What a surprise! I toured several local establishments as part of a group tour, and this place was busy without our group showing up. Family business. Staff were pleasant and the product selection was overwhelming. They produce all product themselves and the staff are very proud of their work. Definitely stop by grab a cocoa and one of their tasty sandwiches.

I've always raved about their chocolates (to whomever would listen) my personal guilty pleasure. However, very disappointed with my recent order, the chocolates were tiny yet more expensive. In other posts they have mentioned they reduced their sizes to comply with industry standards, and now they have become just an industry standard. I agree with the others who mentioned they do not taste the same. Heartbreaking as it is, time to move on...
Really nice shop with a large selection of cakes, artisan breads and chocolates Everything is of a really high quality, and the prices reflect this so it's not a budget cafe. Coffee is good and Wifi is available for customers .
Excellent service! I placed an online order in the morning and it was expected to arrive in 1-3 business days. However, they were so quick with the order that not only was it processed the same day, it was also delivered the same day! My gift arrived safely by that afternoon! just bought chocolates for my wife for Valentine's day ... i've been coming to your store for years .. The price keeps going up and now the chocolates are now less than half the size !! its all about the bottom $$ I guess ...

Great chocolates and icecream, maybe slightly expensive but it's tourist central so that's par for the course.
They have recently halved the size of their chocolates, lowered the quality of their gift boxes, and the price is the same or higher. My family always gets their chocolates for Christmas because they were good quality, and while it was expensive, it was still worth it, and felt good to support a local business. Now that they have decided to rip us off this Christmas we will not be going back. It seems they have forgotten what their business is about... their customers!
Very disappointed to see the size of the chocolates getting smaller. At the present price point, I would expect more! To be fair, they are very good chocolates.

Good little chocolate & ice cream shop offering coffee and more in the downtown of Courtenay. On the pricier side (on par with Rocky Mtn) and parking is minimal.
A Courtenay treasure. High quality chocolates. Very courtious staff. Superior mokas using real Belgium chocolate. I will go again and again.

Wow! This place is fantastic. Great coffee, fabulous bakery, even an olive oil tasting bar. The chocolates looked wonderful - I didn't have any chocolate but I understand it is a favourite among the locals. Check it out.

Coffee is good but the chocolates are what they're known for. For the price, they're amazing. Some of the best in the Valley. But they will ring you up a pretty buck. I always come here for the Iced Americano, and it's pretty tasty. The cakes and pasteries are good, but the gelato is second to none. Come here for the gelato, you won't be disappointed.

Locally created chocolates, pretty good coffee as well as cakes and baked goods. Just a few tables inside if you want to enjoy your purchase on site but it gets pretty busy on weekends. Worth a visit because... Who doesn't like chocolate?

Wow! Excellent ice creams and desserts. I tried a chocolate "Cruffin" and it was amazing. Reminded me of something you might find in Italy. If you are in the area, don't miss it.

It was fine, but they don't have enough seating. I had to walk outside in the rain with my large hot chocolate and cake....hardly ideal. Boo hoo

THE stop in Downtown Courtenay. Hand-dipped truffles (who still does that?! Really!), housemade Italian-style Gelato (also Sorbetto), coffee bar, candy (Jelly Bellies anyone?!) AND a sister company 'Cakebread Artisan Bakery' in the same building. If you can't find a reason in all that to stop, come for the atmosphere. Relaxed but sophisticated, classy but comfortable and knowledgeable, friendly staff. When I can't come in (moved to Alberta), I ORDER ONLINE. That's right, a mainline to the best chocolate shop right at your fingertips. Or give them a call and they will deliver anything in the store (so Cakebread stuff too) from Cumberland to Campbell River. It's amazing. Perfect for special birthdays, clients etc. They really need to consider coming this way with a location - I have yet to find a store to rival their products and it would save their shipping department a ton of time LOL!

Shirley from Cape Lazo Rv Park highly recommended Hot Chocolates to us while we were staying there and when she very kindly gave us a ride into town one day made certain to point it out. We went in and had a great lunch and couldn't resist a little of there delicious chocolate too. Hot Chocolates is a very beautifully decorated, cozy comfortable space, with fabulous smells of fresh baking and chocolate emanating from the kitchen and I would highly recommend to anyone who lives in or is visiting the Courtenay area. Bravo, Well Done! I wish you had an outlet in Kitsilano in Vancouver. Les Ewener
We have been coming to the spa for over15years and when we get here Hot Chocolates is one of our first stops. What a disappointment this year. I don't know if they are under new management but it just wasn't the same. The staff was still friendly but they were out of 3 things we asked for, the chocolates are smaller and the packaging is cheaper. We bought 2 cookies and the oatmeal raisin was delicious but the gingersnap was burnt. I don't know how they could even put it out. Hopefully it will be better next year!
Hot Chocolates provided our wedding favours two truffles in a little box with a cute bow. They were the perfect little gift for our guests, and the few extras we ordered were great to bring home to Montreal for our friends who were unable to join us. We had many compliments on them!
Update: Around Xmas they changed the boxes they use and it appears the truffles and chocolates have gotten smaller. Still nice chocolates, but getting in the too expensive range. I haven't gone back since then.
Great Chocolates. 5-stars. My comments are mainly applicable to the Truffles. I am used to dark chocolates with intense flavor, but these are more a creamy mild truffle. They do a good job with the flavors though. The prices are reasonable for the quality and size. I will definitely be going back.

A must visit while you're in the Valley if you like great, chocolate, bread, cakes and cupcakes. Can be a long wait to pay, also can be a little congested in there, leave yourself some time. Always very friendly and helpful staff on hand.
Their chocolates are pretty good, but the real reason to hit up this place (in my opinion) is the bakery and olive oil section! Really unique and high quality stuff that is so delicious! I come to Courtenay from Vancouver to refill on Basil infused olive oil on the regular!
Just glad I don't live in Courtney because I would be in here everyday to the vast detriment of my waistline.
