I love Scotland but I loathe this airport. Customs was a nightmare, the foot traffic layout is awful, and they are understaffed in some key areas (overstaffed in others). There should also be a moving walkway to the rental car area.

Entrance to multi storey not that well signposted and then entrance is very narrow. Found space and parked and when went to empty luggage from boot of car found ground to be muddy and oily so not impressed at all.

A very dated International Airport with limited modern technology. Passport control had no e-services available and there was only two booths open which was insufficient for the number of people in the queue.
Passport controller was pleasant.
Luggage area very tight and congested and luggage took quite a while to come through, longer than most airports.
We had no other choice but to use this airport.
We were just very surprised that the Capital city of Scotland had such a dated airport.

Lovely airport, clean. Loads of food places and toilets.

Easy and cheap way to get from London to Edinburgh

And then an hour drive to Dundee.

Never really any issues.

But had an immigration officer wanting to share his migraine with me and my wife.

Over our liquids

But he let us off after the queue started to pile up behind us

OK as far as airports go, nothing really appealing to write about. As you would expect, all outlets charge airport prices which makes it expensive. Otherwise all else is pretty much bog standard.

Having flown in and out of here more times in the last six months than I have in my whole life (and that's a lot), I have found that the airport is definitely improving and upgrading. The new security area is much more efficient and gets you through quicker (with no consequence to security, I'm sure). The only thing I would say is that you have to walk through the old security area to get to departures. Maybe this will change. An array of restaurants, pubs and shops to choose from. The first class lounges are also quite something.

Quick Check in, Car parks, Bus Stops and shuttles to ff side parking are all right outside the terminal.
Security was quick and painless. shopping was OK plenty of seating. be aware if you fly on Ryanair you will be stood in what con best be described as a smoking shelter (about 200 m long) for half a hour before boarding your flight - this was not so good in January!!!!
Returning the bag reclaim immigration and customs service was quick and hassle free. with the car park and local pus stops well signposted.

Official car park expensive. Long walk from drop off point for car park shuttle bus to terminal.

Barcode scanners for boarding passes only work if you print with a fresh cartridge in photo quality on the latest laser printer, else you'll be sent back to the check-in desk.

Procedure on arrival is the grand bus tour of the runways: arrive near gate 20, get bussed around ALL of the tarmac to arrive at opposite end of terminal and walk back inside half way the length of terminal to passport desks.

Only good points: queues at security not that long, Wetherspoons after security serves decent beer.

Friendly staff. I like that there s basically an entire drugstore. But other than that the dining/shopping options are fairly limited. Also there s a frustrating lack of signage and no directories. It s maddening.

Currently having an absolute nightmare coming through international arrivals. Due to the fact that 3 planes turned up in succession (which I expect for an international airport) and having only 4 Border Patrol staff led to the result in many non-EU and EU alike passengers standing in horrendous queues resembling cattle. Very disappointed with Edinburgh Airport...think of the welcome you are sending visitors to this country.

Disappointed that you now have to pay parking charges to drop off or collect at Edinburgh airport. Our plane was late and our son was driving in from Glasgow, our carry on luggage was put in the hold, so we didn't get out of the airport at More

Travelled through Edinburgh airport numerous times, but had to review this experience as it was definitely 5 star treatment. Travelling with sever sciatica and a broken foot with one crutch I had my hand luggage organised to manage carrying myself. Going through security the staff were great. Carrying the trays and bags for me, making sure I got my crutch back. Although I would have managed and struggled along myself, it was nice how they were instantly using their initiative to help passengers out. Then hobbling to gate 21 I just missed my flight. After a few tears explaining I was heading to my younger cousins funeral, the gentleman went out of his way to book me on the next flight for free. More tears appeared due to the kindness and sympathy. Finally went and sat in disabled lounge as they had soft seats for my sciatica, the lady in there was great, really friendly. After explaining what happened when handing over my tickets, she then went to check what the next gate might be and stated she d let me know when it was open and offered to wheel me there in a wheelchair. Could not compliment the staff in the airport more. However, it would have been cheaper to pay for a new flight, than buy some snacks in WHSmiths!

Stepping out of the comfortable tram straight into a wet and slippery platform. No roofing to protect from the rain.
No directions where to check-in. So we ended up with our bags in the securityline. Our mistake?
One display with information about departures. This display is in the walking route of passengers. So a lot of obstruction there. No chairs from where you can watch the display.
Edinburgh airport can use some logistics knowledge. It is not a international airport!

Fortunately - courtesy of Ryanair not being able t...

Fortunately - courtesy of Ryanair not being able to give sufficient notice about their strikes - I took a train TO Edinburgh, so I was not left with a dissatisfied feeling throughout my long weekend in Scotland. Sadly, I DID use the airport to leave Edinburgh, and it was enough to ruin the enjoyment of the weekend's trip to the Festival and Tattoo.

Airports KNOW how many people are going to be using them, because people have to BOOK their flights in advance - you don't just turn up unexpectedly. Why, then, do they not provide sufficient staff to cope with the number of people who will need to go through baggage drop and security. They even blocked off the escalators from the check-in area to get to the security checking level, so you were forced to use the stairs or the lifts - and encountered a massive wall of people as soon as you got upstairs. 21 minutes it suggested was the time to get through security - double that was a more accurate estimate. The electronic satisfaction survey on exiting the security area was showing that THREE QUARTERS of respondents were unhappy.

Then we had to wait until some time past the predicted time for our gate to be advertised, and when it finally was, everyone piled along to Gate 3 ... where there was already a full plane load of other people who were waiting for their plane to be boarded, so there was no room, no available seating, a mixture of stoic Brits and less forgiving foreigners, and absolutely NO information as to what was going on. The Tannoy system appeared to be working, as we were subjected to countless final calls for other flights, and adverts for how great Edinburgh airport is (is that right?!!), but nobody had the courtesy to explain why our plane (Ryanair) and the one already at Gate 3 (EasyJet) were so delayed - or why we were both at the same gate.

Once the EasyJet plane eventually left, we Ryanair passengers moved ourselves into the queues as indicated by the EasyJet priority/cattle-class indicators. Some minutes later, the Ryanair staff changed these to their own sign, but with the queue positions reversed, so everyone had to swap to the opposite queue - NOT appreciated. After more tens of minutes waiting in the snake-like queuing lines, Gate 3 suddenly changed to show Gate Closed, and our flight was then advertised on Gate 4's screens, so we all had to move across one gate - climbing underneath the cloth/belt barriers, as we were all well too fed up by then to traipse right the way through the whole snake system.

It was not until we actually got on the plane that the Captain actually apologised for the delay - the first member of staff to do so. If I have any other option in future, I will do everything I can to avoid this airport.

The final weekend of the Edinburgh Festival is going to be busy. Deal with it! It should not be a surprise - and if you cannot deal with it because of your own poor planning or any other unexpected natural disaster, you could at least 1) have the decency to let customers know what is going on, and 2) have the kindness to switch ON those things in the ceiling that look suspiciously like air conditioning units, so that the customers do not melt in a massive pool of perspiration, which could easily cause a slip, trip or fall hazard!

There were people taking phone video footage of this chaos, and I would be very interested to know what the Health and Safety Executive (or its Scottish equivalent) thought of this method of crowd control. Heaven forbid if there had been an emergency and an evacuation had been required.

I was very disappointed, and I feel strongly enough that I have to leave this review so that someone in management at Edinburgh Airport might think more carefully about how they handle this situation in future. Considering the airport sponsors the Tattoo, perhaps you could ask them how they appeared to be considerably more competent and polite in controlling the crowds entering and leaving their venue.

Being re-designed to squeezing every last penny out of you. From expensive pick up and drop off charges through to cramped duty free shop. It's designed IKEA style to get you double back on yourself to yet more shops. Then there is the baggage reclaim, good luck with that.

The most thorough and stupid baggage check you've ever seen. They checked whiskey, baby food, etc., with machines and manually, despite not exceeding 100 ml. They have a whole string of rules that you must comply with without anyone having warned you, in front of the fish face of the reviewer on duty. We went two hours early and almost missed the flight. Ridiculous.

Of coarse everyone should hear this: EDI is the worst airport in Europe (maybe much worst than a local LCC airport in the EU). It's crowded, packed and lack of space for more planes. Shopping area is crowded and security takes long time.

Covid dangerous for arrivals. No physical distancing, mixing of passengers from different flights, cramped conditions in passport control, 70% of electronic passports not working. Very poor.

Too bad such a nice city has such a rotten airport. There are far too few seats near the gates an on an outbound flight we were allowed through the gate only to be left waiting in some windy and leaky passageway on the tarmac because we had to wait for arriving passengers to pass. Rank amateurs.

Collecting an international student. Drove round and round but unable to find entrance to terminal parking Grrrr. Parked at Park and Ride and very mad dash to meet plane!! Sort out signage please!!

Drop off and pick up point it's a complete rip off. You won't fine so expensive car park any where else. Glasgow much bigger airport don't charge for a drop off and only 1.50 for pick up Edinburgh prices drop off 1 pound pick up 3.90!!! Shocking

Not an airport with the best directions, landing a...

Not an airport with the best directions, landing and exiting wasn t too bad but arriving to fly from EDI was a bit more of a task. The length of the queues in security were dire. Eventually finding an (uncomfortably wooden) seat that you can actually read the time screens from it was apparent that over half of the flights being shown had a delay stamp. This being said members of staff seemed like they see these sorts of delays daily and offered no extra help or apology for the inconvenience caused, I never knew people could look so bored.

In a possibly unrelated note, I was made to board my plane through the rear door, although I was seated more towards the front of the plane. As you can imagine I had to fight my way past people in the aisle boarding through the front door that ended being sat behind me.

In all of that the airport is very clean, well done cleaning staff.

Extremely unfriendly and obviously overstrained security staff. It is certainly not the most exciting and challenging job, but a minimum of friendliness and manners should be expected there as well.

Great place to park, quick and easy to get to. Fast transfer with the bus run coming home.
Not all good tho, as I had to change reg number on the booking the day before my holiday, but for some reason I could not get a hold of anyone at all? The phone would ring out and ask you to leave your details but no one called back? I ended up having to book a totally new booking, costing me double.

When Departure checks the carry-on items at the security check and is a little too suspicious, I open the bag right away. I looked forward to it, but I spent 20 minutes waiting for my turn. I've got a minute so I can see you from mine. But I wasn't ready.

The only airport where the security checks made me lose sight of the tray containing the hand luggage, handbag, jacket. More than 10 endless minutes without having an eye on EVERYTHING. Unbelievable.

Used to be a really nice airport but layout and security changes have turned it into a nightmare at peak times. Security understaffed as usual and now having to stop more people entering security. Gone from my favourite to worst airport.

Absolute garbage, more planning goes into a circus...

Absolute garbage, more planning goes into a circus than this airport. Constant gate changes, along with absolutely no air conditioning on one of the hottest days of the year so far.

The toilets too have never been seen clean, so if you want to sit in a boiling airport for hours, walking from one end to another whilst they decide to play about and change gates, and go into stinking toilets and come out dirtier than you went in then you've found the perfect place.

Oh and the most useless and stupid gate staff in the known world (thanks to Swissport for that), where they like to have 3 'queues' (if you want to call it that, more mass groups of people) for 1 flight along with rudeness, shouting and crap attitude.

If you're looking for amateur hour, then you've found your airport.
