Probably the most expensive reuse and recycle place I've ever been to. I guess you're expected to negotiate but I never have since the prices are so out of wack. Not many deals to be had but a neat place to visit.
An extremely diverse amount of different items. Books, clothes, appliances, and furniture are in abundance. Honestly worth a visit for finding bargains and just good finds. It's located in the building where Pathmark used to be.
The staff may seem a bit tired but they have a really good selection here of doors, chairs, kitchen features, wall sconces and more things for your home. The prices can vary depending on the quality or age of the pieces. They also have almost their entire selection listed on the website where you can see photos and call ahead to make sure things are still in stock. It's a bit removed from main traffic areas, so if you buy a number of things be sure to arrange for a car ahead of time.
I always feel prices are unrealistically high. I love where the heart and concept of this place is but I always have more success elsewhere. Particularly for furniture pieces.
This is a great place to go looking for unique period items. They've also got "like new" kitchen cabinets, appliances, etc. Staff are helpful and friendly.

It is a great win, win, win situation for the people that donate the items (they get a tax break), money to purchase the items donated goes towards the Non-Profit funds of Big Reuse, and the customers get deep discounts on unique items that they might otherwise not be able to afford. Great place!!!
worth frequent visits to find what you need. they are constantly refreshing their stock with furniture (that appears to be) from movie sets and west elm photoshoots, plus some super funky so-bad-its-good vintage wooden furniture. prices are quite reasonable, but look out for couches that are only part of a sectional or cupboards that are missing a few shelves. If you're good at hacking furniture and reupholstering or repurposing. . you've hit the jackpot
A great find to get refurbished or somewhat used items. Friendly staff. Wide selection of things for everyone including the little stuff and household furnishings and electronics
Definitely one of the coolest places I have been in NYC for thrifting or otherwise!! Especially if you are looking to renovate, remodel or just grab something funky, this is an excellent place to go. Super cheap way to replace some hardware, especially right across from Lowe's, stop here first for a cheap fix or DIY inspiration. They get a lot of designer furniture and decor here, but rotation is fast so check often! Definitely a lot cheaper to find luxury stuff. Be sure to check around the nooks and crannies, that's often where I have found my favorite things.
Prices are good for the quality of stuff they get in here: small items are unbelievably cheap, bigger furniture is high quality and well priced.

We donated kitchen cabinets to Big Reuse. The process was smooth, the people were kind, it saved us a ton of time and money, and we didn't contribute more waste to the world. Highly recommended. Also the store is filled with tons of interesting stuff, so this place is great for both donating and buying!
I m a fan. Been going there for years. Bought three full sets of kitchen cabinets for renovations over the years.
I find solutions to renovation projects here and return regularly to see what s new that has come in. I especially like the out of ordinary fixtures both plumbing fixtures and lighting.
I came here for the organics presentation and found a thrift shop here that McLemore would approve of. Organics comes up with new & better ideas on how to recycle food stuffs so they dont end up as methane emissions in the landfill. We just gotta do our part. I love going to their presentations to learn more about how i can do my part.
We ve donated multiple large items to Big ReUse on two different occasions. They were great to deal with. Both times they sent a truck with two movers, who were very professional. We were so happy that our furniture, display cases and other items were going to a good cause and then on to people that would use them, instead of into a landfill. Highly recommended!

Awesome store for people that are big fans of DIY. Merchandise here is leaps and bounds beyond the Salvation Army. Commercial kitchen appliances an even a vintage vending machine were available the day I came for a visit.
Good but limited variety of items. More like a thrift store. Not enough salvaged or reclaimed wood. Astoria location is reportedly closed but they had a better selection of planks, doors and salvaged demolition items with more personable employees. One guy here needs to be fired, the rest of the staff were helpful and pleasant.
I called to ask about windows, and the guy hung up on me immediately. Not great service if there mission is to sell reused items.

Always an adventure. It's my first stop when I'm looking for an item. I love that I'm not buying something new but REUSING something that is perfectly ready to do the job I need and (in addition to the environmental impact aspect) it has a positive impact on my wallet, too! Worse case, if they don't have what you need you can pop into Lowes next door. So far, I've always found what I was looking for at BIG REUSE. Ladder, lamp shade, microwave, desk, etc. Mike is especially helpful.
This place is awesome! There is an endless stream of items coming through here and every time I visit I find something that could be used as a gift or for redecorating
I love this place!! The Big Reuse is a Brooklyn treasure, I would love to keep it a secret and tell noone it even exists! I often feel like when a business moves to a new location that usually changes the business. The customers change, the staff changes, the inventory changes. This is not the case with The Big Reuse, they have managed to maintain all the nuance, novelty, and charm if you will of their former location. Thanks to the great staff it remains at the top of my favorite places to shop, browse, and be inspired to DIY.

The best kept secret for anyone who's interested in interior decorating on a budget. Over the years I've bought so many things from them... a 9ft section of bowling alley for a table, a vintage enamel kitchen sink, a giant mirror & frame, an 8ft long chest, church pews I made into shelves... All for a fraction of the cost. Keep recycling
Used furniture, books, plates, lamps, paint (various) & paint samples, records, thread, chairs, etc. Etc. A thrifter's heaven. I think you can possibly renovate your house or apartment from items in this place. Today I bought 5 industrial size spools of thread, some fabric,2 small coffee burlap sacks, it came to all of $16!!! I liked some of the furniture pieces but no car or van at the moment. Oh well. Big Reuse is a short walk from the Smith- 9th Street (F/G train) station. I will definitely go back, with a car nxt time.
I thought this place was awesome UNTIL...it turns out if you don't know plumbing parts in and out then you will end up wasting your money here. I bought two toilets and 1 pedestal sink with faucet, good brands but the toilets were missing some major parts (not visible to the novice) and when the sink had been uninstalled whoever did it wrenched the thing out and bent a pipe so that the faucet is unsuable! So what good is buying stuff at a discount if you then end up paying full price just to replace the parts!!!???? They should more deeply discount the products and make it very clear that you shouldn't buy it if you aren't an expert in the product you are buying.
I ve been going to this place for a long time now. They are honest people... one of my clients forgot money on the counter, while backtracking the steps where we had been that day, Build It Green (before the name change) returned my call to inform me he left it on the counter. The new place is shaping up nicely. I suggest frequent visits because the inventory changes. Glad to know places like this exists. Keep up the great work!
I love coming in the store because you never know what you're going to find. It's a giant Warehouse of items that are to be reused. They've come from building sites and I guess houses and they are all there to be recycled and reused in new projects They have everything from doors to sinks to bathtubs to furniture to lamps to homewares and more and more and more. Sometimes it's fun just to go and see what they
I did find a door for a bathroom cabinet for five bucks that looks really good in my house now. Some of the prices seem high but there are lots of Bargains to be had as well.
This place is another great resource for people on a budget (or just smart and crafty) who are looking to furnish, or even rehab their home.
I've been using big reuse for years to help furnish my homes, find new projects to rehab and I always come away from here with something interesting, even if it's just a book.
I do miss their other locations in Brooklyn and queens as I feel they had a lot more home renovation materials, but now seem more focused on home furnishing.
Great prices, great staff, always a way to kill time, or check out something different before heading to ikea.

Now I'm not saying this will happen to you everyday, but Rob not only cut pieces of wood for me, but he also took the time to drill said wood into a little shelf for my desk. Plus, on top of that, it was a little past closing time. In other words, these guys get the job done, support their customers and do it all at a really low cost. Very happy with the experience.
Place is sort of a joke. Prices are as if they bought the stuff, restored it, and sold it. Very disorganized, basically impossible to even see if you like anything. They store stuff like it s a junk yard. Do yourself a favor and skip the trip to Gowanus. There are a bunch of much better reuse stores in nyc.

Looks like an interesting space. Just stopped in briefly to pick up some compost I requested from "the city". Can get there by transit but will need a car or van to get items to another destination.
We will never shop at Big Reuse again. As long time customers and donors, I m sorry to say, the treatment we received after 4 years of loyalty was our LAST dealing with Big Reuse.
All could have been avoided if the warehouse Director wasn t so arrogant.
BIG Reuse is a good place to check out its on Hamilton Avenue in Brooklyn for all things like books,electric, furniture etc as well as indoor and outdoor things you can also donate anything old or new they take Credit Cards and Cash
I lost track of all the items I bought there to keep my renovation costs under control. Appliances, doors, even a bathtub. Best to go with an open mind and not be afraid to keep going back as they keep receiving new stuff. Reminds me of a Karlin skit about other people's stuff
