Stayed here many years ago and it was the best resort on Waikiki Beach for the money. It is strictly for Active and retired military service members. Now we are looking into a place to spend with our grandkids. It is even better than before! With more rooms and restaurants, pools and direct access to the beautiful beach. The staff has been very accommodating and helpful to all our inquiries. We wait with great anticipation for the summer of 2022!

Due to the circumstances of the Covid 19 outbreaks the Hale Koa was diligent in making sure our stay was safe and well accommodating. They took care in limiting crowds yet allowing us to enjoy the amenities offered. Our rooms were very nice, and clean. The staff were very helpful. We enjoyed the pools, bar, and restaurants.
Mixed feelings. The airport was inviting for Honolulu. But, it was a veritable maze to get through the new COVID procedures. We went on line and followed every line and had the response from "travel.hawaii.gov" that we were ok. At the airport the QR code we got in Dfw was not what they wanted. We were directed to a separate line. Others had gotten wrist bands and were sent through. We did not get that option. The first lady took our phones and after a bunch of clicking came up with the QRcode we needed. She sent us down the line. Again while others went through we were cut out of line and sent to a separate line. That lady said we needed a different QR code. She took our phones and after about 5 minutes got each of us a NEW QR code. She sent us on our way. At the next check point we were again separated from the group and sent to a new line. That lady took our phones and came up with a new QR code and form that she said would get us out. At the next point again separated and after keying our phones an taking screen shots of things an looking at the CDC cards she gave us a paper that said ok to go in but not free of quarantine possible. The last lady looked at the paper and put a slash on it and said "Mahalo " and pointed down the sidewalk to the baggage claim. A quarter of a mile later we reached the baggage carousel where all the bags had been removed due to taking over an hour to go through the "welcoming" process. We were not alone through all this as there were lines at each place. None of what happened shows on or was explained on the "travel.hawaii.gov" site. So glad we had not scheduled a pickup on our arrival and just took a taxi to the hotel. Upon arrival the hotel clerk told us none of the screen shots or qr codes we had were correct. She took our phones and click, click, click came to a form we should have gotten at the airport with 2 green check marks on it. If you are coming to Honolulu allow hours to be processed before any planned event .
We love this hotel and the pool is perfect for the kiddos!! The staff was very friendly. I was not a fan of the fact that you are not allowed to listen to music at the pool. They didn t even have any playing so we brought our tiny speaker, sat at the corner by ourselves and turned on some tropical music. It took all of two mins for the lifeguard to come tell us to turn it off. This may be just my opinion but music is definitely something you want to hear while relaxing on vacation by the pool or beach. Also, our air went out the second night we were there.
Everything needed for a Hawaiian vacation. Great staff, location, rooms, food, beach. On site parking available. We had a rental and used GyPSy Guide App to guide us around three separate islands. Check out the Army museum next door which is an old shore battery the wrecking ball couldn't dismantle.
The Hale Koa Hotel (Pronounced; Hali-Koa) is a Military Sponsored hotel under the Shades of Green Program. The hotel is very nice and located in a great location. Even though it's in downtown Waikiki, it's also on a beach. There are several restaurants on property, but for the main restaurants that serves breakfast and dinner, you will need to make a reservation. The food was good but a tad bit on the expensive side. The staff is very friendly and attentive to your needs and is always willing to assist in any way they can. The hotel is well kept and clean. I would give it five stars. There is also a small PX on the premises. If you plan on taking tours and attending special events it would be advisable to schedule or make reservations prior to your arrival.
Honestly, in Hawaii you can't have a bad time. There is something about the open lobby of this place that is just so incredibly soothing and enchanting. Obviously it is very close to the beach, with incredible views.
To the right of the hotel there is a very picturesque jetty, where you will see fisherman at sunset with their headlamps on.
The service was top notch, as well as the restaurant. I highly recommend this place, it's beautiful year round.
We really enjoyed our stay here and we love Hawaii, First off our housekeeping Marilou did an excellent job! Great food wonderful service all around from being friendly and helpful. The pool is great there was things for the kids which was nice and it s walking distance to the beach . Restaurant, gift shops on site which was great as well.
