InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG®) (Holiday Inn, Rotorua) Review

Hotel is nice, staff welcoming and rooms were adequately equipped. Facilities were OK.

Lots to see and do but the smell of Sulphur was too much for me. We stayed 3 nights in Rotorua and 1 night in Auckland. I would have preferred to stay in Auckland but it was a group holiday and that was how the itinerary was organised.

Always very good food and very good staff. Sometimes a little slow but thats because its always so busy and popular.

I was able to spend comfortably in a large and beautiful room.
Breakfast was also very delicious and very satisfying.
I want to repeat again.

Hotel was awesome! Great staff, beautiful rooms, only complaint(s) is the WiFi was a bit slow and when the hotel is fully booked finding parking is very tricky.

This hotel is very good, we stayed two nights here and we will be coming back. We booked a two queen bedroom, very clean , beds are very comfy, staff are super friendly. Has a gift store, yummy food all around awesome.

We come here every year for a family trip had been nice so this time we decided to upgrade to a room with view, but first night already found a cockroach fast running cross bed. Don t feel safe to sleep especially Son has eczema need extra care with his skin. Maureen and the team very very helpful, explained the cockroach is from bushes not concern of hygiene but still tidy up our room right away. Giving us extra baby care products too. Very considerate:)

Spacious clean lobby with friendly staff working the front desk. Helped us arrange a pick-up for a tour we were going on. Also saw a traditional Poi dancer when checking out, pretty cool.

Great place to stay at good value. It's nice that it is a little out of the business of town but still close enough. Great facilities and a really nice restaurant. Very friendly staff and service. Highly recommended.

Nice hotel with great service, heated pools and two spas with naturally heated waters. Includes a small gym with treadmills and a rowing machine. The breakfast is great with being a buffet and has comfortable beds.

Nice rooms, friendly staff, hot pools and facilities right in the hotel. There's really no reason to leave the hotel.
While I was quite happy with the whole experience, my wife (very light sleeper) slightly upset with the aircon in the room (little noisy), and the light coming from the ceiling by the air con unit.

Otherwise everything was good.

Lovely hotel, clean large rooms, plenty storage in rooms, child friendly, great location beside geothermal resort, geothermally heated outdoor swimming pool and spas, friendly helpful staff. As it is beside the geothermal area, outside smells a bit of sulphur (rotten eggs). Very limited off-street parking. Rooms have thin walls (ie not sound proofed!).

Comfortable enough. A little run down. Food was average. Cold coffee. Friendly service, comfy bed and seem to have decent facilities though (heated pool)

Clean feel, comfy bed, great choices on breakfast and dinner menu. I unfortunately did not have enough time to try the outdoor pool or fitness room. Good to see a very well stocked in house souvenir shop for travellers who might not have the opportunity to go into town, which is "quite a walk".

Good location as it is a stone-throw away from the Maori heritage site. Buffet breakfast and dinner as well.

night staff lacking to resolve room issues.
Disappointed in room service menu - inconsistencies as room provides a menu yet for children no menu. You're expected to know that a children's menu exists in their restaurant but not noted on room service menu. Expect requests to not be executed the first time.
Disappointed in state of room that is charged at $440 for two nights. Refer picture attached re toilet bowl status for a 4 star accomodation....and bottom bed sheet when covers pulled back.

Attempts to remedy was lacking.
Final remedy: food bill covered by hotel and $208.00 for one nights stay refunded. Yet, $440.00 for two nights stay paid. I walked the second night based on lacklustre attitude to remedy.

Would I return? No. Would I recommend? No.

The room is very tidy and all staffs are very kind and friendly. I love this place

Our room was nice and big, beds were really comfortable. The heated pool and hot tubs are excellent. Towels available by the pool. Gym has a rower, treadmill, few dumbells and a multi function machine. Personally I don't like showers inside a bath tub, they are a real hazard. Our room didn't get cleaned when we had the sign up from when we left at 7am. Someone came by at 5pm but by that time we just wanted a shower and to relax after a long day. The food at the restaurant is not great and is quite expensive. No decent healthy options. They do run a free shuttle to town every hour, or $15 in a taxi.

Really LOVED this place, everything was beautiful, the room, the service, the pools, the view of Whakarewarewa geothermal area. I travelled on my birthday and briefly mentioned that when I booked over the phone due to the requested specifics like room with view, breakfast included etc, and didn't think they would remember , but on arrival they were more than accommodating and 30 mins after checking into my room the lovely girl at reception came to my room with a Chocolate platter with happy birthday in chocolate and a card wishing me a happy birthday. That was pretty special, I wasn't expecting it and didn't mention it was my birthday when I checked in, so AWESOME SERVICE Holiday Inn, you guys are Amazing!!!!!
Also breakfast buffet was great, quiet and lots of fresh food being bought out onto the buffet and the staff were so friendly and welcoming..

Pool is lovely for just bobbing around. It is far enough out not to be noisy but offers shuttles in to town so you don't have to drive if you don't want to. The breakfast was great

From the warm hospitable welcome to the polite and friendly response of the restaurant and bar staff, everything was wonderful. Our room was spotlessly clean, bed nice and comfy and the pool, spa and fitness room were perfect for our short two night stay. Thank you for looking after us, Holiday Inn Rotorua. We will be back.

Not up to Holiday Inn standard. Pretty dated rooms. There was some sort of light in our room which was pretty disturbing and nobody had any idea where it was coming from. Finally after a lot of discussions they could turn it off but we and our kids lost precious sleep amidst a hectic trip.

Place wants too bad, was a bit noisy as you would expect. The room was clean but the bathroom needs a refresh.

Great location and facilities for a few days in Roto.

Excellent accomodation, large queen size beds, spacious rooms with a full.size fridge. Has a bath and a shower in the rooms. Heated pool outside with hot tubs.

We stay at this hotel once a year and it is usually nice but our recent trip kind of ruined it when we arrived to our room and instantly noticed a smell of urine and what looked like toothpaste spit in the bathroom. We were able to move to another room so we thought we were in the clear but we left a single item in The last room and when we asked the next day they said someone could be in that room but they would check. We asked at the end of our holiday so they finally checked the room to no avail. It would have been so easy to find this item when we first asked. Parking could be better as we found that having to park on the other side of the block and carry bags to the building a bit annoying. We get it was busy at the buffet but food kept disappearing instantly and was not replaced for a long time. We had the same food for dinner multiple days in a row at the buffet. Eating lamb 3 nights in a row is gross. One night three quarters of my food was cold from the buffet, please get more food out instead of letting us eat cold slop.
Other than that the room was nice just please put tissues in a more accessible place in the "two adult one child rooms" but we still would come back as we tend to enjoy our stay.

Good service and decent rooms... but the view outside the window could be improved by taking better care of the exterior of the hotel with rusted a.c. ducting and faded paint taking away from the beautiful forest scenery

Great hotel with great services! The swimming pool was NOT clean but there were pool toys like balls and noodles. Nice clean place with friendly staff.

I was here for 5 nights at the beginning of January and the quality of the rooms was awesome. Although relatively unimportant, the Wi-Fi was also great. All staff were friendly and the rooms were clean and modern. It's location is also great as it's close to many tourist attractions. Absolutely awesome, would happily stay here again if I was given the chance!

Grab the special super happy and still have breakfast! There are plenty of breakfasts and there are porridges that have irritated my Chinese stomach. Maybe the room is not too good because of the cheap price. The air conditioner can't be turned on. Otherwise, it is very noisy. But the room is still quite warm. There is a small reptile mattress in the room. In the conditioner of the soft bathroom, a golden hair is squeezed out with friends. The interior of our two rooms is a very user-friendly design that can be connected to the door.

Huge room with 2 double beds, they gave us a bottle of sparkling wine as it was our honeymoon, and it was not expected

From the carpark onwards this was a great place. Welcomed and had our bags taken inside, the front desk staff friendly ans cheerful. The room was clean and spacious. Unlimited wi-fi and great views.

Lobby and rooms look newly refurbished. The rest is quit old and needs improvement. Great wifi connection and good shower!

I enjoyed my stay here. The locations right next to a Maori village. Great for sight seeing. Thermal swimming pool is nice if you do not want to take hourly shuttle to downtown. I would return.

Kids eat and stay free, check out their VIK package for families. Also IHG Rewards points is bonus.

Well worth what we paid for the few nights we stayed during our tour. Best nights sleep in most comfortable beds. Looked after very well, breakfasts very tasty to start us up for each day. Maoris the friendliest people treating you like one of their family. Would definately go back!

Thermally heated pools are bliss! Great views from our window of Te Puia,steam rising everywhere. Enjoyed the bar food.

Upon check-in the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and have been maintained and updated. Rooms have good AC, TV, and comfy beds. The beds come with a firm and soft pillow to choose from. The hotel has a buffet for breakfast - dinner as well as a full menu to order food and drinks from. It is within walking distance from many different things including Te Puia and the Redwood forest. There are also a few cafes within walking distance for a different selection of food.

Have always enjoyed eating here but a handle of beer $11.00 love my beer but hell that's ova te to.

Excellent hotel. Pool is geothermal heated to temperature similar to that of a typical hot tub. Some rooms also have view over geothermal park. Quality of toiletries used also great.

A very clean and respectful Hotel. The spa pool was well used by us with no shortage of warm towels. Our view over the geyser area was marvelous and relaxing. A definate sence of holiday. Wifi service was excellent. Loved the coffee maker machine. Will use the Hotel again.
