The houston zoo is a great place to spend time with family . The have a place for children to get wet and cool off . Plus a giant play area. There prices for beverages and food are high but thats how they support the park. You can always wait and suppirt one of the smaller concession stands outside the park. They are independently owned and have super cheap prices for ice cream, chips , sodas , and water. Outside of gate 10 or the main entrance

Houston Zoo is clean, organized and you can see the animal got a real good care. This is a nice place to educate children or even to get a good exercise for walking around while seeing cool animals!

We rented a wagon for two kids because I knew this zoo is flat. It is not huge but has all popular animals kids love to see. Their bird collection is really colorful and eye catching. Unfortunately, shoebill stork was relocated in early April, so we missed it. I felt like you can really get close to animals in this zoo. But, this also means some of animals might need bigger space to move around. Kids were really happy on the wagon (no complaint, of course). Spring time in Houston could not be more pleasant like this.

Lot of new improvements being done. But nothing that restricts the enjoyment of the rest of the zoo. Today was a cold day..but there was a lot of families with lots of children of all ages .... Lot of animals were inside from the cold. But the ones out put on the show can't wait to come back during a warmer time....

Awesome I've been to other zoo's but always left sad because the animals hardly had water and if they had it looked dirty animals need to look like this ones healthy and happy. It was great there was plenty of trees, drinking water and hand sanitizer for everybody in a good distance COME U WILL ENJOY

AMAZING! I love this zoo so much. We have a membership and come here often. My toddler loves riding the train and then we go to the zoo. The habitats have been improved so much over the years and the walkways are very shaded and have lots of beautiful plants and flowers. Parking is usually pretty good during the weekdays.

I LOVE the Houston Zoo! I would give it 10 stars if I could! I would suggest getting an annual membership. It pays for itself in 2 visits. And there are several places to eat and cool down while you visit. The times with the keepers are always very informative! If you visit often, it's fun to check on the growth of the baby animals there.

The whole family loved it. We spent 4 hrs there and didn't get to see everything. We only left because it started raining. I loved the fact that they had designated "chill zones" where they had more animal display areas and were placed every so often so you could cool off because you know this Texas heat in the summer is a killer!!! We will definitely visit again!

We got to bring our four year old daughter today to the zoo and she enjoyed it very much. I think the only thing we did not like is that most of the exhibits were close. We wanted to see the Giraffes , Ostrich, Zebras , Gorillas , and more but most of the fun big ones were not being exhibit because they were doing some kind of construction... Ohhhh and parking is horrible! But other than that we will definitely be coming back next time so we can enjoy of this animals that we did not get to enjoy this time. Also, like that we are able to bring our own food and drinks into the zoo and they have picnic tables out there for us.

***Once we come back closer to the summer I hope I get to come back here and change my review to a five star.***

I remember going here as a kid and it looked like the animals were in prison (concrete floors, metal bars). The animals are now in much larger cages with more natural barriers - for me, the Houston Zoo's animal enclosures and signage rivals the San Diego and Smithsonian's National Zoo. Nice kids area with 3 playground areas, petting zoo, carousel, and my kids favorite - the Swap Shop. You can bring in natural items (bones, shells, rocks, large pine cones, etc) for points and trade for items other kids have brought in. My kids always want to go in (even when they haven't got anything) to see what's there, and I always have to drag them out. The staff is always friendly and informative (inside the Swap Shop and out). BTW, if you're a local the Zoo Membership pays for itself in 1.5 visits. You can bring your own food in.

I was sad to find several of the exhibits closed. I understand the need for refreshing and upadting, but to change so many on a row at once made for a disappointing trip. Having been to the zoo before I would not recommend a trip in early February.

I've been to many Zoo's in Texas and the Houston Zoo was always the best regarding exibits, animal varieties and condition of exibits, animals and the zoo grounds in general. This time, I left feeling very disappointed.

I've been to the Houston zoo many times over the last 20 years and it was always my favorite zoo. This time was the first for my 3 year old grandson and I was so excited to take him. It was rather drab and disappointing. It didn't seem to be as well kept. The Zoo staff wasn't as friendly or enthusiatic either. My grandson enjoyed the tain ride around the park more than the Zoo itself.

I'm willing to give it another try in the future. I can't say it's not worth making a day of it for those who really enjoy going to the zoo. The Elephant exibit was great and the primates, and sea lions are always fun but beyond that, I think there are other zoo's in Texas that are much better these days.

I remember when the zoo was free to get in, I understand that feeding and caring for animals can be very expensive but prices are crazy high. Food prices totally not worth it but on the bright side, you can bring your own. If you are on a budget, definitely bring your own. Other than the prices, my kids and I had a blast.

Absolutely wonderful place to visit with kids of all ages. The animals are in a natural habitat setting and are obviously well taken care of. The park is clean and family friendly. Great way to enjoy nature in a big city.

My family and I made a trip to Houston specifically to visit the zoo. We were super excited to visit but when we got there we were disappointed. About 50% of the zoo s exhibits were closed and no where on the website did it say anything about that. Had we known we wouldn t have come. It was a waste of money. Also, we didn t realize we were walking towards the wrong direction and one of the workers came up to us to tell us this and was super rude for no reason. This is how it went
*my family and i walking in wrong direction*
*she approaches us*
Her: you re going the wrong way.
My brother: oh really?
*we re about to turn around to go the other direction
Her: TURN AROUND AND GO THE OTHER WAY.
Us: okay??
There was literally no reason for her to be this way with us and it really bothered us for the rest of the trip.

I love the Christmas lights so I went to see them for my birthday lol but the attendant at the front let us know there was heavy rain so some of them weren't on and let us go in and gave us vouchers to come back and see the full display when they're back on so I'm excited to come but we still had a great time

It was not what I was expecting after all the years it's been since I'd last been. The experience was very different and limited due to social distancing. The animals that we were allowed to visit were hot and unbothered lol I think they should have had a warning up cause I know I wasnt the only one expecting to see more. Needless to say the staff was friendly and helpful.

What can i say. It's the zoo. It's always a blast. Clean park with friendly staff. Their new wetlands exhibit was a bit underwhelming but still a great addition. Very well layed out. We love the reptiles and the elephants. I also loved the christmas light show they have, but it seems quite stressful to the animals, so I do not plan on returning for that. Otherwise it is a great stop. Buy the annual pass if you plan on going more than once in a calendar year.

Luckily we went and used the military discount WHICH made up what they lacked . It's next to Herman park so parking kinda sucks and can get confusing They were missing a handful of animals. They're under construction. Bears were hibernating. Big cats kept pacing bc they havent eaten.

We are members of the zoo, and my family of 5 visit very often. My kids love the animals. The design of the zoo is very easy to learn and navigate. The new eating facility and crocodile exhibit are fascinating. I love the kids area as well, allows the kids to run and play!

Who doesn t love the zoo? The Houston zoo has a lot to see. While it s not my favorite I do enjoy going there. Whatever you do though, do NOT go in the middle of the summer. The heat just makes the visit miserable. Go on a beautiful day and you will love it. It s not cheap for a whole family, but what zoo is?

My family had a great time at the Houston Zoo. We especially enjoyed the opportunity to feed lettuce leaves to the giraffes. The photographer managed to snap a photo of the exact moment when a giraffe licked my infant daughter s hand during the feeding, which I thought was hilarious. We also enjoyed watching the elephants get bathed. Other highlights included petting some very friendly goats and watching the lions take a cat nap. We also have fond memories of the free-roaming peacocks. Some of the zoo was closed for renovation while we were there in February 2018. Overall, I really recommend the Houston Zoo if you are visiting Houston and looking for something to do with the family.

The Houston Zoo is one of the best zoo's in the country. It has many great exhibits with a large variety of animals. There are many opportunities to interact with the zoo staff and animals, with activites like the enrichment zone and zoo keeper talks for both children and adults. While already being a great experience the Houston zoo is constantly working on becoming a better place not just for its guest but it's animals, with many new exhibits are coming soon.
