Great beach!!! Good snorkeling. Comfortable room. Good service. Terrific sunsets. Good location-- near other hotels and (small) shopping centers. Quiet in off season (a plus for me). Coast Grill is reasonably priced and has great views.

Great hotel! The rooms were very nice, clean and super relaxing. The staff was super friendly and all the amenities were perfect. I'd definitely stay here again! I took this picture with a cell phone from the hotel lobby. It speaks for itself.

The room and services were great! The only complaint we had was the construction noise during the work day especially when we were in our room and couldn't enjoy the open balcony doors because it was too loud. Other than that, we had a great stay here!

This place is like a dream!!! Expect to feel like royalty as this place is top notch .I honestly believe the only reason this is 4.5 stars is because of the ongoing construction they don't really tell you about. It's wasn't really to big of a deal for us tho we hardly noticed. We were greeted upon late check in with juice and cold cloths. It's a beautiful open air resort with vaulted ceilings and amazing lights . We requested the south tower becuase that was what alot of people were recommending so you don't hear much construction noise. We did get the south tower but we got two queen size beds instead of one king wich kinda sucked but it could have been worse.. Pool's were almost always deserted by 930 which was great but if your looking for a party resort this isn't one. Rooms were awesome!! newly renovated big tv and awesome bathroom with heated seats and all the extra special toilet functions . Doors to the private balcony were pretty cool they have three one glass one screen and a extra one to let just the air in if you wish without the screen. Carpet wasn't new but it's still a super nice room. They were a little stingy on the sugar and cream the first night but left more the other days when housekeeping came in. Also the shampoo and conditioner wasn't great and there wasn't lots but that's just another nit pick. Everything at the resort is super expensive so expect to spend alot to eat. I preffered to pick off the light bite menus for breakfast and then for dinner we ate at the lunch place by the pool to cut down on costs. There are other places you can go down the highway if you rent a car as well. I recommend Queens marketplace they have a cheaper grocery and souvenir shop we went to a few times ! Expect to pay minimum 16 bucks for a drink it's insane !! Beach was a great place to spend your time hotel provides snorkel equipment and other rentals . Think they have valet parking but we just parked ourselves wasn't hard to figure out. Resort is huge so expect alot Of walking but wasn't anything to crazy.. I would highly recommend this place if your looking for a nice place to relax on a beautiful beach and aren't looking to be cheap you won't regret it

The employees saved this review from being 2 stars. Everyone we encountered during our 5-day stay in April was pleasant and professional. One wing was closed with construction ongoing outside. We were placed in a room near the far end of the opposite wing. Unfortunately, the property owners are converting a prior part of the hotel to condos in front of the wing we were in. Construction noise and trees being cut down was noticeable. The lobby bar was under renovation the entire length of our stay. Once the pool bar closed the only options for drinks/snacks was room service or the restaurant.

The new umbrellas by the pool have to be put down when there is even the threat of wind. YES, we had to put the umbrellas down because there 'could' be wind. Again, the employees were professional even though they were getting many complaints.

Redone rooms are pleasant but not incredible when you consider the price. New pools are lovely but if you can't have umbrellas up the only option is full sun or heading to the beach. The new breakfast buffet is very nice and the view from the terrace is fantastic.

Once renovation is done I can see this review maybe going to 4 stars but there is one problem IMHO that is completely subjective. The architecture and decorating of this hotel could be in in Southern California or Florida. There is nothing that makes it feel Hawaiian except for the views. Very odd. On other hand, we went to Mauna Kea Resort for a couple of meals...lovely. We plan to stay there next time and it is also on a beautiful beach.

Hotel it under renovation so check in was a hassle. One of the new pools is not open yet. The hotel is enormous which you may like but I hate the fact that it's a ten minute walk from self parking to the lobby and then a ten minute walk to your room. And still another ten minute walk to the beach. The valet staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms are less baby proof than most hotels (Low shelf etc)

Don't go until June 2018! The whole hotel is under construction, no pool, no restaurants, feels like a dead city.
2 stars because of the nice beach and the fact we got breakfast for free because there was no pool for the kids.

We were just here in february and used the facilities here and at the Mauna Kea resort. No doubt it is a lovely beach and location. Crazy beautiful view out the back as you walk in. But the service was shockingly poor for such a nice looking / expensive place.

I wish I had read the reviews before booking. The construction is SO loud. If noise bothers you don t come here. It is going to be at least 6 months before it s completed. Also, We like to lounge on the beach at the end of the day when it s not as hot but they have someone pick up the empty lounge chairs starting at 4 pm using a 4-wheeler. So you also have this loud engine circling you while you re trying to relax. Last, the furniture in the lobby, around the pools and on the beach is very, very dirty. At this price point they need to hire someone to clean it. Yuk! I ll stay somewhere else next time.

Everything offered by this resort was amazing! Really enjoyed waking up to a beautiful view from the balcony of our room. The beach is soft white sand and the sun sets right on this side so it is the perfect place to catch the sunset. Loved the adults-only infinity pool, so relaxing to lounge there. Did the night snorkel with manta rays through the hotel and it was such an incredible experience. 10/10 would stay here again!!

This resort is luxury paradise at its finest! We stayed in a 2 queen bed with balcony and ocean view and it was just lovely! The staff were all very friendly, especially when booking me last minute in a night snorkel with manta rays. The food at the restaurants was delicious, we really enjoyed our meals there. Hapuna beach is a beautiful soft white-sand beach that is amazing for swimming! The sun sets right off the beach and it can be very relaxing to watch. I really liked that there was a separate pool for those aged 18+ only. It made it a lot more relaxing. Those under 18 years old have a giant pool as well so it is fun for the whole family! Parking was easy and there is also valet available! We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay here again.

Nice once in a lifetime place. As in once. Lots of remodeling going on like a lot of it. A bit pricey and the breakfast is way too expensive. First timers forget about a breakfast hospitality comp. Got us rooms at like midnight after others cancelled. Booked solid. Don't understand the attraction. A bit far from the water. Most of the staff was very polite.

Overall this is a beautiful resort with great view...

Overall this is a beautiful resort with great views and access to the beach. There are two pools on the property, including a large kids pool and jacuzzi, as well as a newly redone adult pool with jacuzzi. The landscaping makes the environment more tropical and inviting, which builds the natural atmosphere of the location. However, there are a few things that should be improved. The staff in the lobby did not seem to seem to be too knowledgeable about activities in the hotel as well as throughout the island, for example, the star gazing activity that was present on the website, but was never communicated properly to us by the staff. Furthermore, there is no books or information pamphlets to inform us better of activities to do on the island and hotel. Moreover, the golf course was closed, however, was labeled as open on the website. In addition, the staff in the lobby did not seem to be thrilled about the transition to Marriott, as they did not seem to want to converge the points to the new system and did not inform us of the Marriott representative available to give us discounts on dining and other resort activities. We had to find out on our own instead. The dining experiences with good food and picturesque views, was overpriced. For example, at the pool restaurant the tacos were $21, but only included 2 medium sized tacos and were nothing special. Subsequently, the coffee bar was disappointing in terms of the coffee itself, as it tasted watered down. On the bright side, the hot dog and the turkey wrap were excellent and tasted good. The barista at the coffee bar was unable to make any smoothie until after 11 A.M., due to the person in charge of smoothies not being present at the time. There was also no menu available to see. Moreover, it would be much appreciated if there was a gift shop that stayed open last 6 P.M., as guests have to leave the hotel in order to get certain necessities in the evening. As a whole, this hotel has always been great to visit with magical views and great
pools, but once the transition to the new name
and renovations are complete, I m sure the hotel can go back to being an exceptional 5 star resort.

Big, comfortable room (we had a premium Ocean front). Friendly staff. Food options are limited and expensive, but that goes for the area in general. There are a few resorts around with more food options, but we enjoyed the places outside the resorts as well.

Very peaceful atmosphere, great view, and staff are very polite and helpful. Our room was nice but the style is a little dated. The only really annoying thing was that the hallway our room was located in was always very windy and it would rattle the door all night. But overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Location is very inconvenient. The staffs are very unfriendly and careless. We stayed for 8 nights, first night, we saw a crock roach, and I told the front desk lady, she carelessly told me it s normal, because they on the island, she said she can spray for me. So I took the suggestion. And on the 7th night, when I wake up midnight I saw another huge roach in the bathroom! They really need to do some deep cleaning! The video shows the small roach we saw first night. And I gave up to take a picture for the huge roach later. I will not consider going back to that hotel again ever!

I came out for a wedding and I loved staying at the resort. The rooms are large and have a large tv that you can use with Netflix, YouTube, and a few other services. The room has a beautiful view of the ocean. Staff are all wonderful and kind. The only thing that bothered me was that there was construction outside my room for new buildings or condos.

Stunning views from all windows and balconies! Outdoors, there's two pools including an adult infinity pool and a kid's swimming pool, along with two restaurants and a side path that leads you to a gorgeous beach. If you ever have the chance, I would highly suggest getting down there in the evenings during sunset, so beautiful! Food was very tasty, each morning there's a breakfast buffet that's worth waking up for! WiFi was speedy and beds were comfortable!

This is my favorite resort in the whole entire world. Period. Location is the best. Gorgeous view. Excellent facilities. Staff is friendly and accommodating and extremely helpful. The hotel is so beautiful... Clean, simple, classic. Stark contrast to one of the exhausting more-is-more resorts in the area.

Just only came back from Hapuna and Hawaii two days ago due to being there on business. The hotel is incredibly beautiful and the facilities are very good. The 'fast' internet which you have to pay for (although this was included in our conference costs) is pathetically slow.
The prices are massively inflated so if you are due to holiday there or on business - take a decent amount of money.
The sea is wonderful, the pool isn't bad (no deep end!) and the wildlife is fun to watch.
All in all, very very very nice!

The architecture capitalizes on the great beach location to provide views of white sand and blue water in the daytime, followed by the tropical sunset over the water. Towels and outdoor showers are conveniently situated by the beach. Snorkeling is worthwhile.

Fantastic view upon check-in, and friendly staff. SPG/Marriott status amenities are granted at check-in as well. The rooms are nice, on par with any other Westin property we have visited. Restaurants and resort property overall are solid. We visited during December 2018, and there was a fair bit of construction noise throughout the week day, with almost none on the weekend. They are renovating a section of the property.

Hotel grounds are beautiful and the beach is equally fantastic! Highly recommend staying here when coming to the big island.

We booked for two weeks at this beautiful beach on our third journey to Hawaii and were received by a huge construction site full
of jackhammer noise all day long.
The construction situation is lastig already since 1.5 years and the Management of Marriott never informs travel agents of guests home countries nor online bookers about it. This we came to know also from other guests staying here at the same time. Many of them felt ripped off as the hotel doesn't offer any discount rates due to the inconveniences.
Besides this, the gardeners work with jet blowers and wake you up early in the morning around 6 o'clock - while the beach boys are forced by the management to pack away all strandbeds and umbrellas from 3 p.m. on (all with a lot of noise and their Quads with running motors). No "Hawaiian feeling" is possible under such circumstances.
We had a lot of talks to local people and staff who all were friendly and felt sorry for that. They called this Hotel the "number one complaint on the island".....Here in the Westin is mainly no focus on hospitality, only on money making.

Overall, nice experience of staying at this place. Pros: fabulous view of Hapuna Beach from hotel and very friendly staff;
Cons: on top of daily resort fee, self parking is charged at $25 per day; and if you stay at North tower, walking to your room from garage is kinda far away.
Comment of the ongoing construction: the hours of construction are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. If you plan to leave the hotel during the day for other activities, the construction will not bother you a lot. But if you plan to spend majority of your day time in the resort, there will be some noise even if you go to the south side of the building.

My wife and I arrived at the Hapuna Beach Resort o...

My wife and I arrived at the Hapuna Beach Resort on the day of it's reopening as a Westin property. We were excited to spend our honeymoon at one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. I had informed the person while making my reservation that we would like a romantic view of the ocean and after discussing rates, we decided to go with the "ocean view" room as it was a special occasion. We had never been to Hawaii together.

Upon check in, I could see that the lobby and hotel in general was very quiet. There was no line to check in and only a small crowd in the pools. Our room was not ready though so we had lunch down by the pool while they got it set up.

After a leisurely lunch, I had still not heard from the front desk so we went up to see what was happening. The front desk person told us that because of our wait, we would get a nice upgrade. That was super news for us as we were excited to get settled and start our vacation.

As we walked to the room, I realized that we were going to the far end of the hotel which felt like a solid 100 yards from the front desk. Normally, I am thrilled to have a corner room but the view left a lot to be desired. We had a view of the parking lot for the public beach and a slice of blue ocean. It had been well over an hour since we had arrived and my wife was completely bummed with the room. It was then that we heard the chainsaw kick off and realized that there were workers directly below us.

I call the front desk and requested a room change. They kindly set us up with a BEAUTIFUL room with an AMAZING view on the other side of the hotel. There were still workers nearby, but it wasn't nearly as intrusive. All told, it took more than 2 1/2 hours to get checked into our room. I really wish they would have just given us the nice room to begin with. It looked like they were at 40% occupancy and there was no need to stick a honeymoon couple in one of the worst ocean view rooms in the entire hotel. We didn't even seem to have neighbors in our new room which further exasperated the situation as I figure there were clean available rooms sitting open while we were dropping $70 on lunch at the pool for a couple drinks, poki and a mediocre flatbread. Our plan was to check in then head over to the Mauna Kea and eat at the Hau Tree which is an incredible spot for lunch.

On our final evening, we were to meet the shuttle to go to our fancy dinner at the Mauna Kea. My wife was in the bathroom getting ready and at around 5:45 or 6PM an alarm began to go off throughout the hotel with the accompanying cryptic message that there was an emergency and we were in imminent danger. We don't know if it's a fire, volcano issue, terrorist situation, incoming ICBM from N Korea so we haul ass to the front desk to find out what is going on. I guess we were one of the few who were worried or there really wasn't very many people staying because there wasn't even a crowd or someone there explaining the situation. It turned out to be a "fire drill". I would like to mention to whoever is reading from the hotel, please don't run your vague emergency drills while people are trying to get ready for dinner. Please let the people staying at your hotel know that this alarm is not indicating a life threatening emergency.

There was no grand opening related to the new Westin branding. There was no gratitude towards the guests who stayed on this first night. It wasn't special.

All of that said, I give the place 2 stars and not 1. The beach is tough to access but absolutely beautiful. I love hiking to Mauna Kea as well. We had a good time all around other than the issues mentioned above and the room we ended up getting was perfect.

I will make my review of the terrible experience at Meridia in another review as I have plenty to say about the rude mater d who accused us of lying about our honeymoon to get a free dessert and the cockroach that ran across our table while the salad was being dropped.

The resort is very nice. The staff is very friendly. Everytime we have been there we have had a wonderful time. They have 2 great restaurants and a small coffee/convenience store which is very reasonable. Every Sunday they have a wonderful gathering of local artists and local products for sale in the lobby.

This was our second time staying at this hotel thi...

This was our second time staying at this hotel this year. Stayed on points both times, and this time our Suite Rewards got us upgraded to a Premier View Queen room. Our room was on the top floor (9) and we could see the water and parts of the beach, even with the building in front of us (more on this later).

The room was clean and nice. Our only complaint was that there were three nightstands but only one bedside lamp. This seemed odd to us, so we asked if they could get us another lamp and they amazing procured one quickly when we called for it at about midnight. The only other thing we noticed that was odd is that there is a beautiful lanai, but no lighting on it. So basically it can only be used during the daylight hours unless you want to sit in the dark.

Other things to note:

There are no ice machines accessible to guests, you need to call service express to get ice... which we did multiple times a day and they were always quick and friendly with delivery.

There is still construction going on at the private residences in front of the hotel, which means construction noise. The noise was much much better than when we were here in Feb 2019, but is still occurring. It is most noticeable from the beach. We ended up spending one day on the resort chairs and were for the most part were able to ignore it, but the next day walked the .75 mile trail to Mauna Kea beach to escape the noise. The trail was well marked and beautiful with a few historical markers along the way. Highly recommended.

As a Marriott Platinum member we selected the complimentary breakfast each morning (definitely worth more than the other option of 1000 points a night). Breakfast options were fantastic. Even if it wasn t free I would considered eating at least one breakfast here at the normal price of $37 per person.

The resort is on its own location wise. They offer a nightly shuttle to the sister property, but the food options are still a little lacking. We mostly ate in Kawaihae and/or Waimea.

Overall, it was a very relaxing stay and we enjoyed ourselves greatly. 4 stars for the construction noise and food options.

I'm basing this rating on my visit in July 2016. After a couple days there, I would have given it 4 stars. It was dated and the rooms smelled a little musty which I'm sure was from visitors going to the beautiful beach and the pool. It was a good experience, but not worth 5 stars at that point. My wife I got married on the beach there and then we went out to dinner the next night and she got food poisoning. The hotel staff and service was WONDERFUL. It was late when we got back to the hotel and the shops were not open, but we called the desk to find out if there was anywhere to get some ginger ale and some trash bags for unpleasantries. They were more than accommodating and brought them to our room within minutes. They even provided us with detailed directions to the nearest hospital if we decided to go which my wife was insisting on not going. The next day they called to check in on us and when I went to the small cafe to grab some breakfast and gatorade for my wife, Tea that was working there was so helpful and nice and didn't charge me for the gatorade when I explained it was for my wife and what had happened. The next day my wife and I went there together and Tea remembered and asked how my wife was doing. I realize hospitality should be expected at hotels and resorts, but our experience with the hospitality here was amazing and Tea deserves special recognition. It was the hospitality that got them the 5 stars and they deserve it. Obviously things can change, people can change and the experience may not be the same. Since it's undergoing renovations, I'm sure it will be a great place to stay. I honestly can't wait for a chance to go back and this would be where I would choose to stay again.

This hotel is optimally located on Hapuna beach, the beach with the best sand I have found on the big island. Very picturesque hotel. The corridor is always behind the rooms so every room has a view of the beach, although sometimes rooms have partial views.

Rooms are very nice. Two nice pools. Can walk down to the beach. Perfect.
