Have stayed here once a year for past 15 years for work trip. The place is getting a little run down these days. Really needs a re-model makeover. Also, took 30 minutes to check-in because the desk help was over at the restaurant doing something and had a maintenance guy telling guests who were lined up that staff would be available in a few minutes, whihe they weren't.

The biggest disappointment has been the attached restaurant on the property. Was never great, but it was adequate in the past, with a decent breakfast. Today I was asked if I wanted to order off the menu or do the breakfast buffet. I went and looked at the breakfast buffet; half-cooked greasy bacon, watered down scrambled eggs, and cold baked hash brown type potatoes. I decided to order off the menu so I could get a freshly cooked breakfast.
Two minutes after ordering, the kitchen cook comes flying around the corner with a plate of food. It was obvious that he went to the breakfast bar(in another area I could not see) and prepared the plate; half-cooked greasy bacon, watered down eggs that were not edible, and cold previously baked hash brown type potatoes. In addition, the lone wait staff guy was frantic and not covering job duties. I waited 15 minutes to see if he would come back to the table so I could ask him for cream for my coffee. At the 15 minute mark I saw him hustling out the front door with a room service tray, so I gave up on the cream and getting my check n I left all I had, a $20 bill, on the table, overpaying for a breakfast that was not edible by $9.

After 15 years of patronage, I will not be returning to this hotel. Holiday Inn May want to re-assess their franchising of this place. Feels like a Day s Inn to me.

The floors are dirty stain you would wanna walk Barefoot. there some kind of black mold growing around the base and top of the shower. No microwave They only have one outlet with an extension cord for the Room. So if you're coming here to do works you're screwed. The people that work there are awesome. Hotel is run down and OK if you're in college student get drunk for the night.

Nothing fancy but this place delivers on the three most important services: high pressure and high volume shower head( curse those dribbling sh*tty low volume ones to the outer darkness), decent bed, courteous front desk service. Good value. Parking was scare and the place is well worn and dated if that bothers you.

We stayed at this hotel and had a TERRIBLE experience. We will never be back. It was dirty, the room was wrong, and all around was an experience that will cause us to never go back!
We got there and checked in shortly after checkin time started. We got put in this corner room of the hotel that was dirty, there were stains on the floors and the chair in the room. There was a terrible smell, the bathroom had a crack in the mirror, the tile floor had a big crack, the closet door was broken, and it was one king bed - we booked a room with two king beds. When we got back to the hotel later that night, I asked to be put in a room with two king beds - which is what we booked and she said they didn't have any of those rooms available and didn't have any other rooms available except for a queen. I told her we paid for a room with two kings and she said that they all cost the same amount - this isn't true. I told her I wasn't willing to stay in anything but what we booked and she told me at that point that she did have a room with a king, but would have to move someone else around... so essentially the hotel WAY overbooked themselves and couldn't accomodate what guests had booked. I told her we would take it, because it was closer than a queen and it got out us out of our terrible dirty and stinky room. Our new room was still nothing to write home about, atleast it was a little more clean and didn't have the bad smell, but the curtains had rips in them, there were still stains on the floor and the air conditioner was so loud you would have to yell to talk (this was the case in both rooms). The hotel all around was very dirty. Needless to say, this was not a great experience and for what we paid, was absolutely not worth it! We didn't even get what we paid for. I would also say that the location was not the most safe, if you get there after dark, most of the parking spots are taken and you have to park in the back of the hotel where there are people wondering around all hours of the night...The plugs in the lamps didn't work, so there were only select outlets in the room that worked. New people were moved into our old room within 10 minutes, which shows that they had not cleaned the room in between, which was really concerning for us as we moved into our new room, not knowing if it had truly been cleaned or who was in there before us.

Homeless right outside hotel. Very thin walls (noisy). Uncomfortable bed, and my room smelled like body odor and cigarettes.
The gym was very small and only has cardio machines.
I ate at the restaurant (Mesa)and had a burger; which was just ok. Breakfast at the restaurant attached to the hotel (Mesa)was better.
Staff was friendly.

Nice rooms, good service, one night shift employee tends to not be so friendly but you never know maybe he's really tired. They really need to work on a Continental breakfast Or Something maybe Coffee and donuts instead might be cheaper. Just an idea but for family's it makes a difference.

All the typical amenities though no continental breakfast. Normal prices, comfortable beds, Bath & Body for the bathroom. Tight parking. Nothing in the in-room fridge. Coffee available in the rooms is decent.

Towels were dirty, floor was not vacuumed and had dog hair all over. AC in my room would not stay on the fan would continue to kick off even when turned on. I informed them and they said it was normal however a family members room AC worked properly. Did not restock coffee in room but did restock shampoo and conditioner even though we still had plenty.... On the plus side beds are comfy just make sure to check the sheets and blankets and front desk agent at check-in was nice. Its holiday inn dont get your hopes up but make sure to check that you have clean towels and sheets.

As an anonymous traveling hotel reviewer, checking...

As an anonymous traveling hotel reviewer, checking the status of different franchised hotels that have had disappointing reviews in the past. My next stop was the Holiday Inn - La Mesa in La Mesa, California. The online booking went smoothly and was no hassle. Once I arrived I noticed in the parking lot towards the back what looked like a maintenance man raking glass from outside a dumpster. That was unsettling. Once I walked through the doors I was greeted by a nice young lady at the front desk named Angelica who helped me get checked in nice and easy. But I noticed some fruit flies that were around the water display for the guests. Once I got to my room I was welcomed with the sight of a few stains on the carpet & the sound of my neighbors having an argument like they were in the room with me due to the thin walls. As I walked around the room, I became more uncomfortable than I wanted to be. Dust on the curtains, things left in the fridge from the last guest, crumbs in the chairs, & fingerprints on the window. When I checked the bed I was highly disturbed by my findings. The pillows were firm to the point of upmost discomfort, the fitted sheets have quite a few stains on them, & lastly I met the other tenants who were apparently trying to share this bed with me; bed bugs. As soon as I saw them, I was ready to leave but in these cases I bring my own cot. Throughout the night I heard & saw things that belonged in a brothel. Different women & men leaving in and out of a room or two at different times of night, people who looked like they were possibly high on different substances, homeless gentlemen or women harassing me & others outside while having a cigarette, etc. I had a late start but when I was leaving my room, I was greeted by a very nice housekeeper named Vicky who made sure I was taken care of & had everything I needed. I went down for breakfast and was served by the waitress named Tashwana who at first seemed rude but as her shift progressed she eased up and was a lovely person. There was an incident that I unfortunately had to hear between her and one of the managers named Oussuama from the back that made me question how your managers conduct themselves on the job. This day he looked erratic, confused, & foolish. At one point he came to me asking if I was doing alright and enjoying my food and I happen to notice something by his nostril that resembled some off white powder. I was put off by his behavior & the behavior towards his workers so I left as soon I was able. I came back down later that night and was greeted with a different atmosphere. A calmer more helpful set of staff. The manager on duty at this time was Craig and he was very helpful with everything I needed that night. Once I walked into the restaurant I was greeted by a very nice waitress named Alexzandria. She took her time taking my order & was very generous. At one point I met the chef named Frank & he was delightful. Full of energy & helpful as well. Unfortunately, the food didn t come up to par. The wings I ordered tasted frozen & the burger was decent. What kept me at this hotel was the combined hospitality that some of the staff including and especially the staff I have named has provided to me. But so much has to be done to this establishment and something has to be done with your management. The sexual harassment I have witnessed between the two managers and a male and female coworker is completely and utterly unacceptable. The uncleanliness in multiple rooms, the fire alarms repetitively going off at different times of the day, a random drug bust unfolding in YOUR hotel; these are things that should not be happening at any type of business. If these problems are not resolved soon, you will be closed in less than 2 months.

Clean, comfortable rooms, and friendly staff. Breakfast wasn't complimentary, which would have been a nice perk, and I wouldn't have noticed that without all the posters in the lobby advertising breakfast options under the Holiday Inn logo. Not a fault of the hotel itself, but some revamping of the signage would help clarify that.

I would never stay here again. For a more expensive and "nicer" hotel compared to the rest, this hotel severely underperforms. Poor AC that hardly works. Heater on in the hallways at about 85 degrees in the summer. Guest laundry closes at 10pm (seriously?!). No continental breakfast. Stay away.

Please read the whole review. To tell you the truth they had a very small pool no continental breakfast and I booked it online with Priceline for $13 more unfortunately. I asked the front desk how much it was for the 31st 2018 December and the first of January 2019 and both days were $90 plus tax I paid $103 plus tax turned out to be $113. So you should check the hotel while you're doing the online thang....

This place is a nicer hotel option for the price but you will have NO PRIVACY if you stay on the first floor! all of the rooms have window curtains that ARE SEE THROUGH. MY boyfriend and I woke up to someone talking outside of our windows and when we looked he was staring right into the room! Thats enough to make me not want to stay here again. IF you do stay make sure you get the upper floors so you can have the privacy you paid for!

First of all, the TV in my suite did not work. The room they moved me to had a 32inch TV mounted so far away from the bed you didnt know what you watching. All the trash cans in the halls were continuously full on the 1st and 3rd floor. I know they were not changed for at least 2-3 days. The bar was closed at 8:50. Then in was not given my breakfast coupons I prepaid for. The lady in the dining hall was not up for making me something from the menu and the breakfast buffet had like 3 items for 10$. It wasnt much to choose from. Overall worst experience in a IHG hotel ever. I'm a Spire elite me member so I've staying in a bunch.

Very nice staff. even though I didn't have a credit card with me they're willing to have my dad on the phone with his credit card. It's so hard to do anything without a credit card but at least Holiday inn La Mesa had me covered. Because my dad is aspire member I also got breakfast that was made custom! The rooms are clean and the beds are great. Also hot shower!! This location is pretty good it's really not that far from San Diego. I finally get so sleep!!! Thanks IGH!!

Briana helped us out big time. We had booked a room with breakfast included and it wasn't saved that way when we got there. She was very understanding and signed us up for the breakfast with no questions! I would definitely recommend this hotel!!

If I could give this place a zero I would. My wife and I found yellow stains on the sheets. The night clerk offered us another room, we checked the room before moving and found pubic hairs in the bed. We finally got fresh sheets and changed the bedding ourselves!!
Not happy!!

Nice room, clean bathroom and carpets, quite, rarely hear vehicle noises. Close to many places to eat, in the center of the San Diego area so takes about the same time to get to most attractions. Food in onsite restaurant was good and breakfast is completely.

The customer service was horrible ! Just to make a reservation was difficult. The employee was very rude just because the reception was bad. Would highly recommend hiring staff that values customer service. Will not recommend anyone to this hotel location.

I recommend a stay here, IF you're in the area. What makes the Holiday Inn noteworthy is the people. I was not impressed with the GM, who couldn't be bothered to say hello. I saw him twice.... Couldn't Be Bothered!
He has my vote as least likely to call for aid if I were on fire. I would highly recommend that he pay attention to the next team building seminar he attends.....

The upside, and chiefly responsible for the rating is the staff. Competent, helpful and friendly without being overly familiar. Professional, courteous and flexible. Truly a highlight to the weary traveller looking for respite from the road.

I SUBMITTED THIS REVIEW DIRECTLY THROUGH IHG REWARDS AS WE HAVE BEEN LOYAL MEMBERS AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT MY REVIEW HAD INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT SO HERE IS WHAT I WROTE THAT THEY DID NOT ACCEPT: Our reservation confirmation states we have a room with 2 Queen Beds. Alicia at the Front Desk told me they only have Queen and King beds. I told her we are in a room with Full size beds. She told me to speak with her manager in the morning and couldn t move us because they are fully booked but it would be the same kind of room anyway. No apology offered. I had to ask her. I hung up, asked my son to measure the bed. It s 56 X 72 . So I googled bed measurements. Full size mattress is 54 X 75 while a Queen size mattress is 60 X 80 . I know without measurements that these beds are Full size as I only have two twin beds, one Queen and one King bed at home. Disappointed with the deceitful advertising of Queen beds.

Rooms are good, they now have new mattresses. However, our room (346) did not have a microwave, when we first arrived, the fridge did not work, but that got fixed right away. One of the closet doors was missing. But, clean and consistent. You do have to pay extra to get breakfast at the attached restaurant, so that is a consideration. Will be back!

Overall, a pretty decent stay. Room was spacious and comfy and the bed was nice and soft. AC worked great. Will probably stay here again next time in San Diego. Also, close to the 8 freeway and Grossmont Shopping Center.

The inn was fine, heater smelled awful.

My real gripe is with the food service. They have a little food place in a seperate building that opens at 6:30 on weekends. We waited 20 minutes to be served and they literally threw the menus on the table before walking away, no questions about drinks. No silverware given. Staff seems to be missing or recovering from a bender from the night before.

Angelica tried to fix my TV in my room and when couldn't get it working upgraded me to a suite! Amazing. She's a real hospitality pro. Totally. Only 4 stars because the housekeeping needs to work on some things. Cookie under the ottoman, plastic lid from a beauty bottle in the bathroom and the flat sheet was upside down on the bed and I had a label near my face all night. Still wonderful hotel, just needs some better housekeeping. :-)

Very professional and courteous staff. Room felt clean and modern. Didn't utilize the other amenities but they are likely to be on par with similar quality of hotels. Overall this was a solid hotel in an area with not much selection for higher end lodging.

Staff was friendly. Room and common areas were clean. Pool area ( not the pool itself) was a little dirty and smaller than I expected but overall was nice. I had an issue with the TV in the room. It took a couple of days to fix, they tried to move me rooms but we're completely booked. Overall was nice place to stay. Close to shopping and beach areas.
