The history of Jamalpur Workshop dates back to 1862 when it was established as a small repair shop for steam locomotives by East Indian Railways. Over time, it grew into one of the largest workshops in Asia with state-of-the-art facilities for manufacturing and repairing locomotives, coaches and wagons.

Today, Jamalpur Workshop is known for its expertise in manufacturing diesel-electric locomotives that are used across India's vast rail network. The workshop also manufactures various types of coaches such as AC Chair Car Coaches (ACC), Second Class Sleeper Coaches (SLR), General Second Class Coaches (GS) etc., which are used by millions of passengers every day.
