We found this by looking for brunch options in Charlottesville. We visited on a Saturday (the day the UVa basketball team ceremonies occurred) so it was busy, but we expected that. We had a 20 minute wait. This restaurant/bakery is small but we didn't feel we were on top of other guests or crowded. We initially were going to order from the bakery to go but decided to sit and eat. I am glad we did so we could try more lunch style options. My husband had the croque madame and I had the local salad with buttermilk dressing (I loved this!). Ee shared the bakery basket, too. Next time we may just grab a baguette and pastries to go but we enjoyed the food. The place is pricey, though, but it is traditionally French with local flair so we will return.

Yummy

Got the stuffed french toast and the sausage links on the side. It was amazing. The smoked smell and taste on the sausage was heavenly. Carly was top notch, and delivered some tableside humor to boot. Highly recommended location for breakfast.

Great place for bakery and brunch. But the place was over crowded and sometimes the serve is slow when there are too many people. Parking place is hard to find since you can only park by the street. However the bakery and food is great. Quality coffee and juice provided.

This is a very popular French cafe. We have been here several times and the food is excellent, the pastries are excellent and the service is quite good. There's a good variety of foods for breakfast and several varieties of coffee and other soft drinks.
The restaurant area is clean and neat.
There are no reservations here and it can be very crowded when UVA is in session and on almost any weekend.

Very nice pasties, food, and coffee. A high quality food standard that others should emulate. The only down side is that it is often very crowded. However, they do all they can to move you through the pastry line quickly and there are also seats outside.

Fyi- They are packed on Sunday at 8am, so expect a wait. Ordered to go, but it took 30 min to get sandwiches.

MarieBette is my go to place for coffee and/or brunch. I love the croque madame and the cappuccino is the perfect ending to a meal. The customer service is top-notch. I highly recommend a visit whether you're a local or a tourist!

The food is great, but not worth the wait if you re visiting charlottesville. There are so many other great places to grab breakfast, go somewhere else! Hopefully they figure out another system to lean out their process

This place is a really good spot to get breakfast and eat some delicious pastries. I had the Atlantic and my boyfriend got the quiche and both were absolutely delightful. The Atlantic was basically caramelized onion, salmon, and two eggs baked on top with a lovely spring of dill to tie it all together. It was served with two slices of bread and both me and my boyfriend absolutely loved it! My boyfriends quiche was also equally delicious. It was very warm and the eggs were light and fluffy. It was served with a salad. Overall, the meals were just splendid. Afterwards, we got three pastries all of which I ve forgotten the names of, but basically it was an apple pastry, an almond croissant, and a bell-shaped custard pastry. All of them were Delicious and I think my boyfriend and I would certainly come back if not for the breakfast then definitely for the pastries.

The waiters and waitresses were also very kind and worked hard. MarieBette gets incredibly busy so I know they have to work hard. Regardless, good food and good service.

If you are looking for wonderful French bakery or a place to sit down and enjoy breakfast in a quaint setting, this is the place. It is always busy, always delicious, and always delightful. The menu has options for every preference, the service is friendly, the atmosphere is hometown-cafe, and the menu is diverse. In a word - go.

NOV 13 Afternoon. The guy at the bar served 7 people before actually preparing my beverage, which wasn t really regular quality. I arrived before all of them and my order was comparable. He was also rude.

One if my favorite breakfast places anywhere! Their food is fresh, consistent, delicious, and very reasonably priced. The coffee and pastries are also EXCELLENT! Anytime friends and family come from out of town I always bring them here. I'm always looking for an excuse to go! You will not be disappointed!

Wonderful bakery. Got here right at opening on a Sunday and glad we did, as it fills up fast. Delicious baked goods. Loved the pastry basket. Frittata was fair. Great espresso drinks. Stocked up on several baked items to go--all wonderful. Kid friendly.

Thought I would check out this new (to me) bakery/cafe. Bought a couple of pastries that were out. of. this. world! There was a lovely selection of breads, baguettes to buy, and they also serve lunch. I couldn't stay, but plan to go back soon.

Wow... Amazing and authentic French pastry. I think the only way to understand the difference is to visit this place and taste their pastry. It's not like anything else I've experienced. It's expensive, but worth it!

Go to brunch and pastries in C'ville.

Go to brunch and pastries in C'ville.

You can guarantee yourself a great brunch with exceptional service when you come here. The brunch is in the mid-price range for brunch in general. To some it's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.

All coffee orders come with a cannelle, yum. The food always tastes fresh, and their eggs are always done perfectly.

If you are on the go, their pastries are wonderful for that cheat meal breakfast, or to take to a morning meeting.

A good place all together.

Get there early on the weekend for brunch, if not expect to wait a bit.

The quality of the ingredients is evident and quality the kitchen staff is superb. The front of the house staff were friendly and efficient. The food was uniformly delicious and the baked products most delectable. Anyone visiting Charlottesville should treat themselves to a stop and not hold back on trying multiple delights!

I have family in Charlottesville and every time I visit I make sure they take me here for breakfast pastries. There's usually a line but boy is it worth the wait - the almond croissants are heaven!

Their "financier" pastry is their one gluten free pastry, and it is exceptional. They do have a flourless chocolate cake which is gluten free also but i haven't had it. This is where i get pastries when I'm going to visit someone or bring a loaf of their olive bread which everyone adores. This is a special place and the people who own it are lovely. The staff here are all personable and kind. Today for the first time i got a latte and it was perfect (for shots in a large ..yum! )

Really didn t enjoy my experience here. For starters, they seemed more worried about the business than the customer. From the moment I came into the restaurant they let me know everything they couldn t do and nothing about what they could offer. They let me know that the restaurant has a three person limit, they asked if I decided what I wanted, and they let me know that they couldn t take my trash because they couldn t legally take it. Please note I didn t ask for any of this but this was their introduction to me. Plus, it was weird how they used the word legally when I didn t even hint on handing my stuff over to them. It took forever to get the sandwich and coffee I ordered. And the boy who was delivering the food just kept looking at me with no update before going back inside. The food was ok but not worth the hassle. Overall I felt like they were rude, distant, and they made me feel a little too uncomfortable to actually make me want to go back.
