Attended this theater in Pleasantville Ny, to view " Moonlight" - The establishment is made up of about 4 theaters . They specialize in foreign & independent films, which is great if you want to view and support independent and upcoming film makers. Great experience, staff were helpful and friendly. Theater was antiquated but i loved it nonetheless!

Not everyday that you get to meet the director of your favorite movie! RIP Jonathan Demme. Such a great location that truly knows how to put on some great events and screenings. Always loved coming here for both new and older film screenings. #jacobburnsfilmcenter #pleasantville #filmfestival

I've always loved this theater. Growing up in Westchester, my family would go to the Rome Theater in Pleasantville in the same location where Jacob Burns now sits, so there is also a bit of nostalgia for me in coming here. But the real reason is the fantastic movies and the comfort and cleanliness of the theater. Why just 4-stars? Three issues: 1) the parking. A nightmare. Unless I go on Sundays when I can almost always find a spot in the train station lot, the newly fixed time for meter parking that doesn't allow enough time for the show, or the municipal lot that is usually full have left me returning home after driving there because there is no parking; 2) seniors do not get discounts on weekends. Ummmm...I'm a "senior" but I still work, so weekends are it for me. I'm still a senior on the weekend!!; 3) because I love it here so much, friends always buy me gift certificates. But you CANNOT buy advance tix with a gift card. WHY?? So I am constantly shut out of movies that have sold out even arriving as much as 40 minutes in advance. This is frustrating.

A fun place to watch arty films with like-minded cinema buffs (if you consider yourself one). The building is beautifully designed and the theaters are plush, comfortable, modern and clean. Excellent selection/curation of films (both old and new) and friendly staff. Slightly pricey but worth it to support this unique nonprofit theater.

It's not just a movie theatre. It's a local film community. Great selection of indie films and special events, like movies about music, that include concerts and talks. I added a pic of a reception after one of these.

Pricy unless you have a membership. First run Independent and foreign films. Comfortable seats although the cup holders are too wide for a bottle of water. Attentive staff and great popcorn. I prefer to go on Sundays when you don't have to feed the meters.

Always showing different movies with high acclaim that you can't see at other theaters. Always a good time, clean comfy theater and feels like you're treating yourself to a cultural experience when you go to Jbfc

One can't say enough good things about this place. its choice of movies is just amazing. The only down side is trying to get in some of its presentation. Can at times be sold out. But what else can you expect when the place is soooo good. Just buy your ticket in advance and come early for a good seat...

As a frequent patron of your theater, I am extremely disappointed that you are not showing the film The Promise. You always seem to bring other holocaust/genocide movies as part of an educational experience to your loyal audience but yet this time it seems there is no effort being made to show one of the most horrific events in the history of not only the Armenian people but of mankind.
I hope that you will reconsider this decision.

Excellent theaters with good choice of movie. Friendly staff. Very conveniently located with lot of good places to dine around the theater. Street parking is sometimes difficult to find and so give yourself some additional time.

very nice place to be with your friends and family to watch movies. Comfortable seats and goof and helpful staff and manageable parking lots. I have a membership of this film center so i visit this place , once in every 15 days.
If you plan to visit this place , get your tickets reserved before 2-3 days otherwise you are not going to get any tickets since it is almost house full.

Love "the Burns" as it is affectionately called. However, very upset that the Richard Gere film, Meet the Patels and Breathe were only there for a week. Can they be brought back for slightly longer runs????

I don't go to Jacob Burns any more. I've driven there 3 times from Yorktown only to be told that the movie I came to see was sold out. Why don't they provide a phone number to call so you don't waste your time and gas? If you mention this to their employees they stare at you as if you're insane.

About Jacob Burns Film Center

Jacob Burns Film Center: A Hub for Film Enthusiasts

Are you a movie buff looking for a place to indulge in your passion? Look no further than the Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC), located in Pleasantville, New York. This non-profit cultural arts center is dedicated to promoting film as an art form and providing educational opportunities for filmmakers of all ages.

The JBFC was founded in 2001 by Stephen Apkon and Janet Maslin, with the goal of creating a community space where people could come together to watch, learn about, and discuss film. Since then, it has become one of the premier destinations for cinephiles in the tri-state area.

One of the main draws of the JBFC is its diverse programming. The center screens everything from classic Hollywood films to independent features to foreign cinema. They also host special events throughout the year, such as Q&A sessions with filmmakers and actors, film festivals celebrating specific genres or themes, and screenings accompanied by live music or other performances.

In addition to its screening rooms, the JBFC also houses a state-of-the-art media lab where aspiring filmmakers can take courses on everything from screenwriting to cinematography. These classes are taught by industry professionals who are passionate about sharing their knowledge with others.

But what really sets the JBFC apart is its commitment to community outreach. The center partners with local schools and organizations to provide free screenings and workshops for underserved populations. They also offer programs specifically designed for children and teenagers who are interested in learning more about filmmaking.

If you're looking for a way to get involved with this vibrant film community beyond just attending screenings or taking classes, consider becoming a member of the JBFC. Members receive discounts on tickets and classes as well as invitations to exclusive events like members-only screenings.

Overall, if you're passionate about film – whether you're an avid fan or an aspiring filmmaker – there's no better place than Jacob Burns Film Center #AtTheJBFC!
