It was a great. The horses were very calm and it was a great experience.
Purdy darn great! We took in the 4 hour ride, which was just long enough. Saw some BEAUTIFUL back country and mountainous views of MT. My mom couldn't stick it and was escorted back to the house to enjoy reading in the library while we continued on. All this was great, but the best part was having dinner with the cowpokes! They lit a great fire and we had an awesome, old school Cowboy Sing-a-Long as the sun set over the mountains. Also, BYOB if you're into it. This is a perfect Montana experience!
By far the best Outfitters and outfitting family in the West.
Great get away! Had family reunion there, everyone was so professional
Our family did the 2 hour ride in Aug. The guides were very helpful and personable. The ride through the mountains was beautiful. The lunch was great as well. I would highly recommend this for families.
After reading reviews by Randy Hanson and Randall Haugen, I have to respond as to the character and ethics of Warren and Sue and their guides. I hunted with Warren for several years in the late 90s and never really felt part of the group, I always felt like an outsider. With that being said, I got what I paid for, a horse, bunk, excellent food and guides who were very conscious of and went out of their way to make sure I had a safe and fair chase hunt. And yes I did have some success in getting a couple of nice elk. I have never seen any questionable or illegal activities by any of the guides. Since my experiences with Hell's A Roarin I have hunted with several other outfitters and wish I had stayed with Warren. Even though I was never part of the click, I had a fabulous time and feel I got more than my money's worth.
We didn't ride here. Instead, we came for a cowboy cookout. Great beans. The (inevitable) huckleberry ice cream was also memorable.
We loved our half day horseback ride with our kids! The trail ride had incredible views and the "cowboys" and "cowgirls" were all really friendly and helpful. Very well oiled operation... Make sure you get there on time
Arrange a horse ride and see some beautiful scenery. Very friendly and professional.
What an amazing experience. I would definitely recommend it to others. Excellent views and a very courteous and knowledgeable staff.
We really enjoyed our horseback rides here. Part of our group did 1 hour and part did 2 hours. We all hd a great time.
Breath taking scenery and awesome guides!!!! Thanks for the great experience!
Cole, he is an idahoian, led our 8 person group on a two hour horseback ride in the mountians. He did a very nice job!
THE PREMIER HORSEBACK WILDERNESS ADVENTURE OUTFITTER OF THE ENTIRE YELLOWSTONE REGION !
BAR NONE !
Amazing! Guides Handy & Peter Couldn't Have Been Better!
Our family had an incredible experience at the Hell's A Roarin Outfitters. The ranch is a perfect location to view the beautiful Montana landscape. The staff was warm and friendly. The horse ride was fun and exciting. I can't wait to go back. Thank you Hell's A Roarin for setting the scene for our family to make wonderful memories together.
The bear den cabin was very cozy. the staff amazingly friendly. food was really good, horseback riding was really nice too. campfires with sing along was alot of fun. can't wait to go back!!!
Do not go to Yellowstone without also doing the sunset ride and Cowboy BBQ with these guys. Breathtaking views from their ranch way up above it all. Wonderful hospitality. It is a must.
Beautiful doesn't begin to explain this place. We took the 2 hour tour and loved it. The views are amazing, and saw some great wildlife. The guide and horses were fantastic. Highly recommend!
This place is awesome! Easy enough to find, and the ranch was clean and orderly, and Susan is beautiful. We took the 2 hour trip and it was perfect- just long enough to enjoy a fantastic view, but short enough not to leave you with jelly legs. The horses were gentle and incredibly well trained and the guides were friendly and helpful. Thank you, Hells a Roarin !
Excellent. Had a blast. We were well taken care of by our wrangler.
We had a blast on the 1 hour horse ride. We came from Kentucky to a friends wedding, loved that we was able to pick the time we wanted to ride. We own horses at home and I do alot of riding, my husband doesnt ride but he did at Hell's A Roarin' and he loved it!!! Thanks for the great time!
Great trail ride! Big John was a friendly and well mannered horse.
Exploring Yellowstone by horseback is the only way. Unbelievable trail ride with amazing trail guides!! Everyone was so friendly, so welcoming, and so professional. My daughter and I had a blast. Memories to last a lifetime.
Great time horse back riding and good food afterwards. Guides and hostesses w were great.
If you want an experience with some GREAT folks you MUST go. Spent 6 day's and every moment I felt like I was at home. Thank you Susan, Warren and Team for this awesome time.
We did a 1 hour ride and the cookout. It was so much fun. The ranch is very cool with the different wooden buildings and a trophy room full of taxidermy animals. I had a great time. Would definitely return
We try to get on horseback whenever we travel and this was one of the most beautiful landscapes we've enjoyed thus far. We were at first dismayed to see how large the group was, but in the end we all agreed that it added to the experience - It was quite photogenic to see a line of riders against the vast, majestic backdrop of mountains, valleys, and meadows. The horses were great, too - well accustomed to the rocky trails and well chosen for each rider. Our guides were very knowledgeable and kept us safe and moving along at just the right pace. This is a great way to immerse yourself in the area, especially after all the driving that's required within YNP - highly recommended! The drive up to Hell's-A-Roarin' is in itself an enjoyable, scenic drive up the mountains that offers spectacular views.
All I can say, I will go again. If you love horses, outdoors, great people, this is a must go.
A top notch class operation. The guides and owners really know their stuff. When we return to the area we are 100% booking with them again.
Best Horseriding Ever!!
We have been on multiple horse rides throughout the US, Mexico, and Europe. This was by far the best experience ever!! The ranch is nestled high in the mountains. Absorbing the spectacular views was breathtaking. Roland, our guide, was very knowledgeable, professional, and above all fun.
We highly, highly recommend it.
Cannot say enough good things about these folks, I did an elk hunt in 2015 and had the time of my life and harvested a great bull. The guide was fantastic and respectful. Can't wait to go back.
We loved our experience here. Beautiful horses, easy to ride, great staff!
Fantastic staff. Great experience. Would do again.
We brought our five children here to ride. They all had a blast. They range in age from 7-21 and each one of them really enjoyed their trail ride. I was nervous about the 7 year old riding by herself and Aimee took great care of her by instructing her on what to do and allowing her to ride by herself. Aimee is a great an experienced instructor. We are so glad we discovered this ranch and we highly recommend it.
Great ride and the staff is amazing..the young boys are great hars workers.
We had a great time our ride with beautiful views! They were great with our kids. Memories were made that I'm sure will be remembered for years!!
Friendly cowboys, helpful even if you've never been on a horse. Great time
Wonderful time in beautiful country. The horses were all very well cared for and well known by the cowboy guides. Our guide was Ian and I think Brian was the other. Both were very knowledgeable about not only the horses but also about making sure riders were paired with the right temperament of horse. Ian knew a lot about the history of the area and about the flowers and different plants we noticed on our ride. Both were very respectful young men and made the ride that much more enjoyable. Loved everything about this activity!
1 hr horseback ride thru picturesque meadows and then the best steak dinner. This is now our family's favourite event.
Amazing ride! All the staff were super nice and helpful. They made sure we were comfortable and safe. All the horses are very well behaved and sweet. Our guide was friendly and knew a lot about the area.
Beautiful ride and felt super comfortable with the experienced staff. Booked through Flying Pig Adventures, they were incredibly friendly, thorough and well organized.
Wow! Amazing experience for a family. We're 2 adults and 3 teens and everyone was into it. Our guide Maureen couldn't have been any friendlier. Such a pleasure to talk with and engaged the whole family. Horses were well trained making an effortless experience. The whole transitions between groups was seemless and the whole outfit is well organized. 10 stars!
We had a fantastic time on their horseback trail. We had fun and professional guides that pointed out nifty things and fun facts all along the way. Horses were very well behaved which made for a pleasant ride. The whole trail was a beautiful view overlooking Yellowstone. Lots of wild life at a safe distance. I would definitely recommend everyone to check this place out when in the area.
We had an amazing all day riding with nice horses and great cowboys to guide us. Would visit again!
Nice ranch, good story. Liked our guide. Ride was beautiful, good horses, but strictly nose to tail :(
Very beautiful landscapes and a great place to go horseback riding. What I loved the most is that you can tell that they take very good care of these horses. I've been on a lot of horseback rides in many places all over the world and many places you can tell the horses are overworked and treated with very little love and care. But the horses at Hell's A-Roarin were noticeably well cared for, shining and the beautiful creatures they are meant to be. I'm also going to note here that I'm a psychic and an energy healer and can tell when the energy of an animal is in despair or contentment. These horses are happy and enjoy their lives. So, I was very pleased to see this. As for the guides and other staff, they were all very friendly and helpful. As I said earlier, the landscapes are just amazing! So beautiful that a picture can't capture the true beauty that you experience during the ride! I just took it all in! All in all, it was a great experience and I would recommend this place to anyone.
We had a fabulous time on our ride. Our guides Colton and Hartman were wonderful. The scenery was just what we were hoping to expect. You could only get those memories and experiences on a horse. Thank you for a day to remember.
We had a Thursday night horse back ride with Katelyn and Colton as our guides. They were GREAT!! Followed by an awesome cookout. Everyone was friendly and even though it started snowing during dinner it was still great to sit outside under the pavilion with some of the cowboys. We had such good conversations and heard great stories about life on the ranch.
Franks Family
OK, the numbers look better than it was. We bought the 2 hour ride. We got about an hour and a half, the trails were all in the woods (no mountain views) and we were on CLYDESDALE horses. Sorry, Clydesdale are for pulling not riding. Rough and clunky. Hollywood is a good horse, just not much of a trail riding horse. My wifes horse was slow, did not respond to the reigns and was unsure of her footing (she slipped alot). Beautiful place, mostly nice looking horses, we just got stuck with the clunkers. Oh, most important, the road to the ranch is pretty rough, your car will get a workout!!
If you stay at Yellowstone, this Outfitter is worth the trip out of the park. We did the 1hr ride and dinner. Staff was great with everyone, including kids and the food was delicious. Would absolutely do it again.
We did a 2 hour trail ride yesterday and it was by far my favorite part of our Montana honeymoon! Everybody was so nice, the views were incredible, and we plan to come back for an Elk hunt.
Terrible service, very rude to my granddaughter. They promised her a pony ride when the riders returned and blatantly ignored us. What kind of cowboy can break a little girls heart ? Not impressed at all.
All around the best experience! We showed up without reservations, and they accommodated our family of 6 for a one hour ride. Peyton was our guide and he truly made this the highlight of our vacation. We rode, Jake, Anchor, Bojangles, Woodrow, Kangaroo and Punch. Beautiful, wonderfully cared for, gentle, happy horses that really loved their jobs. Highly recommend just visiting this beautiful ranch. Very friendly staff. We really wish we would have made reservations for the sunset ride with the dinner. Next time for sure!
Must do! This place is absolutely worth the trip. All 10 of us agreed this was the highlight of our vacation.
My daughter and wife went on a trail ride and they both enjoyed it. Brenna was a great guide. Britches and Maverick were great horses.
Very beautiful horse ride and scenery but hunter crazy guides who have no respect for wildlife and obeying wildlife policies and laws.
I stayed here with my family (6 people) in the Bear's Den cabin. The ranch itself is immaculate. Warren and his family have an incredible sense of pride-of-ownership! It is just beautiful. The cowboys who helped us (Sam in particular) were helpful and funny. We had dinner and it was delicious (with a little cowboy singing!). Both rides were lovely. Very different locations: 1 wooded, 1 mountain-views. We would highly recommend going and staying over. It was fun to see the baby horses! For sure it was worth the time and money to spend some peaceful time in Warren's paradise! Thanks for a wonderful visit!
These guys were awesome, we called the morning-of and they still made room for us when nobody else could (I'd still recommend booking in advanced. The operation is top-notch, they have a great system down and the location is what really made us love it. Their ranch is set nicely outside of town on the outskirts of Yellowstone which made for an awesome trip. We did the half-day ride and got to see 10-12 miles of amazing scenery we never could've seen otherwise. Highly recommended.
Location and facilities: very nice.
Horses: extremely well trained and taken care of
People: super nice and experienced, couldn't have been better
Actual pic from our ride
We went on a guided horseback fishing trip, which included about a two hour ride into the Yellowstone River canyon where Bear Creek flows into the Yellowstone. My wife and I fly fished for several hours with the help of Cole, our guide. He was patient and was never condescending (my wife is new to fly fishing), which made the experience really positive. We both caught several fish, including a nice 20"+ yellowstone cutthroat, and the scenery couldn't have been better. The ride out was all uphill, and again, the views were spectacular. We each had a horse, and Cole rode his with a pack mule which carried our gear. All were well behaved and the ride was really casual and relaxing.
Cole did an excellent job on the ride and at the river, and conversation was always enjoyable and never awkward. Thank you Cole for an excellent day!!!! We will definitely be back, and hopefully eventually for a guided hunting trip.
My husband is a big guy and Hells A-Roaring was the only outfitter that provided larger horses, thus allowing my husband and I to go on a 2- hour ride in the Yellowstone mountains. Our two young guides were informative and friendly. We were treated to beautiful views and an absolutely enjoyable ride. If you're in the Yellowstone area, this is a must. I hadn't been on a horse in about 40 years and my husband had only been on a horse 2 or 3 times previously but it didn't matter, the ride was easy enough for any riders.
We booked a tent here for 2 days and ended up staying 3! This was the most perfect place for our family's vacation. We have 3 little girls and although we couldn't do any of the long horse rides we still had a wonderful time! We were shown so much hospitality and the cowboys, owners, and the other workers were wonderful with the kids. My girls did not want to come home and are still talking about it. My two year old still talks about Sam, one of their beautiful golden retrievers. This was again a PERFECT place for our family to stay. We did not expect what we got. This will be a place we remember forever. Thanks Hell's A Roarin!
Had a fantastic time with 3 friends from the UK on the 2 hour ride. It was absolutely beautiful and Morgan and Melody were amazing guides.
Best place to visit if your going to visit Yellowstone for vacay. The people are nice also like there s really hot kids there. But anyways if you take the 6 hour trip they give you a free lunch bag and a free cup which you can take also if you don t like mustard you can barely taste it on the sandwich but let me just say they give you two homemade baked cookies a snicker chips and apples also a soda. Really awesome place to go to have fun also (ik his name but) a 15 year old is hot him and his sister are very talkative which makes the trip better and their voices are so calm. But this place deserves to be visited and a 5 star
You will never have such a awesome experience elsewhere. Hell's A-Roarin is THE BEST outfitter in the greater Yellowstone area you will find. The staff are exceptionally skilled, knowledgeable and kind. You are treated first class to an experience you will never forget. I will be going back soon.
We had a wonderful experience at this mountainside ranch! Nothing like riding through a mountain in Montana. Beautiful scenery, great guides, & a wonderful staff.
Great staff, really nice and relaxing ride. The scenery was AMAZING! We did the cookout, the food was awesome and we met fantastic people, sang and cooked marshmellows around the campfire. I would definitely do it again.
We had the pleasure experiencing and participating in a four day excursion into the Beartooth wilderness with Warren as our guide. The time was a transformation for our family of four. Warren Johnson is unsurpassed in his knowledge and experience of the Yellowstone area, his work ethic, and exceedingly high standards of care for his guests. My wife is a diminutive 4' 11" tall - she was apprehensive of riding a horse - Warren literally moved heaven and Earth to make her experience not just great - but a triumph for her personally. Hell's A Roarin outfitters will show you what real Western mountain life is all about - while allowing you the opportunity to observe and experience at whatever level you decide. Warren and Hell's A Roarin' are the top people on the planet in what they do - you will not find a more beautiful place and people with higher standards for their customers and a most excellent work ethic - well done!
My Son (9yrs) and Daughter (5yrs) had so much fun and said by far the best part of the trip. The staff was amazing friendly and the horses were well behaved. Even if you feel like you might not be able to handle it you will enjoy it. Been to other places like this and this one is by far the best. Saw lots of elk and the views are some of the best. I give it 10 stars
So much fun! The cowboys/cowgirls are super friendly, knowledgeable and awesome!
My group went on a 2 hour horseback riding with Payton and Grayson. Both were awesome and knowledgeable about the horses and the areas around the ranch that we were taking. We all enjoyed the ride so much, it's definitely something that I will never forget!
We went there 4 people. 2 men 2 kids. There were 3 family in the line, had been waiting for the horses. Later on many people arrived to the ranch and they went back of the line. There were many people behind us on the line (35-40)I don t want to know why but we were the last people who finally got the horses after waiting 35-40 minutes on the line. We tipped a person who really took care of the kids who scared during the ride and we really appreciated him. After our vacation we went back home and thought why they gave us the horses after all the people got their horses and let us waited that long. Even though we were on the line after 2 family. Then we understood that possible they thought we were gay partner with 2 kids. And also while we were waiting on the line, my nephew told to one of the rancher that after he asked he is from san francisco :)).
We like the ride. But we didn t like that they had put us at the end of the line. We know that they pick the people base on the horses size. But that can t be an excuse bec they have so many horses for any size of people.
Honestly, this is not the first time that we felt uncomfortable how people stared us during our vacation in the cafe or taking pictures together in that beautiful national park. Thats why i always tell my niece and nephew that call me in the public uncle not just my name. Because people dont think that divorced brothers and kids could also travel together.
My wife and I had a blast! We are still talking about it! Great place, wonderful people, awesome food and lovely horses & scenery. I certainly recommend it. We'll be going again one day!
We did the 1 hour horse tour. Beautiful views and a well kept ranch. We had very young guides and one of the horses seemed to be having a bit of an off day, but overall a nice place.
Very friendly staff. Guides will tell you about the area. Had a great time. Kids first time on horse and all horses were gentle.
Great staff, very friendly and knowledgeable. I recommend them for horseback riding wants and needs.
Really nice ride. The guides are extremely helpful and strive to help you have a good comfortable time. The area is amazingly beautiful and quiet too.
Had an awesome time here with my girlfriend. Ethan took us out on a 3 hour trail-ride that crossed over the border into Yellowstone. He had a ton of stories, information, and history to tell about every location we passed. Plus, it was absolutely beautiful. I'd do this again in a heartbeat!
My wife had a excellent time horseback riding. She was a beginner and staff was outstanding! I would highly recommend. Great experience.
Unrivaled view, great people, good food, memorable ride
Beautiful setting. Two hour ride was great but spent too much time in the forest and not able to see the view as much as would have liked. Also wear bug spray the mosquitoes and horse flies are ferocious
Great hunting , great people . Cant wait to go back !
Cost an arm and a leg but worth it. The views on the two hour ride are spectacular!
