First time flying into Canada(Sep 2018). Our experience with customs was well above my expectations. Everyone there is so friendly, definitely nothing like the states. Small airport but everything seems to be done right for the size. I would fly back here in a heartbeat.

Easy to get through. Local coffee served. Check out the independent coffee shop. Very clean and easy to navigate. A number of great shops. Be there before 9pm to get some good local lobster. Otherwise stores start closing. Considering this to be a fairly large travel hub, it would be nice to have the retailers opening a little later than 9pm.
The food court has a good selection to grab a bite before sitting in the Departure lounge.
Also a perk, the kids play area in departures. Good for sensory play. Small enough to keep them in close sight but also offering a good variety of colours and toys to keep them entertained!

The airport is fine, but the PORTER airline is too disgusting. Each of us is just a shoulder bag, which is replaced with clothes. The airline's counter staff had to pack each backpack into the box for measuring the size of the baggage to see if the volume was over. If it didn't fit, it would cost $51. How can the clothes pack not fit? I have tried several problems. The counter staff of the airlines still want us to continue. We feel that this is deliberately embarrassing. The same package, one can pass, the other is no problem, why should we have one? Don't take PORTER air again in the future!

It's an International Airport, so it's big (not even close to airports like JFK in New York or Dulles in Virginia or Pearson in Ontario. Has all the gift shops, knick knacks and duty free shops expected. Not extremely confusing. Won't and can't rate airlines because they are each a separate company and are not owned or operated by Stanfield International Airport. Airlines should be rated separately from the structure that is YHZ (Halifax Stanfield International Airport). Airport has ample places to get snacks, breakfast - dinner, coffee or a book/magazine to buy and read during your flight.
Building is clean and well maintained, and you can go to the upper "deck" to watch planes arriving and departing.

This is my home airport and it is also one of my favorite small to medium size airports. There is currently construction in the departure area, security screening and baggage claim but airport operations are still moving well. In fact security is probably moving faster with the new baggage scanners. The extension to the departure area will make a much bigger open space in the middle of the terminal just after you come through security when it is finished in mid 2019.

Had my 7 hour layover for a transfer here and is happy with this little but well rounded airport.
There are enough shops to keep me entertained and I can easily find food. The Observation Deck is a must see, I can enjoy my food under a stunning view, and it is quiet enough for me to have a nap before my early morning flight.
The airplane shaped bathroom sink drain is a nice touch, although you can find this in a few other airports too.

Our bitter sweet 8 hour flight delay due to weather was sweetened by exemplary service by an Air Canada manager named John. Upon reaching the gate our family was greeted by a lengthy weather delay when a nice man named John approached us and swung into action. He turned possible frowns of the kids upside down by taking the kids to an air Canada cockpit. Great service Mr Shandy. Well done sir!

A modern airport that pretty much looks like every other airport in North America right down to the Hudson News stands. It was clean, and seemed well organized. It would be great if it was located a tad closer to Halifax, but it has a multitude of connections compared to the rest of Atlantic Canada and wins in that respect.

Goofiest security screening system I have ever encountered, and I travel a lot. Your trays don't go together, they get mixed up with others and it causes a lot of confusion. How could they possibly take something so simple and make it so complicated? And to top it off some of the security officers are rude.

Clean, efficient, well layed out; what more could you ask for? An ideal small Airport with the majority of employees being genuine and kind. If you have any issues the Information Desk has always been helpful for myself and guests.

Great airport. There's enough food, shops, and parking. Security is fairly quick and painless. The design is nice. Only had one problem with the parking ticket machine, where it ate our ticket, but the lady found us in the system.

I had no complaints using the Halifax airport recently. There are OK food options behind security, both in the domestic/international terminal and the US terminal. Neither are spectacular but both are perfectly adequate. While there were only a few outlets, they were there. Both terminals also have enough seating. The free wifi is very decent.

This is a good airport for getting in and out of. Set up well too get through with ease Pleasant staff for the airport and shops and always clean. Pleased to see growth at the airport as well. It's a short jump from the pedway to the door but it can be cold.

DO NOT CHECK BAGS if you are flying out early from Halifax International (YHX) as they will hold you in a queue with a few hundred people until they are ready to start loading bags in the scanning machine. We spent over 60 minutes waiting in a corridor to drop off our bag, time that could have been spent airside drinking coffee and perusing the duty free store. It also delayed our flight. It is both bad business and disrespectful to treat passengers and airport concessionaires like this routinely. It was totally contrary to the rest of our Nova Scotian experience.

Even though the airport seems to be new, internal processes there are horribly organized at least for international departures. I spent 90 minutes just to go through security (check my luggage and carry-on. One economy belt line for 2 international flights is a bad idea. Charging 60 CAD for a cab to the city is the way too expensive and there is no uber too.

The airport is laid out nicely. There are a few boutique stores to grab some local souvenirs.

I find the staff here to be some of the nicest I've come across at an airport. Maybe it's an east coast thing.

Airport is a good long drive from Halifax.

Nice airport with a good choice of stores to buy souvenirs from or to just sit down and relax while waiting for your flight. I like the lobsters store and the fact that I can check in almost 35 minutes before my flight and can still make it in time to board the plane. Nice little airport.

Cab fares are obscene, the connection to city bus ...

Cab fares are obscene, the connection to city bus system slow, parking rates high, and the Maple Leaf lounge cannot be accessed if you're flying to the US. And you walk an awful lot for such a small airport. My third *least* favourite airport in Canada for usability and cost after Calgary and Toronto (and I've flown in and out of all of them from Victoria-size and up). Oh, and the new "road improvements" make it much more awkward to use than before (and it wasn't great before....for instance if you go to pick someone up on the lower pickup road and find their flight is late you have to drive around the *entire* airport before you can enter into a parking area....moronic).

Stuck here for 6 hours waiting for a ride. There is not one electrical plug or outlet in this whole place that works to charge your phone. How about some maintenance? Do you not clean either? The bathroom has some oatmeal someone tried to rinse out in the sink, it s obviously been there for days as the sink is infested with fruit flies. If your not going to maintain this place to public standards then shut it down.

Our flight is delayed for over an hour. We're stuck in the airport, not fun for anyone. However, we discover an oasis of calm accessible via elevator just before security. It is Halifax Airport's observation room. Up on the third floor is a quiet little room, with it's own washrooms and flight info screens, where you can sit back, relax and even find a free plug to charge your phone or laptop. This made what would have been an otherwise stressful time much more bearable.

Otherwise ths airport is fine. The staff is very friendly and it is clean and well-lit. Even the security screeners were extremely friendly and courteous compared to most other airports. The only think I'd like to see are more food options; there's not really anything to eat between Burger King and pup grub.

I've traveled in a lot of countries and the Halifax Stanfield International Airport is one of the most efficient and has the best customer service by far. I easily gased up our rental (which was a free upgrade!) before dropping it off on site, picked up supper, and grabbed a shuttle to the Holiday Inn Express - all in 15 minutes time. Friendly staff were available and happy to help each step of the way. It wasn't busy or any long lines. The Alt is also an excellent hotel option right at the airport if you have an early morning flight. The one downside of the airport location is the distance to Halifax, but it's not too far compared to major cities. Best available option for those travelling away from the East Coast - get fresh Maritime lobster packed up in a cooler box for your flight!

Nice airport, but arrangement of the security screening lines is bizzarrely designed to separate passengers from their bags, wallets, phones and computers, which are interleaved amongst other passengers belongings.

Arrived after a 2 hours delay. Waited for 30 lines for bags to start on the belt.
Then THERE WAS NO TAXIS!! What kind of 'international airport' has no ground transportation waiting when a plane of 200 people arrived? Bush league operation here.

The guy at security made me take my sweater off, calling it outerwear when I asked if I could keep it on. It s just a knit cardigan type sweater. It was very cold and I was just wearing a thin undershirt underneath.
