Insteon Review

The switches & dimmers last about 2 years, then fail. Crickets, for customer service. @ $60+ each.... not worth it

Horrible customer service experience. Email advertised item at one price, website kept coming up with a different price. Customer service seems to be outsourced and is clueless (didn't know anything about the advertised offer, couldn't do simple math).

Hub died after two years and customer service keeps giving me the run around. They have requested the same information multiple times over two weeks but haven't done anything. Now they're no longer responding to my emails. Don't bother buying their garbage products unless you plan on just throwing them away after a year or two.

They no longer have a showroom or sales office at this location, however the sales support staff were incredibly helpful and solved the problem I was having with an older hub. I will continue to use Insteon devices to expand my home automation.

Horrible experience. Ryan from customer service refused to assist me, refused to let me speak to a supervisor, and refused to have some mercy after driving 80 miles each way to find out there is no will call when on the website it says so. I will be returning my whole order and was planning on spending quite a bit of money to automate my whole house. Definitely won t be with smarthome! They sure know how to make a customer not buy their products!!! Thanks for saving me lots of headaches with your lousy customer service!

I have been an Insteon Customer since 2014. My career is in the Lighting Industry (fixture mfgrg, lamps, controls) and I did a thorough cost and feature evaluation before deciding to install Insteon through out my home... big decision since I have friends at Lutron, Crestron, Vantage, Acuity N-Light.

I have more than 35 devices (dimmers, recepticles, motion sensors, switches) installed in my home and I LOVE the features (including Universal Devices) and have had GREAT performance and service throughout these past 6 years.

In reading some other reviews, I cannot offer an explanation for their problems (perhaps installation issues? power surges?). I have had to replace a few dimmers out of my 35+ units (most were warrantied), and I have had to replace a Power Module (apparently not uncommon).

I am still an Insteon Fan and am actually installing 8 new Insteon dimmers and 2 new receptacles for my new home Landscaping lighting project, controlling 8 zones with adjustable lighting levels, including astrological time clock adjustments for daylight savings and "after-midnight" dimming.

Other reviews aside, I invite everyone to do their own due-diligence and give Insteon a fair look.

Just agreeing with other customers, if your favorite pass time is to replace switches every 2 years, by all means go with insteon. I brought my dimmer switch and smart hub in when they still have showroom, the guy in the front desk is less than helpful. Shaming me in front of other customer saying that in live, I can't get free stuff, nothing last forever, etc. All I'm asking for is to consider a discount on replacement smart hub, citing that i read power components had been improved etc, god knows that POS is expensive but no. The insteon hub, just sitting there and one day it stopped turning on, it is behind an APC battery and regulator too!
I have my whole house using insteon (over 30 insteon devices) before but no more. Please read other reviews, on their site, in google, all citing same issues, just one day stop working. Same with dimmer, the rockers just stop responding after about 2 years. Safe yourself a grief unless you like replacing all your switches every 2 years like replacing bulbs (ha even bulbs last longer than 2 years nowadays!). Go with Caseta from Lutron! Backed by a more reliable company!
