Indianapolis Zoological Society Review

Really great place to visit. It was amazing to see all the animals up and active. Especially the elephants.

I wish patrons would obey the 6' rule. And virtually no one else was wearing their masks even as they crowded together. The only problem we had was no employees helping to keep people distancing.

Knowing that leopards are the fastest animals in the world, an appropriate place for them would have to be bigger. But animals are beautiful.

Great time with family. Very clean property. Lots of botanical exhibits. Plenty of food/drinks/ice cream locations. They have improved the dolphin show. I would say that this is a premium zoo in the US. Not really large but amazing that it's within walking distance from downtown Indy.

Came during zooboo which is a different twist to the zoo. They decorate the place in Halloween decor and made a little Halloween village. They also have a DJ playing music as well.

I absolute adore the zoo, especially as a date place, large vast selection, you should probably come during the summer.

Love going to the zoo year round especially Zoo Boo.

Great time with our pass to the zoo. The new area is finally done being constructed. And the mccaw exhibit is something to behold when they fly in a few feet above your head.

My only complaint is the crowds. It's easy to not have a positive experience when there are tons of people mobbing the glass.

Go on a rainy day and bring an umbrella for the best experience. The animals are all playing in the water and it's like you have your own private zoo.

Nice place, however very crowded and noisy. There was also long line for the shops, as there was quite a lot of people visiting, and a few of the snack shops where closed.

Great Zoo expensive though...
It was $102 and some cents for four of us to get in.. bottle of water is$3 same with a pop... It would be very expensive to take a whole family, but the zoo was fabulous; the dolphin show was nice; all the animals were great to see... lions and tigers and bears oh my....

It should get a makeover its been the same... forever

Not has nice has Wichita, KS zoo when it comes to animals. But did have rides verses very little at Wichita.

My husband and I went to the Indianapolis Zoo with another couple while visiting the city over the Summer. It is not overwhelmingly huge but is still a good size with lots of animals to see. We also made it in time for the Dolphin Show which was actually one of the better ones I have seen. The park was not very crowded when we went on Sunday. We also paid $3 a person to ride the skylift that goes over the top of the park. The line was a bit of a wait (almost half an hour) but the breeze once we got up there felt nice and there were some alright views (mostly tops of buildings though). You can walk the entire park in a few hours and there is a water area for kids to play. The only thing we missed was the Butterfly exhibit which closes earlier than the rest of the park and is located outside of the main entrance. We were so sad we missed it, so make sure you go do that first! Overall, super fun way to spend a day.

Amazing time and great family place to spend quality time together

If you re worried of Covid do not come. Based on time tickets looks like 1400 people can come in each hour.. the zoo is not big. And a lot of exhibits are inside. Meaning there are lines everywhere. The oceans line gets right in the way of the front gate where people walk in. The desert and dolphin lines go directly into the area where people are eating without masks not to mention social distancing in lines was just not enforced. And in all other open exhibits you are touching people in random groups because of the crowds. They expect people to be at the zoo for maybe an hour or so but how can you be there for an hour if that s how long one line is?!? Not to mention it is not sanitary. I was in the pavilion for an hour (resting with my children) and after a macaw show with a very crowded atmosphere no employees came to disinfect the seats that everyone was sitting in. Nothing was wiped down. Masks weren t enforced. Social distancing wasn t enforced. And it s very crowded. I believe the zoo cares more about money then the safety of those who come.

Indy has an excellent zoo. Lots of animals to see. Not funded by taxes. Family always has fun visiting.

Indianapolis zoo is awesome. Clean food was good . Family passes are reasonable.

It is one of the best zoo s I have visited. My kids really enjoyed.. if you are planning to go , make sure you buy tickets 2-3 weeks early , since the price increases as the dates get closer. There are special stations for moms with small kids where they can change diapers or feed. Be sure to watch dolphin show. It is amazing. If you sit in the front row for the show you will get a nice water splash!!! White river was not as good as expected. But if you have kids who are learning about butterfly life cycle , they might enjoy. There are some rides for kids. Also kids can race in cheetah track which they will enjoy. Overall it was an amazing experience.

The dolphin show is the absolute best part of the zoo! It's free with adadmission. They were so beautiful, I actually cried. Definitely worth seeing!

Decent place, in the middle of Indy. The park outside was even better.

Has a very diverse collection of animals. Takes like 2 hours to watch the whole zoo.

Very crowded but we'll managed. Beautiful lights at Christmas. Took my 2 year old son and we had a blast

Was a great little weekend jaunt. We're from Cincinnati. Our zoo is better, but less easily traversed compared to Indianapolis.

The zoo is so family friendly and there are lots of things for the little ones to see and do.

This was a fantastic zoo, great staff, good variety of animals, great place!

The zoo it self is great. I understand that people working there get paid. But for the many many many many visitors that come there ,the prices should not be that much for food and at the gift shop. Yes I know that the care of and feeding is part of it to ,but more could be sold if priced less.
A family is limited to buying and sharing. They are even getting donations.

I honestly just felt bad for the animals the whole duration of the visit. I went because I know it would be fun for my boys, they did have fun but half way through the already asked me for my phone so they could play games on my phone.

My favorite exhibit was the penguins, they are so funn

5 stars for quality and cleanliness of the zoo. They are always looking to expand and do a fantastic job with educational programs for schools and teachers.

Disappointing that the membership doesn't include better discounts on the attractions.

They go out of their way to make it an amzing experience. Zookeepers are extremely friemdly and approachable. Highly recommend you visit when in the area.

Food is very expensive, but that is pretty normal at zoos. The blue cheese tater tots are amazing. Bring a water bottle or sippy cup for kids and split an adult drink into them for kids. The adult cups don't have lids or straws. They have a great nursing nest.

Went around 10 spent a few hours and it was super fun and not too crowded

Our family had a pretty great time. Due to the pandemic they are appropriately allowing only certain amount of participants in at a time. You need to choose a time phrame to enter. If you're early you have to wait in your car or head over to the butterfly planetarium which is adorable. The lines to get into the panguins, dolphins, sloths, and giraffes were unfortunately so long we didn't even wait for them. Thats my only negative experience. All in all it was a great experience. Masks are required to enter. We saw plenty of people outside without them but employees were telling people to put theirs back on.

Took grandkids and they were having the time of their life

Nice mid sized zoo. The grounds were well taken care of and clean. Animals seemed to be in good health and a good variety of them. Don't waste your time on the train ride, you really don't see anything!

Truly a beautiful zoo the best I have ever been to in a long time. Staff there are awesome my wife's electric cart died and they came out the the back of the zoo to help after we was done at the zoo and returned the cart they gave us a refund for the cart. My wife and twin 4year old daughters loved visiting they loved the dolphins the most even after 3 weeks they talk about there trip to the Indianapolis zoo. SEE YOU IN 2015!!!

Take a walk around the zoo to see the animals yourself. It's a worthwhile experience. My kids loved it

There ok but some animals especially the tigers need more space. It seems they make the animal spaces smaller each time we go just to make it more possible for people to see them. It has made my desire to take me and my family lessen each year. Just watching the tiger pace back and forth is sad each time we go

Dolphin show was awesome. Luckily butterfly garden was open when we visited and it was amazing.

We love the Zoo. Its clean and easy to get around. The staff is very informative when asked about the animals. And the Zoo boo and Christmas at the Zoo are wonderful.

The small children's playground near large food cafeteria must become a fully enclosed perimeter with onsite monitoring. The hedge landscaping has gaps! Maybe have every child receive a scanned bracelet upon entrance that matches a caretaker. If don't match, then no exiting until resolved. Too many children at one time is unsafe! Being a very attentive parent, my wife and I could not find our child for several minutes. Then we had concernes wondered away unseen or even taken. Terrible experience!

We went for a work party and got to walk around for just a little bit before dinner. The lights were very good. I wish we had more time.
I cant say alot about the zoo itself other than i would like to go back in the daytime.

Knowledgeable and friendly staff, they fielded the dozens of questions thrown by my kids.

I went to the Zoo Boo twice, because it is so many fun activities for my grandkids! They danced; visited treat stations; colored pumpkins; rode the train; visited the animals and so much more!!! The Zoo Boo is a fun event! If you haven't been yet, you need to go! You don't want to miss it!

Great experience, lots of animals. Make sure to bring quarters and pennies for the penny press! They make great cheap souvenirs. The price could be a little cheaper but its okay.

The Indy Zoo is awesome. And Christmas at the zoo is spectacular.

Awesome. Small for such a major zoo, a full tour seeing every attraction should take an average group 4-5 hours - but the quality of those attractions makes up for that. The zoo seems genuinely targeted towards conservation efforts, making it something of an oddity in the middle of a very conservative state

Love the indy zoo, spent the afternoon here and kids got to use the splash pad!

We always have a great time at this zoo. The atmosphere is clean and the journey to each exhibit is not to far from the next. We miss the petting zoo, this was our absolute favorite and we would love to see this come back. I recommend the Indianpolis Zoo.
