JKMM Architects: The Next Generation of Modern Finnish Design
JKMM Architects is a leading integrated design practice based in Helsinki, Finland. With a focus on architecture, interiors, furniture, graphic design and art, JKMM Architects is at the forefront of the next generation of modern Finnish design.
Founded in 1998 by architects Asmo Jaaksi, Teemu Kurkela, Samuli Miettinen and Juha Mäki-Jyllilä, JKMM Architects has quickly established itself as one of the most innovative and forward-thinking design practices in Finland. The firm's work is characterized by its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, as well as its use of cutting-edge technology and materials.
At JKMM Architects, we believe that good design should be accessible to everyone. That's why we work closely with our clients to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also functional and practical. Whether it's a private residence or a public building, our goal is always to create spaces that enhance people's lives.
One of the things that sets us apart from other design practices is our interdisciplinary approach. By combining architecture with interior design, furniture design and graphic design under one roof, we are able to offer our clients a truly holistic approach to their projects. This means that every aspect of the project – from the initial concept through to construction – is carefully considered and executed with precision.
Another key aspect of our work at JKMM Architects is our commitment to sustainability. We believe that it's important for designers to take responsibility for their impact on the environment – both during construction and throughout the life cycle of a building or product. That's why we use sustainable materials wherever possible and strive for energy efficiency in all our designs.
Our portfolio includes an impressive range of projects across various sectors including residential buildings such as apartments complexes; commercial buildings such as offices; cultural institutions such as museums; educational facilities such as schools; sports facilities such as stadiums; and public spaces such as parks.
One of our most notable projects is the Helsinki Central Library Oodi, which opened in 2018. The library has quickly become a beloved landmark in the city, attracting visitors from all over the world with its stunning architecture and innovative design. The building features a unique wooden façade that was inspired by Finnish forests, as well as a rooftop terrace that offers panoramic views of Helsinki.
Another project that we are particularly proud of is the Kaisa House at the University of Helsinki. This award-winning building houses the university's main library and has been praised for its innovative use of space and light. The building features an impressive atrium that spans six floors, creating a sense of openness and connection between different parts of the building.
At JKMM Architects, we are constantly pushing ourselves to innovate and explore new ideas. We believe that good design should be both functional and beautiful – enhancing people's lives while also respecting our planet. If you're looking for a design practice that can help you create spaces that are truly exceptional, look no further than JKMM Architects – where modern Finnish design meets sustainability and innovation.
