I haven t even had the opportunity to work yet. I attended orientation. I completed my application. I drove 50 min to Cherry Hill to submit everything typed up, IN PERSON, to avoid any mishaps. I did the finger print process with a recruiter on her laptop. I paid all fees. I had 2 recruiters look over ALL paperwork before I left.
I get emails stating my application is incomplete. I get emails TWICE stating the fingerprint process was done wrong and it is now MY job to call the state and correct it. I get a notice saying my subbing application can t be typed and to please do it over and mail it in. (WHAT?)
After all was apparently resolved a month later, I m told I can sub as a para until my sub cert is done in 2-4 weeks. I finally see an opportunity to work as a para and NO information is listed other than school and day. Am I qualified for this job? Is it a 1-1? What grade? What subject? Does the child have specific needs? Will I be assisting a teacher all day or working with developmental disabilities? ANY PARENT would want a substitute to know these things before being approved to come in and work with their child. At the very least, a vague description and how much is paid would be nice.
I then called the county education office to see if they received my sub cert application. Guess what? They didn t. It was supposed to be sent to them last week. With private, notarized information enclosed and a money order I sure hope that is being tracked. The kind lady at the county office said she would call me when she got it because she approves them the DAY she receives them. (So much for 2-4 weeks. Is that how much time they give themselves to get it there and back?) Where is my money order? Where are my documents?
The county needs to know about this. Not only have I been going through this for over a month now but I have emailed regarding the last two issues with no reply. They have my name, email and number and at this point it should be on speed dial.
What gives? Why is this so hard? It s no wonder these districts are so hard up on substitutes. Meanwhile, I m just trying to save a little money while I search for a full-time job since I just graduated grad school. ...with a concentration in organizational leadership. These issues can be so frustrating.
