Human Rights Law Network, Delhi: Empowering the Marginalized through Legal Aid

The Socio-Legal Information Centre (SLIC) is a part of the Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), a non-profit organization that provides legal aid and advocacy to marginalized communities in India. HRLN was founded in 1989 by a group of lawyers and social activists who were committed to promoting human rights and social justice.

Over the years, HRLN has grown into one of India's largest networks of lawyers and activists, with offices in over 25 states. The organization's mission is to empower marginalized communities by providing them with access to legal services, information, and resources.

SLIC is one of HRLN's flagship programs that focuses on providing socio-legal support to vulnerable groups such as women, children, Dalits, Adivasis, refugees, prisoners, persons with disabilities (PWDs), sexual minorities and other marginalized sections. SLIC operates through its network of legal aid clinics across India which provide free legal assistance to those who cannot afford it.

The SLIC team comprises experienced lawyers who specialize in various fields such as human rights law, criminal law, family law etc. They work closely with grassroots organizations and community leaders to identify cases where legal intervention can make a difference. The organization has been at the forefront of efforts to rescue victims from trafficking networks across India. It provides shelter homes for rescued victims where they receive medical care as well as counseling services.

Another area where SLIC has been active is in advocating for the rights of PWDs. The organization works towards ensuring that PWDs have access to education facilities without discrimination or barriers; it also advocates for their right to employment opportunities on an equal basis with others.

SLIC also runs campaigns against child labor practices; it works towards creating awareness among parents about sending their children for education instead of making them work at an early age.

In addition to its direct interventions through legal aid clinics across India; SLIC engages actively in policy advocacy at national level by submitting recommendations on draft laws related issues concerning human rights violations or marginalization faced by vulnerable groups like women or LGBTQ+ people etc.,
