartered and everything but there is "not enough room" even though they accepted 8 full carcass deer earlier in the day. Will not be trying again anytime soon.

Great beef jerky! Haven t tried the rest of the meat yet but I have a feeling I ll be returning. As soon as you walk in you are welcomed with that homey southern Austin vibe I grew up with. Keep it up Johnny

Love love love. You can't beat the in-house butchering and processing. Well worth the $! Have questions about a meat or cut, they know their stuff and give great suggestions. Highly recommend!!

Hello I was wondering do you ship to Florida i visit your shop and fell in love with your jerkey

I came here after researching prices, and reviews for butchers around Austin. As in Austinite should, I wanted to find a good local place to source my meat wanting to support local business.

I arrived at this location, and liked their setup, and their selection, but was slightly overwhelmed by the process as I had never been to a stand alone butcher shop. I proceeded to order pork belly, from which I planned to make bacon, which I informed the clerk that was helping me. He brought out the requested amount, and showed me it, regrettably I did not isnepct it more, but it looked fine.

Once I got it home however I noticed that about 80% of it was a big block of fat. Not at all I was looking for, lacking the quality striations of fat interlinked with musclear fibers. I took it back the next day, and spoke to who I think was the owner of the location, who was completely unapologetic and just told me "that's how pork bellies are, what do you want me to do about it?". Fact: I can give examples like Centeral Market, and Costco whome have very nice looking pork bellies, without brick sized portions of fat.

I hate that I have to go with larger non local retailers for my products, but the quality of the meat was so poor I had to just throw it away. I wish the owner was willing to exert just a miniscule amount of customer service in order to retain my business, as I would not be here writing this review.

High quality perfect value Tri Tip - local so amazing experience

Definitely one of the best places to take your deer to to get processed. They've been there forever and do an excellent job. They're quick and up front on the pricing and what you're getting and they can make just about anything. I always just get my deer ground because it's really cheap and they do a great job but you can get all kinds of sausages, steaks, burgers, etc. Just be prepared to pay more since they have minimums and mix in pork for some of that. They also don't mix deer which is really nice too. They are cash only for the deer so be prepared when you go pick it up. I'd definitely recommend

WOW, what a BEAUTY this place is. OLD SCHOOL place, with friendly, joking staff that makes the experience of getting meat that much better. Been looking for a butcher shop that has it all, and this place has it all! I also could put the meat in the containers to help save plastic! This place and people are pretty rad, will be coming back for sure!!!

The infamous Johnny G's sausage is just fantastic. The finely pre-cut burgers cook to perfection on the grill or the stove. My favorite meat market of all time!!!!!

Love the fresh non frozen chickens that are available on Fridays. The meat is so fresh and tender when cooked.

It has a decent amount in option and also has game meats but it has a bad smell often around game meat pick up area the price are somewhat decent for the quality of the meats

anyone who has been taking deer to a processor for any length of time knows that at most places you don't get back all of your deer meat. They make batches and put a lot of filler in with the meat if you know what I mean. I have been taking my deer to Johnny G's for years and these people are the best that I have found. They take pride in giving you your deer meat back and not mixed with another. Their venison jerky is the best I have ever had. Way better than Hudson's or Smokey Denmark. I would not take my deer to be processed anywhere else but Johnny G's.

Amazing meats... wide selection of cuts and game. The employees and butchers are more than eager to help with questions, weather that be meat or grilling oriented. Their processing skills at A1 when bringing in own hunted game. A1!

Pretty good place. Prices are good too. My only two minor complaints are that they re not open during times that fit my schedule. I work downtown so a lot of times I m not able to get there by closing time (6) on weekdays, and they re closed on Sunday when I do most of my shopping. Also, they don t carry prime grade cuts from what I recall from a discussion I had with a gentleman working there. It may just have been that certain time though. I want to go back and get a freezer pack soon!

I have been visiting Johnny G's since I moved to Manchaca. Always great cuts of meat and our favorite, the jerkey. I always mail some to my son in Colorado for his birthday in January. This year when I visited there was a foul smell in the shop but I went in and it turned out you were sold out of jerkey. I visited last week when my son was in town and the smell that poured out when I opened the front door, stopped me in my tracks. I couldn't come in because it was so bad. What is going on?

I've come here a few times, and my experiences keep getting better. Bought a deep freeze the other day, and the folks helped me order some FABULOUS cuts of meat including venison! Bulk orders and packages (which can be customized) are great, but drop in just to get some excellent ribeyes for the evening. You won't reget popping in.

I am so pleased to have found a meat market on the South side of town. Not only is product fresh and locally sourced, the service is exceptional.
