Her Majesties Theatre Melbourne Review

Beautifully designed theatre with clear views of the stage. Staff here are professional and warm.
The only issue is intermission break you'll be hard pressed to get to the bar for a drink before the bell.

Show was fantastic. Seats were very uncomfortable. The building is so old it needs renovating. Bathrooms theatre stage the whole building is so old.

School of Rock was awesome also

We saw a matinee performance of The School of Rock on Saturday. The show started at 2pm but we got there at 12:30 so we could have lunch beforehand. The cafe attached to the theatre had a small range of sandwiches, croissants and snacks which was ok for adults, but we ended up walking around the corner to get Subway for the kids. The souvenir shop opens an hour before the show starts and it was definitely a lot less busy buying before, than after the show. There was a small range of souviners including show program, key rings, teddy bear, T- shirts and drumsticks which ranged in price from $15-$50. The souvenier program was $25, so we opted for a T-shirt which was $30. The theatre itself is older in style and the seating is quite cramped. We sat in the grand circle- a fancy way of saying right up the back. I think the ideal place probably would have been the dress circle which was one level below us. The elevated seating I found steep and the seats were very close to the ones in front. I am not a tall person and my knees were nearly touching the seat in front of me. To be honest, by the end of the first half of the show, my knees were aching. After intermission I moved so that I had a spare seat next to me. I sat on the side so I could stretch out my legs. The show itself- The School of Rock- was amazing and I would highly recommend it, especially for children. They just need to be able to sit still for a couple of hours at a time. The cast are very talented and bring huge amounts of energy to the production. I would highly recommend seeing it, but perhaps send the kids with the shortest parent.

Always love love love Her Majs one of the best places for theatre in Melbourne. Love all our old theaters so grateful for the families that saved them from Crazy knock them down government planers/developer mates.

Lovely old venue. Comfy seats and enough room to stretch a bit. View of stage a bit limited from back of stalls but okay. Wine is dear for glass (small plastic) $9:00.

Purchased "special" wonka wednesday tickets to willy wonka and the chocolate factory which cost $79.90 per ticket compaired to $59.90 for a standard ticket after reading up on Her Majesty's website about this special ticket that gets you access to willy wonka's chocolate factory. Here i was thinking i would get to see extra stuff. Turns out staff told us that the so called chocolate factory is just a name for the the theater while the play is on. A complete rip off by Her Majesty's and Ticketek poor form and i hope people read this and do not by these tickets.

Its a lovely old theatre and great to see any performance in.

Production was great The seats were so close everytime I ajusted my postion my legs would hit the seat in front. No other theatre have i had this problem

Didn't enjoy the seats which were rated with "no obstructions" when we booked - we couldn't see the top half of the set!

Not ideal, and a slightly tall person in front of us was enough to block out a remaining 1/4 of the view. Not sure I would bother going again.

Aladdin was okay but for me, lacked artistry and the magic that theatre usually have.

I'm a huge theatrical fan.. Aladin was good, Mamma Mia was great, but boy oh boy- SCHOOL OF ROCK was sensational.
Joe Kosky was Jack Black to the tee. Best performance in a lead role I've ever seen. And those kids where awesome, I actually want to experience this show again before it ends..

Great venue but hard to see over tall people given how the seats are sloped.

A beautiful theatre in the heart of Melbourne. Just make sure you dont get seats right next to a pole.

I love the shows they put on but the setting is a bit squashed and if a big person sits in front off you you have to keep moving your head from side to side

I had a terrible experience watching phantom of opera. The seats are tiny and cramped. No leg room for someone who is even not too tall(1.7m). Sitting on grand circle we could see only the back of the stage and if someone leans forwards you can not even see that. Not a good venue at all.

Was pretty apart from the sets which showed basically nothing

We booked the less expensive seating - it mentioned some of the stage was limited in viewing. It was however we had a fantastic time craning our necks when the view was a little challenging.

Lovely historic theatre. Comfortable seating and a small enough theatre that the view is good from everywhere. Lots of cafes and bars nearby for before and after refreshments.

Venue is one of Melbourne's oldest but beautiful theatres. It gives a comfy intimate feeling to performances. My only drawback was the girl in front of me with a knot on top of her head which made it extremely difficult to see. If the seats were staggered it would help short people like me have a clearer view.

Watched Aladdin here, show was lovely, great audio and comfy seats up stairs.

Only show in town on a Monday night! Beautiful old theatre well preserved. Seats comfortable and good views. Bar next door was brilliant place for a pre-show meal and drink - but only for early arrivals

First time at this theatre and I don't want to be too critical. Even though it's an old style fashion theatre it's not very well preserved. The walls are a bit faded the chairs a bit worn. Also when you look at the stage you can see people's huge heads in front for you something I guess a theatre would have worked out. Don't know but my experience was ok not great. Government should invest more in culture to educate donkeys like me.

Sound is good, but it's a little cramped. Still had a great time sing Les Miserables here!

A great theatre experience in a beautiful old theatre in the heart of Melbourne and bordering on Chinatown. Views seem to be pretty good from most seats and the big stage allows for some great stage and set options

It is so amazing to have the phantom of opera in Her Majesty s theatre- a posh environment that makes you enjoy one of the best musicals in the world. The decorations within it is absolutely stunning, and the whole environment just allows more get involved in the story.

Lovely appointed theatre, and very comfortable. Easy to get around.
