Within last 2 months, utilized the Society for their low cost neuter, chip, rabies service for a kitty dumped outside my home. There were a lot of other pets showing up for this wonderful service. All were treated with care, compassion and efficiency. Volunteers and staff alike were helpful and efficient. I know many of the volunteers that work tirelessly for this organization, who are there countless hours, who foster animals to make them more adoptable. I laud their efforts. My Grandmother and her sisters were founding members of what used to be called the Animal Rescue League, now Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. Then, as now, the need is overwhelming at times, the resources, never enough, those working in the trenches never appreciated enough. Animals spark our emotions, let's use that emotion for building up not tearing down. Walk a mile in their shoes, adopt or foster or donate.

Animal Shelters are a dirty business. They house a...

Animal Shelters are a dirty business. They house abandoned animals. The animals arrive at the shelter in many ways. Their owners have died and there is no one to take the beloved pets; government animal control agencies deliver them from the public streets; the animal is too sick and needs to be euthanized but the owner can t afford to pay a veterinarian; they have been abused and removed from the person or persons who have them involved in dogfighting rings or just sick individuals who enjoy the torment they can inflict on a poor helpless animal.
Put yourself in the shoes of a person working at a shelter. These animals cannot talk. They are scared, some are sick and in pain. They come in complete strangers, facing complete strangers. They need to be bathed, fed and cared for on a daily basis. Their cages have to been cleaned on a daily basis. It is a never-ending task. They desperately need help. Some are beyond help and some are vicious.
The shelters are not large enough to house the demand. What do you do when animal control brings you five dogs that have been mauled in a dogfight? What do you do when someone brings you a dog suffering from cancer and needs to be put out of his or her pain? What do you do when a basket of kittens is brought in with their paws cut off by a ten-year-old little boy whose mother says, Boys will be boys. ? What do you do to control the unadoptable animal that is facing a life of living in a cage with no hope for adoption?
Let me offer the answer. You thank God every day that you have an animal shelter with dedicated employees and volunteers that face the heartbreak and tears because of their love for animals and the reward they get in seeing the face of a family adopting their first pet and a little girl having her first little kitten as a birthday present. Out of this dirty business does come some joy and laughter.
The so-called no kill shelters don t exactly paint a clear picture of themselves. Ask them if they will accept the junk yard dogs brought in by animal control. Ask them if they are willing to take the basket of kittens with no paws. The answer is no, they will not. They will only take animals that are adoptable. The rest they send to the very organization they criticize and condemn the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. The HSTC never says no.

Martin County is fortunate to have the HSTC, with gladiator Frank Valente, at the helm. His team at the shelter is dedicated to one cause and one cause only caring for God s creatures that have been placed in horrible situations. These individuals are a most caring group with hearts as big as the sky. Without them, Martin County would have a difficult time handling the problems they undertake every day.
Since 1996, I have been a resident of Martin County. I am only too aware of the problems facing us in Martin County. The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast is not a problem, but is indeed one of our blessings.

Amazing place!! There are so many animals. Please consider adopting before buying. Of course there are cats and dogs but there are also rabbits, gerbils, and other small animals. Theres a nice park with pond, waterfall and trees. We had gone to adapt a kitten and went home with a wonderful puppy too. Theyre so friendly. The process was quick and easy too.

They are very kind there as well as very busy. I could never get an appointment fast enough to get the dog I wanted. I do have to admit however that I did find one dog that I wanted there, and because I delayed in taking him He was gone when I went back to pick him up! That's when I learned not to procrastinate!

After having been a consistent donor to the HSTC for many years now, I have come to know the great work that this quality organization does.
Recently I had the pleasure of helping an elderly friend of mine adopt an "elder" cat from the HSTC. What a caring and patient staff!! It took awhile for my friend to become sure of her choice and the staff was just precious in their attitude towards my friend. She took home a cat that many would pass by as to old yet this female cat was perfect for my friend. This convinced me all the more to continue generous support to this excellent organization!

I brought my mother-in-law and her 18 year old Chihuahua for an appointment. Everybody was super kind and understanding. I was there to support her in putting her dog to sleep as her health was not good. It was my first time and hers as well. We were both upset and the girls at the front desk were very supportive and asked if we needed any water and offered us tissues. Filled out the paperwork went in the back and after a long walk down the hall went into a room. Got to say our goodbyes. I can't say thank you enough for having something affordable for my mother-in-law because she doesn't have the money for a vet at the moment so she was able to help her dog from suffering any longer. We were quoted between three and four hundred dollars from about six other vets. Due to some Financial hardships we were not able to come up with that money. They only charged us $25. wish we found them sooner because they we're so much better than we could have imagined. The pet Garden is beautiful as well. They even sent a sympathy card with a paw print from her dog. It was sweet. Highly recommend this place.

Almost 10 years ago I walked into the HSTC looking for a "buddy". I was met at the desk by wonderful volunteers and staff that answered my questions and helped me to find my fur-ever friend, Odie. Since adopting Odie, I have been happy to attend and volunteer at events that promoted the great works of the HSTC. Thank you, Frank and staff for all you do!

One of the nicest facilities for adoption my husband and I have ever been to. Staff is great and it is one of the cleanest adoption places we have been to. They have a beautiful park for the dogs to walk in and the kennels were spotless.

I got my cat, Kissy, from the Humane Society a few months after our other cat had passed on at 11 years of age. They made the process super easy and Kissy is the most amazing cat ever. Honestly, my friends that absolutely despise cats love him. Ironically, I also volunteered for them a few years later and had a great experience. If you live in Martin County and want to adopt a pet, please give them a look, I'm certain you'll find yourself a forever friend.

The workers are friendly and helpful, however the place looks a little run down and uninviting. Could use some sprucing up to make it more appealing. Kennel had a bad dog odor, with most dogs looking mopey and in need of TLC and a bath. Some kennels had blankets for the concrete floor however blankets needed to be washed or replaced. You leave saddened by what you've observed and not excited about adoption.

We drove over a total of 2 HOURS to get to this clinic because of good reviews and it was supposed to be 50 dollars for a neuter and microchip for my rabbit. I was told they could microchip him, but when I got there they said they couldn't. Well that was one of the huge reasons I went here. I cannot afford another 75 dollars to go somewhere and microchip. The people in the neuter clinic yelled at the customers in front of us because it was one person at a time, but they didnt know. There is no need to yell. The woman on the phone was rude to my friend to pick up my fur baby. It's a long drive, and we are full time workers. We arw trying to get there as soon as possible. We know he is in pain, but it's the best for him. I am super disappointed

As a professional caregiver for animals (I own the Bark Park here in Stuart) I can say hand on heart that every single experience I've had personally with the HSTC has been a good one. They take in animals that no other shelter will take and they exhaust ALL options for adoption before having to resort to HUMANE euthanasia.

They have always had my full support and will continue to.

Dog got out while visiting friends in Martin county. Martin county Animal control picked her up, and apparently Martin county doesn't have a dog shelter. Dog had a tag with our phone #. Two hours later we are at the Humane Society in Stuart.they insist that we pay for a micro chip we can't afford. The woman at desk is snotty, says that she'll keep the dog another DAY and we'll never a get the dog back for any money! She taunted my daughter said she was gonna make sure she adopted it out! Nasty woman, had my daughter in tears! This is not in my understanding, a Government agency. So by what authority can they keep someones PROPERTY and insist that you pay for something you don't want or can't afford? I understand recouping the BOARDING fee for the 2 hours the dog was held there. I 'm sure there is overhead running this place. But the microchipping is a FORCED SALE based on their possesion of property they know is owned by someone else. The dog was spayed and had all her shots, and a tag with our phone number.

I have supported the Treasure Coast Humane Society for many years under the mistaken assumption that it is a "NO KILL" shelter!. I guess I was ignorant of what their "open door policy" was. I was shocked to discover that they have euthanized animals for years and in an INHUMANE manner. Apparently the open door policy means they will take animals from any area and euthanize them if they deem necessary. Wake up donors and make sure you know who you are donating to. THIS IS NOT A NO KILL SHELTER! I wonder how many pet owners surrendered their pets believing they would be adopted to loving homes and not in danger of euthanization? This realization certainly overshadows the good work the humane society does. So sad.

Great volunteers and staff! I haven't been witness to the goings on in the back, but the adoption area...Wow! You could eat off the floor. The dogs and cats to be adopted are housed in such immaculate conditions. I love how active the organization is in the community with their foster programs and education programs. Personally, I love bringing treats and cat food. I'm on a budget so I get a lot of satisfaction out of giving an actual food item. It makes sense that they interact with the public for these items too, as it frees the budget to pay the doctors and staff for their hard work and expertise.

Katie and I (dad) visited yesterday. We fell in love with Broward the bunny. We were told that all the rabbits except one were being sent to another humane society. I offered to pay more for Broward as they said he was vet cleared for transfer. My request was denied. Called today to ask where Broward was being sent. I was told he was being transferred and already has a home. I have adopted in the past and rescued a rabbit previously. I will not support or patronize TC Humane Society. Do not bring your children to this location. They will leave heartbroken despite your best intentions.

I brought my min pin here for their spay and neuter program. I made an appointment on the phone and was able to get an appointment the next day. The staff was very friendly when I dropped him off. And in the main office, the girls were pleasant and helpful. In the afternoon when I went back to pick up my pet, the staff was telling me how funny my dog was and was talking to them. Lol. Great experience here!

I too have had some pretty bad interactions with the staff. I'm sure they do good work, but when a single adult with a lovely home comes in to adopt a cat and they make it sooo unpleasant that you leave. That's bad! I could understand if I had had a complaint of animal abuse. But I've never been in trouble with the law period! Well....something's wrong. Animals are being put to sleep, they should be able to get some help that WANT these animals adopted out. Shamefull
Please contact the Humane Society of the United States with your comments, maybe something will be done.

I m fostering a kitten from here and I was told she was in perfect health and that I just needed to heal her wound. I have my own cat and I kept them separated for the 1st week. After that week that kitten apparently had tapeworms and got my my cat sick with it. Today they told me that it was my fault although they never mentioned her about having tapeworms, you guys didn t care well for this kitten. I value honesty and I love humane society but this disgusts me. Treat your cats better and don t let fosters have to foster a cat without them knowing they have a certain sickness.

Because of the Humane Society, many animals have found their forever homes. The work they do on a daily basis to care for and find homes for the animals is second to none. I have many friends who have adopted their four legged family members from the Humane Society and speak very highly of the organization and the people who work there. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Thank you to everyone at the Humane Society for all you do for the animals and the love and care you give to them until they find their forever homes... Keep up the GREAT work... and Thank You...

I enjoy going to this place to see which adoptions will be my next one. My adoption of my companion animal has helped me out tremendously and I couldn't believe anyone would turn in such a sweet loving dog. I can say that I got lucky and got there at the right time. This place is always clean and you can always see the animals, the staff are pretty attentive and busy taking care of humans and animals. I recommend getting a shelter animal than getting an animal mill pet. They Spay/Neuter your pet along with a microchip implant so they can be tracked down if found else where, all included in your adoption price. They have specials for adopting senior pets and if you are a senior you get a special discount as well (when I last looked on their website, it might have changed). I hope everyone goes to adopt their next "best furiend!"

About Humane Society of the Treasure Coast

The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC) is a non-profit organization that has been serving Martin County, Florida since 1955. It is the only open-access, no-kill animal welfare organization in the area. The HSTC's mission is to provide compassionate care and shelter to animals in need, promote responsible pet ownership, and reduce pet overpopulation through education and spay/neuter programs.

As an open-access shelter, HSTC accepts all animals regardless of their health condition, age, temperament or breed. This means that they do not turn away any animal in need of help. They provide medical care for sick or injured animals and work tirelessly to find loving homes for them.

The HSTC offers a wide range of services to the community including adoption services, low-cost spay/neuter programs for cats and dogs, vaccination clinics, microchipping services as well as educational programs on responsible pet ownership. They also have a foster program where volunteers can take care of animals until they are ready for adoption.

One unique aspect of HSTC is their partnership with local businesses through their "Paws & Claws" program. This program allows businesses to sponsor an animal at the shelter by providing financial support for its care until it finds a forever home.

In addition to their animal welfare efforts within Martin County, HSTC also provides disaster relief assistance during hurricanes or other natural disasters affecting pets and their owners in surrounding areas.

HSTC relies heavily on donations from individuals and businesses within the community to continue providing these vital services. They have several fundraising events throughout the year such as "Mutt March", "Critter Run", "Bark in the Park" among others which help raise funds while bringing awareness about their cause.

Overall, The Humane Society of Treasure Coast plays an important role in promoting animal welfare within Martin County by providing compassionate care for homeless pets while educating people about responsible pet ownership practices. Their commitment towards creating a better world for our furry friends makes them stand out among other organizations working towards similar goals.
