Membership & Event Sales Associate - Information Security Media Group (ISMG)
I've been here for a few months now and it's been a good experience over all. There's a lot to learn if you don't have any experience in the cybersecurity world (trust me, I didn't), but it is a very interesting field and there are ample materials for you to learn from when you get here. That said, the concern over cybersecurity is something that is only growing in every industry and this is the perfect place to be if that is of interest to you.
As a sales person, the pay is good and the opportunity to make commission is pretty much uncapped. If you are motivated and looking to put your skills to use, then I would say this is the perfect place to do so at.

I am a regular reader of their news, and over time I have noticed that the quality of news has degraded to a level of unbalanced propaganda and fake news. For example Jeremy Kirk purports to know about the field of Information Security but truly it seems he does not. He reported "Data Integrity in the Era of Fake News", yet ironically, he himself is reporting on speculation and fake news. The Information Security Media Group (ISMG) has become an untrusting source for news, it is almost like reading fiction. For example, on the ISMG the article is credited to have been written by Jeremy Kirk, yet, in that same article, it relies on a report written by Jeremy Kirk on cyber security regulations.
That 'report' is not even factual. It is speculation. It opens with, "The regulation, believed to be the first of its kind adopted by a U.S. state, highlights continuing frustration over data breaches and concern about whether private industry is moving fast enough to erect defenses against hacking". He then goes on to validate his sources.
"After input from private industry, the state eased off some of its more prescriptive proposals", who is this private industry? Sorry Mr. Kirk, if you are reporting on fake news, you should have the evidence to back up your hypothesis and sources. Finally, the most ironic part of it all is that Mr. Kirk has absolutely no industry experience in Cyber security practice or procedure, yet readers entrust his views as 'credible'.
According to his website he states, "I'm a veteran journalist who has covered general assignment news for a newspaper in Illinois, military affairs in Seoul and information technology in London and Sydney".
Talk about "Fake News", I'm a converted reader going elsewhere.
Speculation and no facts, reading about "fraudsters to reap upwards of $1.3 million in daily ad spending, Danish advertising technology company Adform warns".
It seems ironic that the publication talks about the "the online advertising industry" when they themselves are a branch of such industry, yet make statements that are speculative - we want facts. I worked for (a major competitor) but that is not my drive. I am openly stating the sheer explicit misunderstanding of journalism Mr. Kirk has when reporting facts on our industry.
"The online advertising industry has long waged a campaign against such fraud. But fraudsters continue to deploy a variety of tricks to try and inflate illicit advertising revenue by making it appear that legitimate people are clicking or viewing legitimate ads". I actually agree, but where is the proof?
It is all about what people say, not what facts are drawn. "Adform says fraudsters have infiltrated at least 14 marketplaces and platforms where online advertisements are sold".
The closest Jeremy gets to proof is statements like "appear to have been constructed", then in the same breath "URLs will appear to be high-quality locations for placing their ads".
Once the ad placement has been purchased, HyphBot's network of hacked computers visits the site where it has been placed. But it's actually a different URL than was offered on the marketplace. Behind the scenes, the malware that has infected the computer pushes the browser to a completely different domain.
Then any facts come from heresay. "HyphBot is spoofing about 34,000 domains, including some belonging to premium publishers, Adform says".
I'm sorry, that's really turned me off this publication. In my opinion, terrible journalism.
