It's been a few years since my last visit. I had several pleasant experiences at Ivar's before so I was excited to bring family from out of town for what I thought would be fancier dining with a nice view. The view was great as expected, everything else seems to have gone down hill dramatically apart from the prices.
For the price of the items we ordered, I expected the food to be of decent quality and good flavor. Four out of the five items that we received were flat out disappointing and not tasty. The Taste of the Northwest was dried out, and all the fish tasted the same; as does grilled food does. The brussel sprouts were cooked poorly as well, but that might just be personal preference.
I myself ordered the "Ivar's World Famous Fish"n"Chips" as I had this before a few times and enjoyed it always. This time I was utterly disappointed. The breading on the cod was worse than that of what I would expect from the freezer section in a grocery store. Soggy and dry, not crispy at all. The coleslaw on top of that was fairly bland as well.
Another member of the parts ordered a half pound of King Crab Legs. For $40 I was expecting to see a fantastic dish. Instead what was presented was a pile of legs thrown onto a plate. What was worse was that the legs were soft and squishy as if they were way over-cooked. Cracking the shell was nearly impossible. Yet another disappointment.
To top it off our server was fairly pushy and did not leave us with a pleasant or friendly experience whenever he spoke to us.
The one thing that we enjoyed were the appetizers which were fairly tasty and fresh.
After coming here several times over the years I will no longer return. It seems as if this restaurant has turned into a tourist trap interested in getting you in and out of the place as quickly as possible.
Dinner for 5 came out to $236 before tip. Severely overpriced for the quality of food and service that we received.
