I really hate leaving anything less than a 4 or 5 star review. That said, we had been looking forward to our vacation here for months. Never been to Hilton Head before. Stayed over the the 4th of July holiday so it was busy (sold out). While the hotel staff were great, a few things bothered us about our stay. 1) It's an older Marriott hotel, so it's not as nice as I expected for this type of destination. Many areas need updating. 2) The Wi-Fi is virtually non-existent so don't plan on it working - at all. Cell service/strength is also sluggish from the hotel property. 3) The food was completely average. Nothing very tasty and nothing to realize you're at a Marriott. 4) Our biggest complaint was the large amount of non-hotel guests who took up parking spaces, brought their beach chairs, umbrellas, and wheeled coolers right through the hotel and out to the pool and beach. We observed and overheard several groups and families that were not staying at the hotel use all the hotel facilities: pool towels, lounge chairs, food & drink service, the pool, bathrooms, beachfront space, etc. It was really shocking to witness all this and share what felt like 'community space' while paying resort prices. Yes, they issue guests a parking pass to place in their window but apparently it isn't enforced or controlled in any way. We saw at least 50% of the vehicles without this required pass. At the end of each day we watched droves of people pack up and leave the property in their vehicles. Pool towels... handed out freely - no showing a room key or any proof you're a guest of the hotel. We went to get a spot by the pool at 10am and everything was taken. We then went to the beach and were lucky to rent chairs and an umbrella for ~$50. We talked with the hotel's general manager to express our concerns with all the outsiders and she acted shocked we even thought it was happening. This explained enough to me they don't think it's a problem, or their problem. It just felt like everyone knew to drive to the Marriott and use their pool and beachfront for free. I'm not upset with Marriott. I just don't know if I'd stay here again. I'd maybe stay somewhere else that has better security knowing who's on their property. Our stay didn't have any of the unique and familiar Marriott feel.

Hello, My spouse booked our stay at the Marriott Hilton Head Resort & Spa. We normally book trips about 4-6 times a year. We look for activities, food, fun things to do when we get away, and good value for the money spent. I was excited about our trip to HH, I had never stayed at the beach in this area before. We booked our stay for Sat & Sun night this past weekend 9/19/20 & 9/20/20, with a plan to stay a couple more nights if we liked it. We ended up packing up and staying at another location just down the beach a few miles away, and not staying more nights at the Marriott. Sat night was $310 and Sun night was $250 plus tax plus a $25 per night resort fee. The parking lot is a bit of a hike to the lobby. From the time we checked in to check out, the staff were not very friendly and seemed like they were in a rush to get you in and out. We had no notice before we booked, that room service, Spa, gym, inside pool, both hot tubs were all closed. 1 Michelob Ultra at the outdoor pool bar was $9 and a Strawberry Daiquiri was $12, it was all sugar concentrate. We left the resort, for an offsite Spa for a Manicure and Pedicure. The food was over priced, limited and not that great . The room had a mold smell, the lamp shade on the desk had dust and dirt so thick that there is no way it had been cleaned this year. The bathroom had tiles coming off around the tub / shower from a water leak. I am shocked they call this a Marriott Resort and Spa. I'm sure we will get the standard sorry about your stay response. Bottom line they already got our money and probably don't care about this review. If your looking for a decent place with amenities and good value for your money this is not it. If your going to close down most of your amenities and not keep the room clean and updated, it should be reflected in the price you charge.

The hotel was overwhelmed by the number of guests on site. Our group of 8 was seated immediately but it took over an hour to get our lunch entrees, at which point it was discovered that they had lost one plate. One of the pools was closed and one elevator was out of order. The facility issues could be explained as off season maintenance, but it was during spring break. Very poor planning on management's part.

They need to tear this place down and start over. Its tired and worn out. Apparently, Marriott has outsourced nearly everything in this hotel to an Indian company. Its hard to someone in the restaurant Blue that you can understand. Blue is a complete rip off. $11 for watered down drinks and $30 for a small shrimp bowl. Marriott needs to rethink outsourcing their customer experience to 3rd parties from Asian cultures. This is America and that doesnt translate well.

Good location, nice pool area and beach access, staff was very friendly. Rooms are so so, they appear to be updated but still could use some attention. If you're in Hilton Head for the beach or golfing, this hotel is in a great location.

Giving this place a 2. Only because the staff, valet and hiuse keeping staff was very nice and friendly.
This place is dated. Rust on the lamps in the room, you have to close the bathroom door just to open the shower door. (Pics provided)
We got a king room oceanfront. 70% of their rooms are not true OCEANFRONT. They are ocean view or parcel views.
Room was very small. No hair dryer in the bathroom. No microwave. The door to the adjoining room was damaged and the chair bracing the damaged door knob. (Pic provided)
Vending machine took a card for the chips etc....the drink machine however only took cash.
I added everything because I held this place at a higher standard than this. Especially for $268 for a one night stay and being a Marriot Member.
Thanks for the read and hope this helps.

Great staff but overwhelmed. Facilities are worn out. Usually only 1 of 3 elevators worked. Pools were closed. Room service was ridiculously slow. It ll be easy to stay somewhere else next time.

This was my first time staying at this hotel. It ...

This was my first time staying at this hotel. It was unfortunate that my first impression was a lingering and unpleasant odor as I entered the building. It appeared the building had several leaks and the ceilings were cracked; I suspect the smell was old mildew? They had several fans going all over the hotel. It's an older hotel and appears to need quite some upkeep. It was very busy, as expected for this time of year. However, I arrived at 1pm to place my daughter and I's items in our room before attending a conference that was being held at the hotel and I needed to be ready by 4:30pm. I was told by the check in clerk that someone had already 'checked' into my room. Keep in mind, no one called ahead of time to check in prior to our arrival. I was quite shocked to hear that they continued to tell me they did not know how that happened and instead of apologizing for the inconvenience, they were quite rude (and appeared bothered that I was upset) and was told I would have to wait until someone checked on the room. 3.5 hours LATER and after several conversations with other clients who had been waiting several hours for their rooms as well, I approached the desk again, furious as I had heard no updates from them. I had to apply makeup and change into my conference clothes in the bathroom with my daughter. Thankfully, I spoke to a nice supervisor this time, who apologized profusely while attempting to get the problem fixed. The room STILL was not ready for check-in at this time. The supervisor could not tell me why. When I finally got into my room (there was still a smell), the water from the shower and faucet smelled and tasted like chlorine. Several plugs in the room didn't work. I had to blowdry and straighten my hair in the main room. There was a fridge, but no microwave. That night, upon calling on the service desk asking for use of a microwave to heat up food saved from lunch, the lady on the phone was extremely rude and stated there were no microwaves on the hotel premises. I mean, what 4 star hotel does not have a microwave? The food was decent, the waiting staff VERY nice, but was ridiculously over-priced. In conclusion, I was given a credit to my account for all the trouble and a complimentary 'gift'. This gift was a typical nylon grocery bag with some coupons and stickers. I had someone already give me this bag during my previous 3.5-hour wait in the lobby, so I asked if there was any other item. The woman said no and apologized. Some gift! I understand it gets busy and things happen, but as a reputable hotel of 4 stars, you anticipate more professional customer service and business in general. Sure, it was courteous to give me a credit, but I expected that as the negligence and lack of professionalism was terrible. You can't expect to buy customers with money. That is not the point, it's the principle of the matter. I gave 2 stars and not 1 because the cleaning/waiting staff were very nice as well as the pools and easy beach access. All in all, first impressions last. I expected more for what I paid. For $369 + additional fees, I will never return to this hotel. Such a disappointment.

Such an amazing and beautiful place. Customer service is , they treat you like Kings and Queens. Anthony, the concierge is absolutely wonderful and charming. What a great experience. The spa, the cafe, Blue, the restaurant, the pools, the view, the balcony, and the endless opportunities of quality selfcare . What a great treat from my brother, Dunn. I shall be returning...soon! I gave 4 stars because the spa closes early (steam/sauna room) by 5pm. Love this place and wanted more spa time!

Stayed here when I was in town for a cycle ride and the whole experience was great. Good quick check in with clear and easy to understand maps of where the room and parking were, great room and all the other areas of the property we went to were also great. Easy access to the beach was handy and the beach bar was handy on the way back after the beach walk!

We planned this leisure trip on short notice--a quick getaway. Every employee we encountered were very friendly and eager to help in any way. At check-in we were moved to a room on the top floor, per our request, for great views of the beach. The breakfast buffet was included in our room package, and was delicious, with quite an extensive selection--I cannot think of any breakfast item that was not available on the buffet. The hotel was going through some construction and parking lot sealing and striping on the days we were there, but we considered those to be minor inconveniences. The Blue Bar was a great place for an after-dinner dessert (banana pudding for two!) and a glass of cold milk. The hotel has been renovated somewhat since our last stay. The rooms were updated. The beds were very comfortable, and the bedding updated and modern. The outdoor pool area was very clean and fresh, with plenty of deck chairs. The indoor pool and hot tub area was very quiet and relaxing after a long walk on the beach. A very nice getaway, indeed!

Definitely in a nice location! Plenty to do on resort.. eating, bike/kayak rentals, and great bike trails to ride. Pools are also spacious! The only reason I gave a four star instead of five is because they only had one station for washing off sand from beach and it wasn't easily accessible from the beach ramp!

Had a great experience here with my family! We had a little mishap with our room not being available right away so they gave us a full refund on the first night and they were very accommodating under the circumstances. The hotel has a very luxurious feel to it. Highly recommend.

For engaged couple looking for a wedding venue, I encourage you to look elsewhere. While the view and beach access are both nice, the cons outweigh the pros. Even for the relatively small wedding we had, the lawn for the ceremony is relatively small. After the ceremony we went to the beach for photos and our guests had cocktail hour on a deck that was, again, relatively small. We were bumping into some guests as we made our way to the beach. For the reception the food was, in my opinion, average tasting. Comparing reception cost to what you get in food, dancing room, etc there was not much value. Also be sure to read every word in the contract so you aren't surprised when you receive the bill for the reception.

In summary, nice view but small and minimal value. And again, this is MY opinion of the venue. Some people may be more than content with this location.

(Side note: I absolutely hate giving people or companies "bad" reviews but felt that everyone should be fully aware of what they may expect)

Great location. I always love a Marriott beach resort and this did not disappoint. A little issue with our Marriott Rewards upgrade requests which was in NO WAY this resorts fault. But, Lindsay at the front desk still comped us a few perks to smooth things over which was really above and beyond. Would have been a 5 star review but the rooms need a little TLC, but I would definitely stay here again. Top notch hospitality and pool bar drinks!

It s our 2nd day of a 5 day stay. I will start off with saying I always make it a point to stay on Marriott properties when I travel for business and have earned Platinum status with Marriott. This is by far the most disappointing experience I have had at any hotel chain, including Marriott. First things first.... we check in and are told they are not offering breakfast, the gym is closed, the spa is closed, and you can only have your room cleaned on the third day and they re still charging a resort fee. After going to our room it smelled like mold and fried food and we were transferred to another room. My pregnant wife went to the lobby Starbucks in the morning and was treated horribly by the worker. When she asked for sugar he ignored her and then threw the sugar packets at her. The coffee was so stale and old she was sick from it. Last but not least this Marriott has no beach/pool towels available. We were told they were all out and to come back 15 minutes later. We have been back twice and the towels are still out!!!! Another issue is their lack of social distancing in the pool area. There is absolutely no room in the pool and no one is wearing masks - but they still have gym closed and will not clean room due to COVID. We came to the Hilton Head Marriott to celebrate our baby moon and I am regretting the decision. This is a poor example of a Marriott property/hospitality.

We stayed here and watched the lunar eclipse over the water. We got upgraded to an ocean front room and had a great view, thanks Marriott! We had a lunch and a dinner at the bar as it was playoff football and they had great food. Truly enjoyed the food, especially the sauteed snapper. Minus one start because of the elevator noise and some minor cosmetic blemishes in the bathroom. Will definitely be back in the summer.

This was the best experience I have ever had. The staff was very courteous . Marriott is a beautiful upscale place to visit. Super clean , just a step away to the beach. I will definitely be revisiting and will recommend this place to everyone . We were very pleased. I would strongly recommend an ocean-view balcony for a overwhelming experience.

Pool great, everything very clean.

Architecturally not much, but pool beach and room sizes are nice.

Easy parking or valet. We had to wait a few hours for our room to be ready. Had a Jr. Suite that was two rooms with a bath and a half. Room was clean and nice with two full balconies, but not much of a view. The beach access is wonderful! Pool bar is easy to navigate to and friendly staff. Pool bathroom is only two stalls and seems limited when all the families are at the pool. Overall I enjoyed our short stay here. After reading other comments I worried that the price was a reflection of the property. We are platimun elite with Marriott and always are taken care of so I am glad we stayed and will bring our small kids back on our next trip. The comments could be true for others, but our stay was great. I would recommend it from our recent experience.

I've been coming to this hotel for many years, even back before it was a Marriott. It used to be a Hyatt. Anyway, for years I have enjoyed the pool area and all the restaurants for greater than 25 years now. I really love this hotel. However, I did have a very bad experience in the downstairs restaurant recently I felt that I needed to share. After being seated, I noticed dried syrup on my fork. That's not a huge issue because I know syrup dries rock hard and takes scrubbing to remove, and I didn't see this as a reflection on the overall cleanliness of the restaurant. I very nicely asked my server to take the fork back to the kitchen and get me a new fork. She came back with the EXACT same fork! The fork was the same because it had syrup dried on it in the exact same spot. I asked her why she would do this- to just bring me back the same fork I had asked her to replace and she got very defensive. So, I asked to speak to the manager. The manager then came to my table and defended the waitress saying, "She gave you the same fork because she just threw the old one back in the silverware bin and picked up another one and it happened to be the same one." Okay, even if I did believe this, wouldn't that actually be worse? That she would take a dirty fork a customer had been handling and just put it back in with the clean ones? I find that pretty disgusting and disturbing. I'll still use the hotel but I avoid the restaurants.

Beautiful location on twelve miles of wide white sand beach. Right on the Atlantic. Great service, comfortable room (realky decent size) and reasonable prices. We enjoyed the outdoor pool, and the beach. Close by (easy walk) a well stocked general store, and a large bike rental store. My husband loved biking on Hilton Head! Marriott was an excellent choice for our four day getaway!!

We took a room at 10th floor, view was spectacular. When wind picked up, balcony door has whistle like noise, that was irritating at night. I saw one small bug in room. I miss the coffee shop in lower floor that served bagles, they closed. There is another coffee shop at main level but very limited selections. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay. Will be back.

The location is very good as it is right on the beach, just outside Palmetto Dunes. The hotel itself is slightly dated, but more than adequate. Didn't try any food at hotel, so can't speak to that. There are 2 pools that are both very nice. Would stay again.

They messed up our room reservation. The staff was very very unfriendly and unprofessional. We had to change in the lobby to go out and use the pool do to a five-hour wait for corrected room to be ready. We ordered for drinks at the outdoor bar had to pay over $40. And they added 18% tip on without your consent.
