Here is the history of our college.
Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur owes its origin to the erstwhile Bengal Engineering College, the history of which goes to the nineteenth century when industries in the sense we understand today, were practically absent. Prompted by the idea of meeting requirement of trained engineering personnel for the Public Works Department, the then council of Education, Bengal, decided to open Civil Engineering classes and a Professorship in Civil Engineering was created at Hindu College, Calcutta, in the year 1843-44. A College of Engineering was started by the name of Civil Engineering College on 24th November, 1856, in the premises of the Writers Building, Calcutta.

This is the second oldest college in India , with one the finest research work.
The college is around 150 arces.
The institute has a gymnasium, swimming pool, two grass grounds one for football and other for cricket.
It's has probably the best faculty in India specially for department of mining engineering.
The college had been platform for many great people and also various famous engineers.
It would be lot helpful for student aspiring to do research.
The entrance process is by jee main.

The campus is in horrible state. There are tall grasses everywhere. It seems that the directors are not at all taking any interest in the cosmetic scenery which albeit is the easiest part, leave aside the standards of education here. The student count is reportedly dwindling every year but the leadership is non chalant! What a shame!!

Best Campus on the bank of river Hoogly and near the Botanical garden. The natural lakes add to beauty of campus. Lot of scope for making the campus smart and the best.

One of the finest engineering colleges of the country. Probably the best CFTI(Centrally Funded Technical Institute) of the country. The experience is really worth remembering. Fantastic Infrastructure with all modern facilities and excellent faculty with cooperative staff memebers.

It was great being here. Today was my last day at the college and I just left it behind and this question Popups on my screen ,I am literally crying missing those golden days. I actually don't want to leave but woh kahte hai nn kahin pahuchne ke lie kahi see nikalna padta hai,thats happening right now. Overall it was a lifetime memory which I will carry for my time being.

A heritage institution previously under State Government but now a Central Government university.I read about IIEST(previously Bengal Engineering & Science University,Shibpur) in media & newspapers as its reputation has had gone into doldrums then in the years 2001-2010.
But (God willing not to say) after Dr.Ajoy Kumar Roy had taken over the reins the institute has come of its age and tried to shed all the black days of its past.
Though during the last stage of CPI(M) years it got involved in a State Government agency's recruitment scam it still has some of the same (heritage ? ) faculty specimens who were responsible for the bloody fiasco.IIEST still retains staff from political organisations.

But if you are genuinely interested in carrying out yours academic matters, then at the end of the day I feel that nothing matters in establishing your credentials in the future, standing on IIEST's shoulders.

Also it should be the motto of every students to pursue their dreams with a positive attitude and leave a ever-lasting footprint for others to tread on.

Definitely among the top 10 engineering colleges in India, but certain aspects are repelling. Marks is mostly given according to face value which is loathsome.
