The main pro of the hotel is the 3 and half feet pool on the 4th floor. The room was clean, the lobby have lemonade, coffees, beer and wine depending of the time of the day. These little attentions increase the sense that you are an important customer.

However, we asked a toddler bed and after 2 hours was still waiting. I had to call and they had none available so I had to fallback tons pack-and-play. My issue is the time and that once I did the steps to know what happen they came with towels... Yes they came with the wrong info and I had to once again loss my time.

Other than that, the parking at the hotel is 50$/day. This is stealing your customers, there is a 15$/day parking 3 blocks away. There is 8$/bottle of water in the room, again, this is shady business. I go I. Some Airbnb and the water bottles are free. 8$, really? I do not want to sleep in a shady convenient shop.

The area is great. Lots of restaurants around, I felt safe in the surrounding. I gave a good eating regardless of many room to improvements because I enjoyed my stay.

Very bad service!

Very bad service!
We booked a room with two queen beds and they did not get one with a king bed, they brought a small literal bed and only threw it in the room with a couple of sheets. The maid was not in two days. I do not recommend it. Good thing they cleaned

Overall, I was extremely happy with my stay. Hotel was clean, cute and seemed to function well. They had a happy hour every night and coffee every morning. My pup stayed for free and they sent bowls and a pillow up to the room for me. They did mess up on the bill, which is why it's 4 stars, not 5. But they did remedy it once I caught the error.

My wife and I spent our 6th wedding anniversary here last night, and we absolutely LOVED IT. The hotel staff was very insightful as to what attractions we should visit as well as restaurants. The SOAK Tub was absolutely amazing, and to top it off they left a complimentary bottle of champagne in our room. I highly recommend this hotel. A Special thanks to Lauren at the concierge desk who helped me get everything situated!

I stayed in the Master Suite with 2 friends. I'm giving it 3 stars, because the bed & pull-out bed were hard as jagged rocks. The pull-out sofa that I slept on felt like I was sleeping on the hardware - the mattress was pointless. So, in short, all of us slept horribly. I would definitely recommend bringing your own pillows, too. The ones they have are the cheapest pillows that result in neck cramps. One more thing to mention about the pull-out sofa: there was a mysterious dark stain the size of a football at the end of the mattress. The 3 of us were too disgusted to even come up with scenarios of what it could be. On the positive side, though, the deep soak tub was glorious, as was the restaurant, JSIX (for either room service or sit-down service). A JSIX breakfast is just amazingly delish!

My actual stay at Solamar was great. The room was wonderful, the service was good, the bathtub was HUGE, and i was really happy with the complimentary bikes they offered guests!

There were a few things that weren't fantastic, like the food we ordered from the restaurant as room service was sub par at best. Definetely not worth the price, but we only ordered once, so maybe it was just a flook, who knows, just our experience. Another thing was when i had first made the reservation, i told the person on the phone that i wanted a big bathtub, the one that was shown on the website, that was a big selling point and something i wasn't willing to compromise on. He put me in a suite (and i was under the assumption that all the suites had big bathtubs). It wasn't until a few weeks later when i was checking out their website and found the page with all the suites and rooms listed. The suite they had me in did not mention a big bathtub like all the other suites did, so i got worries and called to find out if my room had a big bathtub or not. i found out that it did not, and they didn't know why i was led to believe it did. BUT! The manager i spoke to fixed the situation by putting me in a corner spa room with the bathtub i was looking for. So, annoyed at the first person who just wanted to make a sale and put me in a more expensive room, but happy to have the problem fixed and taken care of.

Overall, i was very happy with my choice in hotels and would happily book a room again next time i need a place to stay.

Kimpton are always pleasant places to stay. The Solamar is no exception. Centrally located is the Gas Lamp, it has easy access to all downtown facilities. The hotel is clean, well maintained, nicely decorated and very comfortable. The staff are helpful without being pushy.

5/5 for our stay at the Kimpton!

5/5 for our stay at the Kimpton!

The roof top pool & bar on the 4th floor was a nice oasis in the middle of Gaslamp. It really made me feel like I was transported from the middle of the city to a private getaway.

The hotel gym is also on the 4th floor and had a few treadmills, weights and a basic cable/pulley machine. Together, this equipment is more than enough to keep you feeling active during your stay.

The complimentary morning coffee bar was a complete surprise but absolutely amazing. It was a full bar with a selection of coffee or hot coca with a variety of toppings and syrups to add to your coffee. I definitely didn't need to visit Starbucks!

I would stay again for sure!

Great location near bars, restaurants, Petco park, convention center and the waterfront. Pretty and inviting lobby where they host a free wine/beer happy hour every night. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice pool area, good WiFi and very dog friendly!

Bar staff kinda rude and the amenity fees were not explained properly. I paid 25 dollars a day for one cup of coffee and WiFi I didn t use. Only to have house keeping enter my room while I was undressed.

I get it, this place wants to be high brow but true quality is in stellar customer service and hospitality.

The service was amazing! Free beer and wine from 5-6pm. Cute black lab was wondering around the lobby was super well behaved and owned by the staff. The beds were comfy and room looked very modern and appealing. The staff was very friendly. Prices were higher, but the experience justified it.

My girlfriend and I have booked a room during her birthday October 2015. Once, we arrived at the hotel at the front desk we was assisted by Eric. Eric had provided exceptional and timely and helpful advice on what to do in San Diego far as tour spots and restaurants. Eric, had even surprise my girlfriend by sending chocolate strawberry and champagne to our room to extend his appreciation on my girlfriend birthday. Eric is epitome of class act. However, there was some negative we have also experience. Overprice parking of 50 dollar of day and a front desk staff member that was very ruled to my girlfriend. When she requested room balance receipt.

The staff here is absolutely exceptional! DJ at the front counter has the greatest customer service skills, and he made check in a pleasure! So much so, I got to my room and had to write a review right away. Amazed by how beautiful the hotel and room are! Loving my stay!

FANTASTIC place to stay. I could go on and on but I will try to keep it short. Best place for pets, hands down. They provided dog beds and bowls and allowed my big great dane which most places do not. They even gave her two bags of treats. Free happy hour with local craft beer and wine. Amazing pool area with bar. Kid friendly. Beautiful rooms. Awesome staff who was extremely helpful. They even charged my phone when I left my charger at another hellhole the previous night. This will be my go to hotel.

We had a really nice stay. The pool deck is very nice. The hotel is very convenient to Petco park. Unfortunately the Padres did not win, but that was not required :). Within walking distance of many restaurants and the harbor area. If you borrow one of their bikes, you can also go lots of other places which would be too far to walk. Rooms were clean and the staff was very helpful with any questions I had. I agree with a previous reviewer that parking is too expensive but I also understand that parking is expensive anywhere in that area. So I can't take off any points for that. I have to say we loved it.

In A Nutshell:

In A Nutshell:

-The Kimpton Solamar Hotel is a classy, upscale hotel.
-The location is terrific since it's in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter & everything is very walkable or is a cheap Uber ride away.
-The lounge area has some nice private spaces across the elevators where you can relax or meet.
-The check-in/check-out was fast.
-The room was average size w/ nice queen beds.
-The shower/bathroom had upscale soaps & soft towels.
-The mini bar is fully-stocked w/ just about everything you might need in a pinch.
-You can grab FREE wine/beer at the next door JSix restaurant, but I didn't think the beer was any good.

Overall, the location & cleanliness were great.

The rooms are drafty and the walls are thin. The decorating is nice though. Valet parking is also insanely expensive, but I guess that is normal for San Diego. I wouldn't stay here again but from someone looking to have a good time it might be to their taste. I was there for work and had a lot of trouble sleeping there.

If you haven t been to this hotel, you definitely need to come. Since we walked in the front door the Service has been amazing! I strive to have my businesses take Service to this level. It s truly a forgotten art.

I walked in to this hotel with my Cookie Monster shirt on this afternoon, checked in, and went about the rest of my evening. When we got back to the room, there was a tray of cookies and milk with the Cookie Monster meme.

This is great. Robert, you need a raise or a promotion of some sort!

It's nice enough. Not nearly as modern as the other kimpton properties. The lobby and other common areas had an old and pretentious kind of feel to them. The pool area looked like it could be cool but it was sprinkling outside so they shut down the whole thing. The staff was very nice and friendly. Even the housekeepers would say hello and that is rare in any hotel environment. The room wasn't bad, wasn't special either, it was fine... again just felt older. Maybe that's what you're going for but other kimptons to me have had a much younger feeling.

Wonderful hotel with a great location in the Gaslamp District. Too cold to use pool located on rooftop but would like to stay and use in the future. Friendly staff. Coffee bar in lobby in morning was excellent. I would stay here again. Happy hour in evening was great for good local beers and wine offerings.

We stayed there for one night for my friends bday and the next day when I got my car from valet....I noticed that they went through all my stuff and they stole all my sunglasses, prescription glasses and the gate remote for my house!! When I spoke to the valet manager and the general manager they both said that they reviewed the cameras and they didn't see anything! How is that possible? We stayed for one night and didn't leave the hotel? They claimed that they are still "investigating" but they were not able to resolved anything for me and I wasn't the only one that it happened to other people were complaining as well

I will not ever be able to explain how great this hotel is. I ve stayed here twice within the last year, and the staff have always gone above and beyond in making me feel at home.

The location is perfect for anyone looking to stay in the gas lamp area of San Diego, including those who may be attending conferences at the San Diego Convention Center, or San Diego Padres games.

The rooms are amazing, and creatively designed. It also has a boutique feel to it. The bathrooms are amazing, complete with soaker size jacuzzi tubs.

They have a great rooftop pool, bar and patio and a cozi restaurant located onsite as well.

A huge THANK YOU to Anna, Karinne, Joanna, Justin and the rest of the Solamar team for the royal treatment. We can t wait to come back and see you as a married couple!

Kimpton has built their reputation on providing excellent service and accepting dogs of all kinds. During our stay, each staff member had a smile on their face as they said hello to us in the hotel. Our rottie German shepherd cross loves it here. We will definitely stay here again.

Great hotel in a good location. Check-in and out was a very smooth and easy process, the rooms were spacious and clean. The staff checks in on you several times via text message to see how your stay is going, and I love that they have some small amenities and toiletries available to you in case you forget them.

Booked on Hotels Tonight app. Check in was at 4 which I thought was later than usual. However, when I arrived at 11 am there was a room available and I was able to check in. The rooftop pool/bar/lounge are a very nice addition and a cool place to hang out. The location is in the Gaslamp district which is in the heart of the nightlife. The room was nice and overlooked the pool. The staff was very courteous. There is definitely a younger crowd here but that is what I expected from the area. Only issue I have was with checkout, was disturbed at 8 am and then 9:45 by cleaning person. Checkout is at 11, but I guess on a weekday I should be out early ;).

Pet friendly hotel. Checked in Saturday afternoon and there was happy hour with beer, wine and mini grilled cheese. The lounge and pool area is nice and relaxing with tons of scenery. I could see the jumbo screen at the stadium across the street from the rooftop. Location is great, with so much to do in the area. Valet parking is $47/ night for guests, was thrilled Abt that but hey it is what it is. I'll def be looking for another deal for this hotel.

Very nice hotel, with clean, spacious rooms and stylish, clean lobby area. Plenty of towels provided, and the bathroom had a make-up mirror in addition to the main mirror. The room had an honor bar, but the prices are fairly high and took up nearly all of the refrigerator space. There we're also lots of accessible outlets and USB charging ports throughout the room.
