Every trip to Florida I make sure I go here for their grouper sandwich and keylime pie, outstanding!
Food is good. Too many mosquitoes and kind of dirty looking. Didnt feel comfortable enough to use the bathroom at this place. Needs repairs on certain things.
Atmosphere was pretty cool. We sat on the outdoor patio. I had the blackened grouper dinner. It was amazing!
Our server was great so nice and friendly she was older and had really blonde short hair and had just gotten a margarita spilt down her whole back and still smiling lol anyways the food sucked .. the crab wa rubbery and tasted like salt water and the kids pizza was super soggy! The boom boom shrimp was yummy and the chowder was okay. Sat time I was here the lobster ravioli sucked too so I'm def done giving this place a try but the server was very nice!
Great view from second floor balcony. Good food and service
The views are breathtaking, food was good, staff is always polite
My husband and I had a lovely time here! I got the grouper and lobster and he got the grouper and crab cake specials. They were both delicious! Perfect asparagus as a side, great view and drink prices! Amanda, our server was the best and gave us awesome info about what to see, do and get around. We can t wait to come back!
Came here after a nice sunrise walk on the beach. Ordered an omelet and a side of breakfast potatoes & Toast. Price was very affordable, the food was very delicious, the portion size was perfect and the chef was nice enough to come outside to meet the customer. I sat outside to enjoy the morning come to life while eating my breakfast. Waitress was excellent at keeping my drink full. Will definitely return to this restaurant.
Great place. Indy driver Dan Wheldon favorate bar. RIP
Friendly service. Food portions were good. Price was good.
Good fresh salads and wonderful peel and eat shrimp. Service was good too.
Service was good, friendly people. Atmosphere and location were great. Food was mediocre at best. Greasey, over done and old for the most part. The "market price" grouper was obviously yesterday's, the steak was cooked to oblivion along with the portabello mushroom crab cake and the gator bites were very old. However the chop salad was quite good. I've only been here for a day so I don't know about the other options in the area this was within walking distance of where I'm staying but I have to believe there are a lot of better options!
We love this place! On vacation for one week and came here twice! Very friendly staff, great food and great beach view! Ask for Amanda...she s the best!!!!
Much different than I remembered. Sub par food and service. It used to be so fun and vibrant here. What happened to the William Tell overture at sunset?? One star is for the view of the sunset and the other star is because the second time my shrimp came out it was actually hot. Hate to say.... I don't think I'll return unless someone breaths new life into this place.
Really expensive for low quality food. Slow service. Not impressed I could have gotten better food from the north beach.
My sister and I went here for lunch and we both had a grouper sandwich all I can say it was awesome and I'm sure we will be back!
Nice food if you don't mind sweating while you eat. Victorian restaurant with Victorian a/c. Asked for fan to be turned on, didn't work. No places inside to move to was told when I asked to be relocated.
Well being in the automotive field and having to deal with treating customers like I feel i would want to be treated I expected to get great service. We went there as my late grandmother lived on 6th ave south around corner. I picked up my brother and wanted to have a nice day driving the beaches and thought it would good to try a good place to eat on the beach and we called a few and since we took our pets with us, called around to find a pet-friendly restaurant, We called the Hurricane Restaurant and they said that's awesome you picked us, the Hurricane Restaurant has a pet-friendly dining on the 2nd floor with a good view of the beach. Well being tired from driving in the rain all day we were ready to sit down and eat. The waitress greeted us and said here are one of 3 tables you can sit with your Dogs, I said really we were told the whole 2nd floor was pet-friendly, she said sorry you have one of these 3 tables. There was no beach view unless you call looking over trees to see the gulf the beach, It was a small area barely big enough for the 3 tables, really that's the way you treat customers, The food was so so and very small portions and a lot of the fish was listed at Market price and it was like pulling teeth to get a price.
I will never go to the Hurricane Restaurant again,. We had eaten at Rum Fish last year and loved the food and service.and wish they were pet- friendly for sure..Joel Curto
Greasy, fried seafood. Fine, if that's what you're looking for. Don't bother with the calamari...they're somehow shaped like fish sticks? I've never had calamari that far removed from the normal presentation, but I can't say I was a fan. Nothing else was memorable.
We were there December 12 2020 anniversary it was great. Very nice place. I love that area.
Horrible service. Staff has no idea of what they are doing. Wait for food was unacceptable. Came here 9 years ago for engagement dinner and was fantastic. Need to pick a new special place. Don't waste your time and money here.
Our waitress was soooo sweet. We watched the sun set on the roof top and enjoyed yummy frozen drinks
Great grouper sandwich and awesome views from the rooftop deck.
Not as good as past years I've been there and very overpriced.
Waited 8 minutes at hostess stand. Was not greeted. We left. Read other reviews. There is a problem here that is systemic( bad things happening over and over). Won't be back.
Good food. Even though it was during Corona season, had a nice atmosphere, and the view is marvelous
We ordered a Christmas special dinner which consisted of prime rib, mashed potatoes and chef's vegetables. We also ordered two frozen Margaritas.
When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised at the restaurant's Appearance. We had driven for over an hour to come to this restaurant and were really looking forward to a nice meal.
Unfortunately we were disappointed to say that the prime rib was fried and not presented like a regular prime rib would be. The vegetables were cold but the mashed potatoes were hot. Our one Margarita was poured into a broken plastic glass which leaked all over the table and when we showed it to the waitress she gave us a new plastic cup which she poured the remainder of the frozen ice in to the new cup. In doing so, the new cup only held ice and no Margarita. Although our waitress was polite we felt that she should have removed the leaking drink and brought a new Margarita. Being Christmas Day, we did not want to grieve her as she was quite busy and doing the best she could. It would have been nice if the cost of one of the Margaritas had been deducted from our bill. We cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. We give one star for the restaurant's appearance.
This was our first visit and it was a great experience. We waited on the roof top for our table, taking in the sunset over the Gulf. And the meal we had (grouper) was excellent as was the service. It is now definitely on our list of venues to frequent and we will be back.
Waited over 40 minutes for food. It was okay, the server was nice.
Nice atmosphere across from the beach. Food was good, but a bit bland, but the smoked fish spread was awesome. Drinks were a little thin. Indoor and outdoor dining available.
Great service good atmosphere excellent food reasonable prices!
Go for the crab cakes, stay for a drink in the sundeck bar.
Great food. The grouper is to die for. Sat outside on the second floor with water view.
Got some type of fish served as supposed alligator bites . As a Floridian, it was clearly evident that it was NOT gator. Waiter admitted it was clearly a white fish and did not charge us for it. One good thing.... Lobster ravioli was
fairly good. It was either lobster (or crab) inside the ravioli. BUT...the sauce was the SUPPOSED crab & lobster bisque that I sampled a cup of as an appetizer. It was literally, THE EXACT SAME BISQUE just dumped on top of the ravioli. And finally, my friend wanted to order the Key lime pie for dessert. There was this very awkward green drizzle over top of it. It looked like Nickelodeon-colored slime. When I asked the waiter how they made it he said that it was just a flavoring agent they squeeze out of a bottle. The service & the view was phenomenal. But that is about the extent of the positive comments that I can make. I ll probably never go back or recommend this place to anyone unless it s majorly overhauled in the distant future.
Free parking? Didn t see that. Food was pretty good, but service was missing. Our server must have been having a bad day. Couldn t crack a smile once. Market pricing on Grouper? Really?. Again, food was good. I just hate leaving a tip for a server who doesn t give a damn.......
The seafood was not fresh. At 10pm Saturday night they were closing up around us, and made us feel like we needed to leave. Lastly, they serve Moscow Mules without a copper cup:)
Best Grouper I have ever tasted in my life. The voodoo buckets (alcoholic drinks) were amazing. We will definitely be back
This rating is due to a couple of factors. With 5+ servers on in a non-busy period we had a 15 minute wait for drink orders, where we then placed drink and food orders. It then took another 45 to 55 minutes for the order to come out and it was cold for some of the plates or rewarmed for others. The server was not apologetic or even willing to say anything more than "it'll be right out". Poor experience, poor customer service, and poor handling of the situation.
Horrible food, mediocre service.....A definite tourist trap. If you would like to watch the sunset from the roof terrace, order take out food on the second floor, wait 45 minutes, pick it up on the second floor and walk it, yourself, to the third floor and eat out of a plastic bag with plastic forks. I ordered the Grouper meal and it was inedible. Tough, rubbery, horrible. Told the bartender and they offered another plate. Ordered Alaskan King Crab Legs....no cracker available. Hostesses yelling at each other two floors apart. Place was half empty, but no service to the third floor. Basically playing off the sunset and you won t come back anyway. Most items on the menu are listed at Market Price so they can charge as they wish. My advice....get a good meal elsewhere and walk on the beach for sunset.
No service on a Saturday night. Waited 25 minutes and got seated to no server. After 15 minutes of no service we got up and left. Staff couldn't care less.
Wasn't really happy with the service but the food was okay but I've been going there since I was a kid and things sure do change
went for Thanksgiving with another couple and the worst place I have been in years. We have been there before and thought it would be great for the holiday, wrong. had a 4pm res. and were told it would be 45-60 min wait the same thing they told people with no res. I was told res are advised not manditory then sat at bar for a little over an hr and the to our table, 20 min later our waiter came then about another 20 mins our food. what a joke, all three of us had the turkey dinner 1 small slice of turkey a peice and one looked like a deli slice, when asked for a larger peice waiter had to get approval. the I ordered a togo turkey dinner for my wife that was home sick. to my suprise the waiter brought the meal another 20 mins later and advised me they were out of gravey, what a great resturant! there were still people waiting for their tables so happy thanksgiving never again at the Hurricane for anything.
Delicious and exceptionally well priced Sunday brunch. Do yourself a favor and get the ultimate Bloody. Plenty of salad on top and a good lightly spiced mix.
Honestly, one star is even too high for this establishment. Upon arriving our server was polite and courteous, little did we know we would not see him again for half an hour after placing our order. The water even tasted unclean like the tap hasn't been cleaned in many months. Despite the awful service and it taking well over half an hour to receive a sandwich, I thought the food was perhaps the redeeming quality. Boy was I mistaken. I don't know if I've ever had a more dissappointing sandwich. From the bland unappealing taste with dirty water to wash it down with, I almost felt sick leaving. Fortunately we did not bother waiting on the server to get our ticket and get out of there. Save your time and money. Just go nextdoor or eat before getting out. This place is terrible!
Spent a couple hours on the roof top beautiful weather and views. I wish they had more covered areas for those of us who can't be in the sun. We were in the covered space by the AC area. Our appetizer and drinks were good.
Great food. We had the seafood platter and the grouper was wonderful. Crab cake was good. We had onion rings for our side since my wife and I shared the meal. Shrimp and onion rings were both great as well. We had a great meal and great service.
Great service and the food was delicious. Reasonable prices and a beautiful location on the beach
We escaped into this little paradise because of the rain on the beach. Our server Tony was super friendly and helped us make our selections off the menu. Our food was fresh and delicious. We had the Grouper Paradise and the boom boom shrimp. As an out-of-towner, you gamble on a place like this and I would definitely say JACKPOT.
We went to the Hurricane last night and it was one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. The service was slow, the server came back ~10 minutes after we told him we were ready to place our orders, the staff (manager?) was rude when I asked if one of our orders (kids meal) was still on its way. On top of all that, the food was sub-par. We'd heard this place was good but apparently it's not as good as it used to be. Sadly, we had family visiting from out of town and this was the horrible experience they had while visiting.
Amazing food, and great service. Don't miss the view on the roof top during sunset!
Been through its share of....HURRICANES!
...been there since I was a kid (1980ish)
AT LEAST THAT LONG....a friend worked there for years as server. OUTDOORS DINING
Don't miss this excellent food at a fair
price coupled with great atmosphere and
service .
A very historic restaurant, has a gorgeous view of the beach, with indoor and outdoor seating areas. Food was very good, but overpriced for the portions compared to other restaurants in the area. Felt more oriented to adults than to families with kids. Nice place to visit for the atmosphere and area history.
We cannot speak highly enough of this restaurant! My dad and I came down to spring training, I don t know, about 10 years ago for the first time and stumbled upon on Hurricane on our last night looking for a place to eat. We ve been back every year since, now with my Mom and husband! It was great then and it s great now. Highly recommend!! Amazing food, atmosphere, and wait staff!
Great food and great atmosphere! Fantastic key lime pie
This place was amazing. The food was great, our server was wonderful and the sunset views made it and unforgettable experience. I would highly recommend it.
Good food good service. Need to serve food on the roof deck
The view is the only thing worth going for. The whole place needs an update. The bathrooms are gross and the place seems dirty in general. The elevator was broken, which I understand things happen, but it was hard watching an elderly man struggle to go up the stairs. The bartenders were not wearing masks so I can only assume the kitchen staff wasn't wearing them either. So, we had 2 drinks and left.
Half pound grouper sandwich! I was sold when I saw it on my plate, tasted fantastic, took a little while but aside from that a great time!
I am local and this is where we eat drink and be merry!
One of the best places in Pinellas County to catch the sunset, at the beach, from a rooftop.
I live and work here. (Healthcare). We come here a lot....and trying to give The Hurricane another chance. It s VERY understaffed. Bartender on upper deck should NOT have to work alone at sunset. Upstairs manager was rude. We saw people walk away from the bar due to the long line. We are locals and we won t be returning anytime soon.
Sort of awkward vibe but the waitress was nice. They recently stopped carrying straws so my kid couldn't drink out of her cup and all our drinks settled to the bottom of the glass..the alcohol was light for the price and I'm not even much of a drinker, it just tasted like barely carbonated soda water in my mojito.
The costumer service here is the worst I ve seen it took them like ten minutes to seat us and only about 6 seats has people at them, they came out like 5 times before me and another family got seated and did not say a word to us or look at us. And our waiter messed up on our drink orders and our food
