been eating there for years. now the new owner "jeff" that hounds you for approval while you try to enjoy your dinner with friends has driven it into the ground. raised the prices, even worse changed the mustard sauce for the stone crabs to some watery putrid muck that he swears is a top secrete recipe he found in a drawer. charges joes stone crab prices for the ambiance of a no frills fried food dump. ps check the prices before you order or your dining experience will end with a review like this one.

Update... under new ownership thank god. Went back for the first time in years. Will be going again.

The food is AWESOME! I tried the Snapper special with whine butter, a twist of lemon over fettuccine, blow my mind!!

Good service, thanks to Jean for attending us.

Great place, highly recommend!

I had many good experiences here in the past. With the new owner, things have really gone downhill. My wife ordered scallops, and they came out underdone. I mean, raw and stringy in the middle. We sent them back and they nuked them so they were like rubber. We actually left some on the plate. Worse still, I came in one day to get take out stone crabs. They were really overpriced, but I had guests from out of state. Anyway, the counter guy handed the claws to the back to crack them. When I got home, I was shorted a jumbo claw. Read other reviews - this has happened other times too. So watch the scale like a hawk and count your stuff, if you still think this place is worth checking out. I would pass.

Calamari was good, but fish dip was just OK. Service could have been better but that always depends on your waiter/waitress. The restaurant looked fantastic inside since it s remodel. Key lime pie was tasty as well.

We had grilled shrimp, blackened mahi mahi, fried conch and calamari appetizers, flan, key lime pie, and coconut cream pie. It was all delicious! Service was prompt and very courteous. Best meal I've had in years!

We enjoyed the yellowtail! It was deliciously fried crispy and moist. I had to take some crab salad with me to go. It tasted fresh. I did not like the bisque. Our server was awesome and very attentive to us.

Being a native of Key West and from a family of fishermen, I always feel more at home every time I visit Capt. Jim's. The decor is reminiscent of Key West and I know that their food and service is always top quality. And an added plus is that there is a fish market on site with carryout is available.

And is still good, with excellent service and parking along the side and back. The lobster bisque, the salmon, sweet potato fries and
Stone crab claws all good. My crab sandwich was ground, but good. I prefer it chunky.
All in all a winner.

When dining in or waiting for take-out, the MUSSELS are a MUST HAVE. Obtain, consume, enjoy!
Look what I found during this Tropical Storm (hey it's just rain), the Captain is OPEN for business. Nice!

Poor service . I waited 30 minutes to get my drink. The servant was really rude she pushed us to stay in a place we didn't like ... Because of the high rate i drove 40 minutes.. It is not good decision to eat here unless you are invited by someone..

A wonderful place to eat to get fresh local seafood. Everyone working there friendly and knowledgeable. And the restaurant was impeccably clean. The food was some of the best I had in, Florida.

Delicious seafood! Had the shrimp and grits and it did not disappoint. Rich and creamy with bacon bits. This place does lack presentation and a kids menu so I give 4 stars. I don't come to restaurants just for the food but for the ambience as well. My friend who brought her toddler ordered the fried fish which are fish fingers and fries for her to share with her toddler, and they were both pleasedw taste and freshness of fish. We shared the fried calamari and it was crispy and delicious. I'd definitely come here again.

Food was outstanding! The frying oil was super clean. The dessert was amazing! The place was spotless and service was fabulous even though it was close to closing time. The only reason I didn't give it a higher rating was that there was an unpleasant, slightly rancid smell in the restaurant that could have been coming from the outside.

Me and my Family went here for Father's Day. My Dad suggested this place, but because of the times I've been here, I didn't really like the Food at first.
But when me and my Family got in here, it felt like an Experience. The Lobster Bisque was amazing, I ate it all and the bowl was clean. The Shrimp and Grits were one of the Best I've ever tasted. And don't even get me started on the Lobster Mac and Cheese Balls with the Bechamel (It was a Special at the time).

Highly Recommend it!

A little disappointment on some of the dishes we had. The shrimp and corn chowder was a broth with some little bits of shrimp and corn. The rest of our meal was plentiful but thought the cost was on the high side.

The place was empty when we got there. The waitress was trying to be friendly but we had to ask for things like extra plates for appetizers. Then they give you can drinks with no free refills. Really? This is 2018 the least thing you could do is have free drinks on soda with $16+ an entree. Will not be returning. My $163 can go somewhere else. Thanks!

Definitely recommend this place for good and fresh seafood!!!! Me and my family drove from Maryland and this was a the first place we looked up because we wanted to get some fresh seafood, the staff was so friendly and kind enough to stay open for us later than their regular hours, we got there about 25 minutes prior to them closing. The food was amazing and so fresh, the chef and remainder of the staff was so welcoming and kind, they made us feel so welcomed after such a long drive.

Complimentary bottomless mimosas will easily convince you to make your way to Captain Jim's Sunday brunch, but you'll quickly realize that the food is really what you're here for.

The brunch entrees have enormous portions, so make sure your company orders a different option so you can at least try two.

Their lobster roll is no sissy lobster roll. It has massive chunks of real lobster seasoned with chives, lemon & tarragon and topped with avocado. The bread is sweet and toasted perfectly. The sweet potato fries are equally as massive & delicious. This treasure isn't printed on their menu, so make sure to ask for it.

CJ's crab cake eggs Benedict is just layers and layers of magic. It's a tomato empanizado, topped with a crab cake, topped with sliced avocado, topped with a poached egg, that's all topped with buttery Hollandaise. Can't go wrong here.

Their fish dip is smooth and smoky. Magno hooked it up with some conch salad and what a great surprise. It was so refreshing. I've really only ever had fried conch so I wasn't sure what to expect. Thanks Magno!

I've also had dinner and loved the lobster fried Mac & cheese and Corvina Francais. Looking forward to my next visit!

Very, very fresh fish. We enjoyed one of the days menu board catch, Swordfish, which was grilled with Rosemary. The sides of mashed potatoes & steamed vegetables has great flavor.

The New England Clam Chowder was superb.

A must

I went there on Saturday with my girlfriend for lunch and regret that I chose to go there. Before renovation I used to go there all the time for the grilled fish and loved it. After the renovation the food no longer tastes the same. The fish had no seasoning and the Shrimp and Grits was horrible. It tasted like they put dish liquid in there. I wasted $80 going there and I'm like extremely upset about it. They need to find new Chefs or something. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN.

Everything is fresh and made in house. They make their own Caesar dressing, potato chips, and the fish is from their own boats in Key Largo. Captain Jim Hanson is also a seafood distributer, but saves some for his own restaurant. It's fresh seafood prices, so about $20 a meal, but it's a comfortable atmosphere and it doesn't feel like too much for the quality.

The food was fresh and delicious. We shared the cracked conch and seafood puttanesca for lunch. The food is great, the atmosphere is so so. It's very neat and clean but not very interesting or luxurious.

This place is great. Fair warning, it is a little pricey and I did see one of the guys drop his pen in the raw fish cooler, but that's minor because you should wash the fish before you cook it anyways.

The food- Everything on the menu is creative and delicious and FRESH.
The Customer service- Everyone is fun and nice and playful and they have never gotten my order wrong
This is the best seafood place you're probably going to find in north Miami. And THEY DELIVER

Very clean, updated restaurant. The atmosphere was nautical with a little bit of a Rasta vibe. Staff was friendly albeit a little unprepared when I walked in exactly when they opened at 11:30. The food was crab salad was delicious and the conch fritters were well seasoned and cooked with a little crunch on the outside and a soft, chewy texture inside. However, I was searching inside for the conch. The mahi-mahi on the sandwich was good, however the filet was so thin that I couldn t taste it when I bit into the whole thing. The bread and veggies completely overwhelmed the fish. I would have happily sacrificed length on the filet for more thickness.

Captain Jim's was amazing! The food was some of the best I've ever had and you have to finish off your meal with the key lime pie (it was better than what I've had in Key West)! Everyone is incredibly friendly and our waitress Juliet was so sweet and helpful! She made us feel right at home! We will definitely be coming back during our next trip to Miami.
