What a great Inova facility. They are so nice and what a great medical service staff. Was in for same day procedure and had to stay overnight for pain managment. The really addressed my pain needs which by and far is what i want in a hospital.

On the more interesting side, i see Inova aAlexandria like a boutique hospital. They use high tech inpatient interaction which shows you important information and multiple ways to interact with the staff for non critical issues. Surveys will pop up to make sure you are ok and asks if you would like help in your room.

The nursing staff was SO NICE! They also had towel swans and room service food delivery from the cafe. Try the berry smoothies

We just had an awesome experience at the Inova Alexandria Hospital Emergency Room today. My husband had a kidney stone and they took us back immediately upon arrival. Everyone from the attendants to the doctors were friendly, professional, and efficient. The facility was clean and they had us in and out of there in under 2 hours - - that included the initial exam, Cat Scan, administering meds, writing prescriptions, and all associated paperwork. It's nice to know this facility is so close in case we need them again. It will be our first choice.

Complete and udder TRASH! very disrespectful and unhelpful. My family wanted to all be in attendance for the birth of our nephew and we were told only 5 people can be in the hospital. Not the delivery room THE WHOLE HOSPITAL! That is completely unacceptable and disgusting that you wouldn't allow an excited and close-knit family to enjoy and rejoice a new life and addition to their family. I recommend having a baby on the side of the rode in a ditch during a hail storm than to come here. VA sucks!!!

In October 2017, I was diagnosed with leukemia, within 3 days of the diagnosis I was admitted to INOVA Alexandria Hospital to begin treatment. I spent the next 30 days in the hospital receiving a battery of tests, surgical procedures, and chemotherapy. I had never been in a hospital for medical treatment and i m in my 50s. So to say it was a scary experience for me is an understatement. I just want to say that during my stay every employee of INOVA Alexandria Hospital I interacted with was incredibly friendly, empathetic and professional. On my several returns for follow up treatment. I experienced the same treatment. I want to thank all the employees I met and who treated me and I especially want to thank the members of the Oncology and CVIR units where I spent the majority of my time.

Thank You all very much.

I have not had positive experiences here on multiple occasions- the hospital seems to not focus on the patient but on just processing people through. They could learn a few things from Children s hospital in DC - while their focus is on children, their service model is outstanding.

The hospital staff has been mostly good, but some have been unprofessional and
unresponsive. The room was filthy! My mother's room was not cleaned after last patient: under the bed, the food table on top and the inside was disgusting, brown drippy stuff on the shade, bathroom door had something dripping down it, the bathroom was unclean, thick dust in the bathroom vent. Hard to believe this place is suppose to be a place to care for ill people. Very disappointed in this INOVA facility.

I suggest insurance companies or some authority to investigate the age of the medical equipment employed in imaging. Secondly train doctors and nurses to respect patients when they seek answers. Bulldozing their opinion or scientific wild ass guesses on patients is not the way for Inova group. Train your radiologists in communication skills with a sense of responsibility towards their job, have some kind of metrics by which you can gauge and discipline your doctors. substandard services on the whole , this hospital is a monopoly in the region. Highly not recommend this hospital or their doctors.

I have been to this hospital emergency multiple times for different reasons and it is horrible. Once I had pain in my uterus, crying, couldn t even talk and the doctor prayed for me and sent me home. Didn t even try to figure out the problem. I went to inova fairfax the next week and I was they did a CT scan and saw I had blood in my uterus. It could have been very dangerous if I listened to the first doctor. On a different day I saw mice running around in the emergency waiting room. What kind of a hospital is this. I have plenty more horrible staff stories about this place but the point is, PLEASE DONT GO HERE if you can help it.

Though not perfect, but , based on my recent experience, I found Alexandria Hospital an asset in the neighborhood, with experienced and friendly staff, including doctors and nurses, with some - I remember one, Isabel- in caring of patients went beyond their duties.
I wish them all the best.

My brother is admitted from last 5 days, they keep taking his blood every other day, they diagnose the problem but still not sure what they want to do. Doctors visits once a day, I asked water from nurse for my brother and she forgot and this happened twice at same day, they bring water after 40 min, I will say this is the worst place never go there, Fairfax hospital is much much better.

I been here way too many times to count. It always varies on the type of service. Can really say I have had a bad experience with the ER staff. They always seem like the nicest staff out of the whole hospital staff. Not saying the other staff is bad or not nice. Just they seem to be happier and enjoy their job more.

I went to the ER on 08/07/19 thinking, I had a bad cold. The doctor that saw me decided to give me a chest x-ray and discovered I had pneumonia. If I was at a hospital in my area DC, I m sure they wouldn t given me a chest x-ray. For that I gave them five stars everyone was polite, they were quick and it was clean.

I am always alittle apprehensive regarding Drs., Hospitals, etc. And I'm a Healthcare worker myself!
When I was admitted earlier this month with an Infectious Disease, I can honestly say that the entire
staff on duty that night, were absoultely professional and fun to have around:) My sincerest compliments go out to nurses Leza, Cherry, Gloria, Elizabeth, Maria, all the cleaning crew, the Food carrier, Nina. They made my six day stay absolutely delightful! They are Unit 26 on the newly renovated Orthopedic section. Kudos to all of you, especially those whose names I cannot remember. Not one bad apple in the whole bushel! Thank you for giving me such wonderful, compassionate care! You are highly recommended to all:)

The doctor, nursing staff, and support personnel including the patient representative that check you in we're all great to me and my son I really appreciate it. the only thing that I would recommend is the lobby and the emergency room area waiting to see medical personnel could have been kept cleaner but the place is so small and crowded at times that this may be hard to do no reflection on medical personnel.

Worst place ever! This place GAVE me an infection and failed to prescribe antibiotics after the major surgery I had. They also refused to keep me overnight for observation!

During the 2nd ER visit for the abscess that formed in my stomach because I had no antibiotics in my system after this surgery (had a fever and pus pouring out of my incision). The doctor was extremely surprised when she asked which antibiotic I was on and I told her none had been prescribed (she gave me lots!).

Their website even states you should anticipate staying in the hospital for 2 days after the kind of surgery I had for observation, to make sure you're breathing properly, can go to the bathroom and to make sure you can walk. Go some place else if you can help it because you may get 2 infections and end up in the ER a couple of times after seeing them!

I was there about a year ago for pelvic ultrasound...

I was there about a year ago for pelvic ultrasound. They were very nice. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the toilet...it looked like a hotel toilet, with real rolled handtowels, and flowers.
The person at the patients registration window was amazingly welcoming, curteous and pleasant.
The only problem I had is their billing department!! Though I gave them the insurance details, they kept sending me bills - they never invoiced the insurance. And trying to talk to them did not work....it is either a voice message or unhelpful personnel who asked to call at certain time that I got. They had the indecency to send it to collection even though I tried many times to resolve it before it got to that stage.

Right now, my good friend is an in patient there with a heart problem. There was a very cheerful nurse who made the patients and visitors smile.
I thought the room he shared with another patient is way too small for two people.
But I was surprised at their restaurant style lunch menu....am sure it makes patients forget their situation even if it is for a few minutes.

This was the absolute worst hospital/patient exper...

This was the absolute worst hospital/patient experience of my life. I was admitted per my doctor's request for overnight observation. I requested to go to VA hospital center, but since the doctor was not associated with that hospital they had me go to INOVA Alexandria, HUGE MISTAKE on my part.

Not only did they inject me with a medication they knew I was allergic with (a form a penicillin), the doctor then told me at the end of my stay she didn't see the allergy in my file and she was unaware of said allergy or she would not have prescribed it to me. The customer care department then wrote me a letter saying they did know I was allergic to the medication, and decided to give it to me anyway without informing me. I ended up having the most severe allergic reaction I've ever had.

When I wrote to explain my awful experience to their customer department (Getting in touch with this department was near impossible. It took over 3 months of contacting the billing dept for a contact, each time being provided the same, incorrect contact, leaving messages requesting a call back, etc.. It wasn't until 3 months later when I threatened to get a lawyer did someone actually call me back.)

The overall experience was terrible. I had had imaging done 3 days before at another hospital that came back clean, the hospital had the results but they decided they wanted to run their own imaging anyway and then charged me OVER 2X what VA hospital had charged me for the exact same tests.

The whole experience was absolutely horrible and they never even diagnosed me with anything. They provided no closure nor did I feel any better when I left. They charged me an ABSOLUTE FORTUNE on billing, even though they told me "You have excellent insurance coverage".

DO NOT GO HERE EVER. I also will never see a doctor associated with this hospital again. I used to work in hospitals and I HIGHLY recommend Virginia Hospital Center. They are fabulous there on every level.

I went to the hospital today to visit my husband, my husband was in a room with another patient, the other patient next to my husband wasn't feeling so well, the patient made an accident on the floor that my husband couldn't live in the room. The patient was very weak and needed serious help. He fell down multiple times. We tried calling the nurse but there was no nurse available, there was no one who can help us, also I saw where my husband was sitting and he was close to falling down on the floor. If this is a hospital, why couldn't nurses come when you try to call them. My husband could have fallen on the floor and the other patient could have died. Instead it takes quite a long time for a nurse to happen. I'm not very satisfied of the way nurses treat their patients. I feel like that my husband better get help someplace else and not this hospital.

If I could I would give this INOVA hospital system...

If I could I would give this INOVA hospital system an absolute ZERO rating or a negative star. I had an infection in my finger and it was swelling and becoming more painful by the minute. The hospital took a dozen blood samples, asked numerous times if I were diabetic and ran a GI
test... remember I had an infected finger. All I needed done was to have my finger lanced and drained of the puss and abcess. I was admitted over night only to be put on IV antibiotics and yet not a single doctor looked at my finger. I was on a no food or water protocol waiting for a doctor, at 6pm the next day and after giving more blood and IV antibiotics I was told Ithe doctors had left for the day so I got dressed pulled out my iv's and started to walk out AMA(against medical advice). The nurses weren't at fault but come on... I was there to get my infected finger taken care of. They wanted me to sign an AMA walk off paper to which I refused because they were testing me for liver enzymes, diabetes and GI problems of which I have none.... and never address the issue I was there for in the first place.
Needless to say, my finger infection had spread to my palm and my thumb now.....if I get a bill from them my lawyer is going to have a field day.
So if you go to the ER make sure you demand to get only the tests you need and have your ailment issues talked about before signing anything.
I'm off th DC general now to get this infection drained.......
PS . infection from working on a car and banging my knuckle on rusted metal, some old petroleum pruduct or road dirt. Lucky I didn't wait another day for this doctor since I might have lost my finger.
I did receive a call from a doctor at home 2hrs after I left.... but too little too late after asking ever 1-2 hrs where is my doctor all day before walking out.

Over the last 14 months my husband has had a quadruple heart bypass (spent 10 days) Then 4 months later spent 39 days at this hospital due to complications from colon cancer surgery. Now exactly 1 year later he has returned for further surgery. 2 things we live in Fredericksburg (sometimes it's a 3 hour trip) AND I have been a nurse forever. I HAVE NEVER seen such a compassionate, caring facility in my entire life! The people who work in this hospital TRULY care for their patients and their families.

Came in with a fever of 103.7 after several days, was given ibuprofen and sent home. I had to go back that evening because I was in pancreatic failure. It was several days before my body was strong enough to withstand surgery to remove my gall bladder, and I was told "well your heart rate is really elevated so you're clearly in here because you're in pain, not because you're trying to get drugs".

Come here if you want to be handed a pain pill and be told to follow up with your gp in a few days.

Sorry to say unfortunately this Hospital gives Inova a black eye . I have been admitted there multiple times in the last year, and every time the ER is great but once you get upstairs then the nightmare starts. First thing you will find out is there is no communication with the ER so do not expect to get any meds or food for at least 12 to 15 hrs, so if you have a condition that requires you to take your med at a certain time expect to miss your dose. Also Inova does not employ there own doctors to work on the floors, they sublet it to Sound Physicians, and they seem to be there to collect a pay check as they will rarely come to visit you in your room. I have had to call my personal doctors to come to the hospital to get treatment. The other issue is the nurses also have no compaction and they treat you like a criminal, after saying that they are not all bad some are great, it just sucks that the others ruin what they do. On that point if you go to Fairfax Hospital you will have a much better experience. The Doctors and Nursing staff are a lot more friendly and helpful to make you comfortable during your stay. I hope that they read the reviews of there hospital and try to make it better, but at this time I an cutting all ties with any doctor that has privileges with that hospital so I never have to go back to there. QH

PS I was forced to rate the hospital by selecting a star rating so I gave it a one but i feel like it needs a -50

I ve given inova three tries. One bigger disappointment than the last. This last one, I was asked to arrive half an hour early to get checked out before an mri. I couldn t even talk to a human being until after my appointment time, at which point I was given a form and phone number if I wanted my to reschedule, no thanks. Never again. Could have not wasted at least the wait time if a human being could have checked me in and told me about the wait.

At this point, the level of patient disdain is so high, I d choose amputation in a McDonald s with plastic utensils over some chance of saving the limb at inova.

Asked them to take my insurance time and time again, wouldn't do it. Asked for my medical records to be sent to insurance apparently they didn't do it. Have been trying to contact the doctors to send the records and cannot get in touch with any of them. They are threatening to ruin my credit when I have been spending months trying to fix this horrible mess. Everyone we came in touch with was helpful and very nice. Nurses would stop by to see if I needed anything and they were not my regular nurse. They just cared enough to be sure I was comfortable. Everyone smiled and really seem to love their jobs. Hospitals can be a miserable place because you usually don t feel well, but everyone took great care of me.

While I was there, they had a few technical difficulties, but they had a backup option and it never affected my care.

The Dining On Call has a wide selection of foods for all diets and the food was really good. Best grilled cheese I ve had in a long time.

My room was large and comfortable. It was clean and someone from the cleaning department stopped by to be sure everything was to my satisfaction.

Thank you for making my stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible. I will definitely recommend Alexandria Hospital and my surgeon, Dr Gillian to anyone needing Hiatal Hernia and/or GERD repair surgery.

I was just released on Tuesday, October 24th. My overall stay was okay until Monday night when a 90 year old woman in the cardiac section who was not mobile had to be sat with all night. The sitter which arrived at the change of staff entered the room, turned her TV up where it impeded on me listening to my TV and once I turned my TV off for the night still didn't turn the TV down and it encroached on my space and rest time. I was in the hospital due to blood clots in both my lungs and I'm a breast cancer patient. My nurse (Mary) never once asked the sitter to turn the volume down and my board indicated that I should not be awakened. The respect of the patient's needs should be first not the entertainment of someone there to watch a patient.
The recovery period of the patient while in the hospital should always be the first priority and I pray that this message be reiterated to staff.

Billing is disorganized. I've been to this hospital with my children and many times over the years. In fact, my father in law, a hospital director, is visiting and spending the night ther.

My husband took our child there a couple weeks ago for an ear infection. Even though our son has a primary and secondary insurance we have used in the past they couldn't locate the secondary insurance in their system. He was asked to pay over $200 before he left when there was no balance. When I called billing the next morning to give them the secondary insurance information they already had, they said I'd have to wait months for the claim to go through. They should have never asked us to pay a balance we have insurance to cover. I've decided our family will use another hospital.

I agree with the other reviewer - if I could have yanked the IVs out and run away, I would have. Out of the number of medical professionals I encountered, I can remember a total of 4 that were courteous, helpful, compassionate and knew what they were doing. My Justin Beiber look-alike Dr was horrible. I waited an hour to be seen with severe abdominal pain. I waited another hour to see a nurse and have my issues addressed. The only time there was any expediency is when it was time to kick me out. I had the same pain level, same problem. Of course, I followed up with my doctor but it was an EMERGENCY and I was treated horribly.

Was just hospitalized there and hope I NEVER have to go there again. I had to be taken via ambulance to the ER with excruciating back pain and was sent home with a cane and Motrin.
Second ER visit revealed a ruptured disc. This should of been dealt with the first visit. When you're dealing with pain on this level you should believe your patience and have empathy towards them.
Not a nurturing or healing environment, mainly chaotic, noisy and full of unhappy staff.

Terrible experience. This place is simply there to make money on you and they could honestly care less about you or your loved ones about their health issue. To put it simply your admission to the hospital is based on whether you carry a good or no insurance, so they can make money on you. This also tells me that the management is the really bad. CNAs and nurses are treated like sacrificial lambs especially during this COVid by understaffing. Patients are being lied to about their care plan from the moment they are admitted to the ER to the time of discharge. With regards to cleanliness, I definitely think that are trying their best to keep the hospital clean. This is especially not a place to bring a family member who doesn't have insurance and regardless of how serious condition, forget seeing the doctor and they will keep in there with no plan in action. There is no privacy here at all and I am surprised how two patients are placed in a single room with no privacy at all. Your roommate can hear everything about your diagnosis during rounds which at least was my experience during my hospitalization. How is this place even allowed to continue like this with every single instances of broken HIPPA privacy.
