We ate there last night in the dining room and had white fish rather than salmon. It was a large piece, draped over rice and with green beans on the side. All excellently prepared. Split a Caesar salad which was ideal since it was large. Seated along the window, so the view was great looking down the lake to the Space Needle.

Ivar's serves one of the best cups of clam chowder in Seattle. This location has a walk-up counter as well as a indoor restaurant. It's convenient to drop by Ivar's while biking to Gas Work's Park due to its proximity to the Burke-Gilman Trail. However, parking is limited. Service is fast and be sure to read the signs to understand how to place seafood orders.

The best clam chowder ever, better than Eastern Seaboard. Fantastic seafood, dining inside or al fresco. Great view of harbor, space Needle in distance and in house nod to first nation art.

Cool decor and good happy hour prices. Nice view by the water but might be difficult to actually get the tables with a view. The creamy clam chowder is a definite must try. We came around dinner time on a weekday and it seemed like the waiters were extremely busy and a bit distracted.

The decor and the view are absolutely the Best! The customer service was exemplary. They have a decent wine and beer selection. The halibut was a little disappointing but everything else makes this restaurant totally worth it. I'll definitely return.

Beautiful sitting outside on the deck watching people on kayaks, paddle boards and listening to the waves. We enjoyed the delish manila steamer clams, sourdough bread with whipped butter, crab and shrimp Louie salad. Outstanding service and the food made our taste buds dance!! Check it out ......

It's been a few years since my last visit. I had several pleasant experiences at Ivar's before so I was excited to bring family from out of town for what I thought would be fancier dining with a nice view. The view was great as expected, everything else seems to have gone down hill dramatically apart from the prices.

For the price of the items we ordered, I expected the food to be of decent quality and good flavor. Four out of the five items that we received were flat out disappointing and not tasty. The Taste of the Northwest was dried out, and all the fish tasted the same; as does grilled food does. The brussel sprouts were cooked poorly as well, but that might just be personal preference.

I myself ordered the "Ivar's World Famous Fish"n"Chips" as I had this before a few times and enjoyed it always. This time I was utterly disappointed. The breading on the cod was worse than that of what I would expect from the freezer section in a grocery store. Soggy and dry, not crispy at all. The coleslaw on top of that was fairly bland as well.

Another member of the parts ordered a half pound of King Crab Legs. For $40 I was expecting to see a fantastic dish. Instead what was presented was a pile of legs thrown onto a plate. What was worse was that the legs were soft and squishy as if they were way over-cooked. Cracking the shell was nearly impossible. Yet another disappointment.

To top it off our server was fairly pushy and did not leave us with a pleasant or friendly experience whenever he spoke to us.

The one thing that we enjoyed were the appetizers which were fairly tasty and fresh.

After coming here several times over the years I will no longer return. It seems as if this restaurant has turned into a tourist trap interested in getting you in and out of the place as quickly as possible.

Dinner for 5 came out to $236 before tip. Severely overpriced for the quality of food and service that we received.

Affordable food with a classy atmosphere. Not overly stuffy or too formal. Right on the water for a nice view. But thing is the 3pm- closing EVERYDAY happy hour!!! And it's a solid happy hour with $1 off beers ($5.50) and $2 off wines and cocktails. Serving for happy hour food is large ( we had clams, mussels and calamari). Server was friendly and attentive.

The fish counter in front is the best part of this place. You can carry your excellent food down to the seating area next to the ship canal, eat at a table in front, or, if the weather is awful, eat inside. The sit-down restaurant at the same location is unfortunately less good value.

This was a tough on to review. It s really a 3.5. The ambiance is AMAZING!!! 5+! But it s called The Salmon House and the salmon was over cooked and the crab cakes were just so-so. And it s not cheap! That was nearly a $40 salmon and we expected better.

The fish and chips and clam chowder was good. Drinks were good. It s definitely not terrible, just not a great value. It s worth going once to see the inside!

View is nice. Service is good. I just feel like if my check is going to be this much I want something a little more notable. It's a splurge for me and I get seafood is expensive but it's not much more pp to go to Canon or Westward or Pair. That being said there is a much cheaper happy hour at this place which is great. I love leaving work early in summer and sitting on the patio in the sun here eating salmon and drinking at a reasonable price!

I was talked into going here by a colleague while on a business trip. Since I don't eat seafood I'm not the best judge of their food, but I liked the atmosphere and the staff was helpful and pleasant. My colleague enjoyed his seafood dishes. My choices were very limited, but I found my chicken dish very good. If I'm staying in the University District and folks ask for a seafood house suggestion, I'll definitely mention Ivar's.

I was very unimpressed with this place. The smoked salmon chowder didn't even taste like it had salmon in it. I also ordered a chicken dish and the chicken was very dry/over cooked. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone based on the food. The only thing that I enjoyed was that it is located on the water.

Date night with the bf; we got a table in the back regardless of several open tables in the front, probably reservations or just seating rotation. I still think it was just fine. Waitress was very nice, and prompt. Food was excellent with the exception of the steak. Man, I felt so bad. I have never sent something back before, but it was medium well/ rather than the ideal medium rare. I know we would have been fine with it anyways, however there was a definite char taste, almost chemically. We were left with a giant crab leg on a small plate, to be returned with the rest of the sides to be eaten alone without the steak my bf always seems to want when we go out. Second steak comes out much larger, still cooked medium and the waitress has arranged for the literal steak entree to be served, clearly trying to go above and beyond. There was no Demi!! The menu stated some kind of sauce with was on both the original dish and the replacement entree. Pretty sad. I'm pretty sure my bf still ate everything despite it being severely underwhelming. I'll add that the steaks did not appear to be seasoned.
Anyways, everything else was wonderful. The poor waitress I believe tried to do everything she could, we were happy to be out to dinner catching a day off together. We also didn't expect to be given any sort of discount, but the waitress must have sensed some of my disappointment when we had to send the dish back. She took off nearly the entire meal, which I know almost always needs a manager approval, which I also know is a pain in the butt.
Lesson learned, don't order steak at a seafood place. Duh, I guess right? It didn't occur to me at the moment. I just wanted calamari which was great! The staff and young lady that served us were also great. We are still sorry for any trouble we caused you during your shift. Thank you for trying your best. We would like to come back for more of everything else which was just really great. How that girl handled the situation, we couldn't have asked for more, and would still recogmend anyone to dine here.

Had a great time here on Saturday evening! The mussels were fantastic, the salmon burger was also to die for, and the coconut prawns were delicious. Great service (our server's name was Kiki I believe). The restaurant had an altogether great atmosphere and was a perfect way to end a day of boating.

Been wanting to try this location since I noticed it one day while driving across the bridge above. Ivar's seafood restaurants are all awesome but this location is uniquely designed like some sort of Native American lodge or something and has wonderful views of Lake Union and the Space Needle. Food was amazing as usual for Ivar's. Best to make reservations as it seems to get quite busy.

Our family has been coming to Ivars for nearly 60 years and the Salmon House is wonderful, great people, service and food. We visited recently for lunch & had a great time, the view was awesome as big changes were happening, we also ran into Dale Chihuly, nice surprise & a treat to see him after so many years. Oh almost forgot to mention the incredible blueberry/peach cobbler, all we can say is WOW! ;{)

We always come to this place by boat. They have a nifty dock on the water for you to quickly hop out for a snack or dinner. You can either get a quick fish & chips or chowder at the window, or you can go inside for a seated meal. Great seafood! Highly recommended! Stay Clam!

We wanted to find a place to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary with as close to the same view that we had when we exchanged our vows (we were married on a ship on Lake Union) and decided after looking at the menu and website, on Ivar's Salmon House. A very wise decision! Upon arrival, we were seated immediately...and our table was perfect! Right on the window, with the view we hoped for. The food was wonderful, and the service was exemplary. Our waiter, Eric, was very knowledgeable and helpful, and volunteered to take our picture, leading us outside to the perfect spot for some pictures we will treasure always. This is now more than a restaurant for us; it is a fond memory and place that we will revisit time and again!

Clam chowder was good. Both salmon dishes were dry & overcooked. Mine was bacon wrapped with bbq sauce...something I'd expect from a Chilis or Applebees, not from a seaside restaurant with Salmon in its name. I've had some great salmon that was a lot cheaper than this place & didn't specialize in salmon. Mash potatoes tasted old & kept warm for a long time.

Classic Seattle restaurant on lovely North Lake Union. Views of the water, Seattle skyline, dine inside or outside. Sit down seafood inside or on the water, or just bark out your order on the street side and get some chowder and fish and chips. One of our favorite seafood places in Seattle. You can also arrive by boat and tie to their dock for an extra special experience!

We really enjoyed the atmosphere, Northwestern native art, wood interior and large windows. We had a view of the space needle across Lake Union. The seafood was fresh and well prepared. Service was outstanding.

I always make a point to come here every time I'm in town. Ivar's should be a must for anyone visiting Seattle for the first time or the hundredth time. The salmon and chips is a specialty that is absolutely amazing. Truly an authentic Seattle spot.

Good place for Lunch on Sunny Day, place order at Fish Bar and carry your food Trays past Totem Poles down Ramp to outdoor Dining Area.

Watch boat traffic pass while you enjoy lunch.

On rainy Cloudy Mornings, around 11AM dine indoors at Salmon House and if you are lucky, as low clouds lift over Lake Union, you may see Kenmore Air Planes taxi from south end to north end of Lake Union, turn and fly up into the air as you are enjoying clam chowder and lunch.

Recently, we saw 7 planes flying away.

This is my new favorite restaurant. Salmon chowder soup was the best thing on the menu. Everything I had was cooked to perfection. Highly recommended! Side note: tipping is not expected as it is included in the cost.

Food was much better than I expected, given that I had been to other Ivars. The salmon house is another tier up IMO. But the best part is the view of the lake. Hard to beat this location for a nice meal out. Parking across the street is not ideal, but totally fine to walk across the street. If the sun is out, this place is high in my list of places to eat. I will return.

Big group had a buffet setup. Everything was fine except the salmon was terrible. Poor quality meat, or perhaps it had been cooked too long or boiled. I had a salmon steak in Portland 3 weeks ago which was one of the best I've ever had, so this just made me sad to even put the meat in my mouth. Maybe Ivar does a better job with individually choked steaks, but the pile of steaks in our buffet soiled their good name in my mind.

The scenery is very good, and you can see the entire lake from the seat. The choice of meals is mostly fish-based, and there are a variety of salmon options and cod options. The sauce of fish dishes is quite special, not the ordinary taste, people who don't like it may find it unpalatable. The service staff has a good attitude and are happy to answer your questions and take the initiative to help.
