This place has mailed me letters non stop about payments that I need to make for court fees after my case was closed. I called a number which was on the paperwork that was mailed to me. As seen by other reviews this place is very suspicious in what they do and how they act. I told them to stop mailing me letters about what I already know. I know what I owe so stop reminding me. The number is not affiliated with Harris & Harris Ltd. It's more of a toll free number . Seems like a scam. They have a different number on their website. Do not give them any money or information or you can be in danger of being scammed out of thousands of dollars or having your identity stolen, I simply told them I will not be paying the courts any money as they don't deserve money. The court system is a joke. If you want to make payments for your court fines simply go to the county's website and look up your case number. You will have a balance show up of what you owe. You then have a choice of making small or large payments. Careful with this website guys. Dont call the toll free number. Thanks for hearing me out! Have a good one

I'd give negative stars if I could. Their CS rep was one of the worst trained and worst tempered reps I have ever spoken too. Tried to scam extra $ from me claiming it's the original merchant that does this and not them(reached out to merchant and confirmed it was bs). Still waiting on a call from a supervisor

Received letter on a cell phone ticket and a call from them. I don't believe the courts use collection agencies for unpaid tickets. I called and they were polite. Will update once I goto the court house.

BEWARE ABSOLUTELY FRAUDULENT!!! I payed in full an...

BEWARE ABSOLUTELY FRAUDULENT!!! I payed in full an account with them over a month and a half ago! When I inquired the third week in March a month after I payed the account in full I was told they had another two weeks to make sure the "payment was successful". It has now been almost a month since that phone contact in March and it is still showing on my bureau! AGAIN ABSOLUTELY FRAUDULENT BEWARE.

Update: I spoke with a lady named Stacey. She informed me that the lady I spoke with before posted my payment to the wrong account, and that she had posted it to my "other account" which I know nothing about. How do you post a payment to the wrong account after I gave specific instructions to put that money towards the account I wanted to pay and not towards the account I knew nothing about?? Very unprofessional. I will be contacting the BBB over this. Absolutely unacceptable.

I called about a Promedica Medical Bill that Harrison Harris was handling as an extension to Promedica. My account was not in collections but Harrison Harris is just representing Promedica and they are still short on the phone, both the phone reps and the supervisors lie on the phone, they are rude and nasty and are short and hang up on you. What a terrible company!

I set up payment arrangements with them and was having it automatically withdrawn and they still reported this to my credit. I called in and she said it is reported until they are paid in full. She wouldn t even let me speak, kept interrupting me so I will not pay on this bill any further. If I could give them a no star I would.
Update: I told them to stop the automatic draft and she said she did but yet they are still drafting it.

I spoke with Alyssa... who at first was so pleasant and working with me. But then when I wouldn t make a payment because I have not seen one piece of mail from from saying this debt She proceeded to tell me I would t get mail until i gave money. I am not paying money on a bill I haven t seen before. And then that I would be receiving double the calls than I am now.

Didn t realize asking for a piece of mail was too much for a business to do.

I got a call on my cell while I was at work today. I m 22 and have never dealt with a collections agency before and the woman I spoke to was so sweet and understanding and talked me through my sobs. I ve owed a couple hundred in court fees but have been unable to afford it, she reassured me there was no reason to panic and I could set up as payment plan with them as soon as I get my next paycheck. When she asked if I had friends or family that could help me and I (again) broke down in tears saying no my family doesn t talk to me because I m gay she said oh no honey that s completely okay. Sometimes I wish my family didn t talk to me. We had a laugh and she continued on with her job of telling me what my next steps are. I wish I remembered her name to give her a personal shout out. Truly such a sweet and caring woman.

This is the worst company to work for especially if your a single mother with small kids. I just got fired due to the my daughter had to be rushed to the hospital. She had the flu so I had to take off of work. They do not work with you if your single mother. Even though my performance exceeded their expectations. Worst company ever !!!!!

To everyone: Do not set up a payment plan or negotiate with the company, they will report you to credit agencies anyway. My experience: I had a 300.00 hospital bill that I didn't realized I owed sent to this collection agency. OK, I payed them half and set up a payment plan that would have the remainder paid off in 3 months. They took the money and reported me to a credit agency after taking the first payment. When I called, they were apathetic and acted like they could care less, just stating that they report after 2 months, so a payment plan of 3 months would not suffice for them not to call and report the debt as "collections" to the credit bureaus. Destroyed my FICO score. All of this while trying to find a job during COVID-19. Nice guys.

I don't owe Harris & Harris anything but they sent me a letter saying that I owed them money for their creditor. My creditor States I have a zero balance also so I don't know if these idiots are going to put it on my credit report or not but I'm not giving them $1,100.

I make a payment of $50 to Harris and Harris weekly ,always on time. Never had any issues other than the fact that my rep only says mhm, bye after collecting my payments. I simply asked for a transfer to a supervisor so my account could be handled by a rep with more phone skills.
I was transferred to supervisor Lisa Flores, who also needs retrained on phone etiquette . This lady just told me her collection rep doesn t have to say please or thank you or be polite because they re a collection company.. Harris and Harris is the worse. I m calling IU health to let them know about this and hopefully they ll let a better collection company handle their accounts.

I worked here for about a year and a half, not as a collector. It's an absolutely horrible place to work. They treat their employees with disrespect. Other employees talk badly about each other on the floor and management does nothing about it. Pay is a joke. I had a huge amount of responsibility (was replaced by three people) and was paid only $13/hr.

As for how they treat their customers/debtors, that really varies by the collector. Some collectors are understanding and conscientious. The majority are only out for the payment, no matter how they get it (and honestly, due to how they are paid and how readily they are fired for not making goal, it can be understood).

Unfortunately, I have had to deal with Harris & Harris twice in the last 10 years or so. Both times the agent seems a little unfriendly until they understood I wasn t running from my bills. Then I believe they were a little above average people to talk to. All in all, not a terrible experience.

This is a trash tier collections agency. Obviously no one likes Collections, but this company makes your blood boil. Incredibly rude and intentionally deceptive. I'd give this business negative stars if it was possible. Any employees should be ashamed and move to a different employer.

Got a couple of letters, some phone calls in which I did not answer because I knew who it was an I know I owed the money that they where trying to collect, called Harris & Harris an spoke to a very friendly and professional woman named Serina,
paid my bill an that was that. They never contacted my work or bothered any of my friends or family. 5 stars.

This suppose to be a collection agency, but they have so many things going on and never get to the payment app to submit payments. It's crazy all I want to do is make a payment on a bill, this is the worst collection app I have ever seen. They harrasse you two or more times a day but can't set up a payment app so customers can pay they're debts easy.

Actually 0 stars.... I spoke with a representative of this company about a year ago regarding payment arrangements regarding a debt that they would not disclose information on unless I provided them with my SSN, DOB, Address, Name, etc. In order to even consider giving these people my information I would like to know what it is that they are collecting on, and if the debt is even legit. Now this company continues to call me & hang up when I answer. I call them back and they hang up on me. I have no idea what debt they are trying to collect but they continue to call then hang up on me.

They literally call all of my phone numbers at once every single time at all hours of the day and night. Seriously, three phones suddenly ringing off the hook. I attempted to make arrangements and they said they couldn't take any less than $600/month. I'm on disability and get less than $1000/month. I told them getting something was better than nothing and I send in a payment every month but the calls never stop. I don't know where they think the money to pay this is going to come from.

Immediately after I moved into my house they started calling me about debt owed by someone else that used to have that phone number. Once I called back to let them know and someone told me they would document that on their records. I still got the automated calls. I have been getting automated calls from them over someone else's debt for over 5 years. If it was possible to rate them zero stars I would.

Harris & Harris is repeatedly calling me for a false debt collection from IU Health Neurology. I told them that I have verified with IU Health that I do not owe any balance on my account. However Harris & Harris continues to call me despite that I told them not to do so -- latest call was this morning. Also the prior time that I spoke with their representative, she told me the debt had been reported to the credit reporting companies!!! My latest statement of account from IU Health for October 2018 shows On page 1 that there is $5k+ pending with the insurance company. On page 2 it shows this claim was denied for a date of service nearly 2-years ago because the provider at IU Health Neurology failed to get the MRI approved by the insurance company. I recall getting a letter from the insurance company years ago stating that I am not responsible for this bill. Furthermore, I have had problems with Harris & Harris a month or so ago attempting to collect debt that I already had paid. They are a business that has very unfair business practices and collection practices. And they really should be looked into and fined or closed down for repeated violations of the FDCPA. Many people who are ill, disabled, or senior are being taken advantage of by them, I suspect, based on my experience and based on complaints I have read on the web. And I am quite sure at this point that I have overpaid on bills that were falsely collected by them for IU Health.

FYI, according to Lemburg Law, as of April 2017, the Better Business Bureau reported 104 closed Harris & Harris complaints over the previous three years, including 30 closed H&H complaints over the previous 12 months. The BBB gave H&H A+ rating. Additionally, Justia listed 16 complaints filed in federal court in the previous year alleging violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, one alleging violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and two alleged violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. Moreover, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) listed 93 closed complaints in 2016.

Report Harris & Harris to your state attorney general, the IL state attorney general, the Better Business Bureau, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. You could be eligible to receive up to $1k if they are violating the FDCPA.

Years ago, I sent in a check for $50 that I somehow acquired with them and they sent it back and said I never had an account with them. Which is strange, because I got called and a "HARRS&HARRIS" collection was on my credit report. Never knew how I got into collections, never got a call or bill from the original party I owed. Disputed that off my report, all is fine. NOW, they call my mother as a first contact instead of me first? I'm 23, shouldn't have called her in the first place. A week later, they call me today. They're telling me I owe $392 which, again, I never got any calls or a bill for. The person over the phone told me I was billed in November of last year and sent to collections in Spring of this year. It's NOVEMBER. Why am I just now hearing about this? Not sending them my money this time. What a joke.

I returned their message, but when they input my phone numbers, , they could find nothing, which makes sense as I have no bills overdue. So they said they wouldn't call anymore. A few weeks later, they started again, so I called and we discussed the situation to the same end - nothing to locate, they would stop calling. But now I'm getting calls again. And it's getting on my last nerve. I reported them to the BBB because I can't get this handled myself.

Why would they called me and claim that they were calling from the ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE? The lady, Barbara, was asking me so many questions that THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. Luckily I didn t gave her any of my bank account information and declined to give any other information until I speak with my accountant. She wasn t letting me go until I either pay in full or agree to do payment plans.

I know people are usually giving out 1 star (0 if they could!) reviews for companies like this, collections is a difficult job, but I honestly had a good experience. I was able to work out a payment plan that met my budget and was walked though the entire process in an easy and professional manner. Joi was honestly so helpful in getting me itemized statements as well as clearing up any questions I had about the account. I d like to never have to get a call from them again, I ve learned some better financial skills, but it wasn t a terrible experience! The only thing I thought that could be improved upon was when a monthly payment is set up that it be withdrawn on the same day each month. I did notice sometimes a payment would be taken the 15th, the 19th or even as late as the 27th! I was anxious a payment hadn t been collected, but a quick phone call eased my anxieties right away. Seriously great service and professional staff. Can t say it enough!

I had cancer and even after insurance ended up owing quite a bit. Harris & Harris got the account. We made payment arrangements. I was told this would not be reported to credit agencies. I made every payment as scheduled - even extra. Then I got a nice letter stating I was about to be reported if I didn't pay in full. I was also told that I had never been told that in the first place even though I specifically asked. My request to listen to the tape of that conversation was denied. Now my credit will be ruined. I do not like being misinformed.

They set up a prearranged payment plan with me, all charges and fees were laid out in the beginning, then as I make my last payment, they hit me with another $600 in charges and say it s their admin and processing fees. Bs! Then the idiot I spoke to couldn t form a coherent sentence just kept bumbling over his words as I called him on his lies. My attorney will be contacting them very shortly

I have never had a problem with them! My collector has worked wonderfully with me, has not harassed me, and all of my payments have been processed and credited - even though I've mailed checks. I do have 2 complaints - the first is the charge for "over the phone payments" - I understand a processing fee that you pay to provide this option, but it's a convenience matter - why charge for convenience? Also, there seems to be a long lapse between mailing a payment and having it actually processed - this could be our postal system though :-)

My credit card had an unauthorized charge of 200ish groceries charge from Walmart the next day after the call with them. We never go to Walmart. The only thing I can think of is the woman in the call asked for my credit card information.
