Deplorable emergency room, both in terms of the archaic equipment, filthy rooms, and the attitude of the staff. Wait times for a 5 minute consultation was 8 hours on a very empty, non-busy day. This place shouldn't exist in Canada.

Some staff were mean some were nice. SO its hard to say. Overall the hospital is huge and you will get lost in it. It is a pretty hospital however. I spent my whole day in order to be seen by the doc. But its not the hospital at fault but the medial system in Quebec.
Head nurse very rude on the 11 floor no compaction for the patients talked very loud and rough made patient angry, if u could keep away from this hospital ,,some of the yung nurses are very nice and professional too bad the head nurce has no professionalism at all
Was asked by MD to share my pain and degenerative spine disease and how it impacted my life, to a group of varied hospital staff in a forum. Afterwards, I overheard two male MDs and one says to the other, he came from the US to use our services... or something that insulting. I was shocked and insulted. I m a dual US/Canadian citizen and would never have been treated like that in the US.
90% of the staff is super sassy and unhelpful. Place is very old, and you get a strong feeling that no one wants to do some actual work. Montreal is a big city, its really a shame that this is our general hospital
Excellent triage and in person care. Excellent coordination to advance patients quickly.
Unfortunately Ontario/Quebec computer systems make it hard to achieve unity but I was extremely fond of the care and support from the McGill expertise in psychiatry and it s ability to quickly book me time to be seen.
Went to get a Hospital card prior to my appointment, asked a stuff guy in a corridor who was sitting with his iPhone if he knows where is the room for the card because the main office was closed. Guy was rude straight ahead but hey, I was asking for an information so I didn't mind. Went to the right door and the lady in office started by being rude as well. Any way, I kept calm and asked if there's a reason for talking with anger that day? The dumb girl - was pretty young - gave me a surprised look and all of a sudden calmed down and kept polite. Who is hiring those attitude youngsters? Reading the other reviews here, I guess it all comes from the Hospital Direction, bet the stuff up there is as lousy as it gets.
Worse place ever my father did his opration there after 9 days he died because of the surgery was not successful without the right follow-up from his doctor
It's sad to see this Hospital in such a condition, aside from the building being old. In Emergency, there werent enough chairs for people to sit for Godsakes!
I want to emphasize the kindness of the staff. All the employees we met took the lead to help us find the premises we were looking for. They all offered their help spontaneously. A big thank you!
Eternal waiting at Emergency Room. Staff is very rude and impatient as if they are the ones waiting for hours and hours. Get some compassion, or find a new line of work.
The experience from one time to another can vary and this was the case when relatives had to seek treatment. If you are lucky you will have a good doctor. The staff, the nurses and the rest of the medical teams are friendly and take care to heart.
They saved my life after a dental infection spread in my body ... thank you to all the medical staff of the General Hospital and more particularly of the 11th floor
Very poor hospital. Patient are "objects" not human being. The quality of professional services as well as the other services is very low. There is a lot more to say but...
I am re-entry by ambulance with a problem in the eyes January 15 1/2 hours, they took my vital signs and ECG for 12 hours, they made all possible tests Ct scan, consultations with ophtalomologues, resident Dr. Neurologe Huot, thank you, fantastic internal medicine Jennifer Bisson. Day Nurse Caroline, super efficient. I removed a star because of the cleanliness and personal 3, 2 who refuses to speak to me in French by answering in English they do not comprennaient, and acted diva, their English was not the best and no employee smock that came to lecture, saying that it was an English university hospital and I had to adjust myself to the staff. I think the minimum emergency is to be served in French if applicable. This is not the time for a patient to put into his head to accommodate staff. I understand that these people can be in their last year, how will they pass their test in french?
Incredible emergency service despite patient overload. It is at the level of the follow-up that this Corsican, in ortho, it was my worst appointment with a doctor. Delay, no listening and the impression of being investigated by the doctor because case of csst. 5 stars for the emergency!
If there is an angel that exists on earth, I saw one today in this hospital. (Montreal general hospital). Mrs. Dale Perks. (Nurse). She brought tears to my eyes. She is such a caring and patient nurse towards the patient who seemed to be homeless and all his clothes were in a mess, yet this nurse was taking good care of him and gave him so much hope and attention, etc... And I'm speechless. She is one of the best assets for the hospital. On behalf of all patients I want to thank you Mrs. Perks that good people in this world like you still exists. God bless you.
This hospital is old but the staff here is mostly very nice and really listen to you. This hospital is known to take in trauma patients so each person in the medical team is prepared for most outcomes. It's really hard to find parking though.
ER staff - wonderful. I went early Aug for a y day vomiting migraine. I was triaged quickly and hooked up to an iv quickly. Doctor who was me after was so kind. She promised me the neuro dept would follow up with me next week. She insisted I had to see them asap as my migraines were changing. She was worried.
I never got a call, when I call in I get a run around and I am told someone will call me back, no one ever does. I have called 7 times to no avail. We are now end of Oct and I still haven't heard.
Good thing it wasn't an emergency... right? I expect better. At least call me back. At least let me know I haven't fallen through the cracks. That's the very least you can do.
Edit: its now mid Feb 2020, still waiting for that call for follow up... I call and no one calls back. Can't reach anyone...
The poorest hospital I ever been. I throw up one hour once time, I did not have anything in my stomach, even I can't drink water! This situation is last for all day, I feel very weak even can't move. The most important thing is that I am totally out of water. Cause every time I drink, I will throw them up, even the gastric acid, and bile. I went there 12:00pm and wait until 6:30am, the nurse has a very bad attitude to me. And At last I want to ask how many people before me, she just ignore me like she can"t hear that. So I go back to home without any treatment. I have the worst experience in there. Advise: if you were given a blue slip of paper on your arms, you could just go home or change another hospital. No one will care you. Never never go to this hospital, it is the worst.
Worst hospital ever. Worst nurse worst doctor! Poked me 5 times for blood test and one tube blood can not be used for examination at the end. Waiting for 11 hours and continuously waiting here
Literally, the worst hospital I have ever, waited 6 hours, and I still am waiting for a doctor. It s like these on call interns or residences don t don t care about their career or patients.
I waited over 12 hours for a broken ankle even though other patients with the same problem got served in a couple of hours and left the hospital. Crappy service, never will come here again!
Arrived at 9am in the emergency, my turn came at 16h and it took 3h extra to X ray, knowing that I had surgery the day before ... passing my son ay lost his favorite Lego truck, if you ever find him, please contact us!
Took my wife there after she passed out and fell in the bathroom. When I got there, I ask to put her in a cot but they refused and made her sit in a wheel chair for about two hours. Eventually she got so weak she started to fall on the floor. After catching her and trying to lay her out on a bench, they finally gave her a cot. She ended up doubled over for a few more hours crying and screaming in pain (as well as other experiencing the same). I ask for anything to control the pain but was told that we had to wait for the doctor. We arrived at 2:00AM and saw a doctor around 8:00AM. So many problems that I experienced and saw other experiencing I was just dumbfounded. I have seen quite a few hospitals in 3rd world countries, but since 1982, I have never seen one this bad.
Was diagnosed with subdural hematoma and had to be transported from Lakeshore General to Montreal General for neurosurgical evaluation. The nurses and doctors were thorough and straightforward. I understand that they needed to be aggressive in treating the bleeding in my brain but they gave me options whether to wait or have the surgery done. All in all, full autonomy was given to me in deciding what I wanted to be done. I was sent home in a fly and still recovering at the moment. No issues. No unnecessary delays. Great experience all in all.
HORRIBLE. I was visiting Montreal, and had to visit the hospital at night. I heard this one was the biggest one around. I went there, and approximately 6 people were walking in ER. I understand priority due to injury, but I checked in at 10pm and was there til 830am in the morning without even seeing the Dr.!!! Then I was asking around, and apparently at the biggest hospital there was only ONE DOCTOR???? I couldn't wait any longer shivering and sitting there for over 10 hours with no service. Only 6 people in ER, over 10 hours waiting, does that make sense?
I'm not exaggerating when I say this hospital almost killed me.
I came into the ER and they hooked me up at an IV. And then another one......and then another one. I'm a 115 pound female. I know nothing about medicine but even I knew something was wrong when they hooked me up to that third IV bag. When I told the nurse that the third bag is unnecessary she laughed in my face and said, (word for word) "Well, you don't have a choice", hooked me up to a third bag, and walked off. What?! I don't have a say about what goes inside my own body? I was scared and in a very vulnerable state at the time so I didn't argue, but I did pinch the IV tube so that no more fluid would enter my body. Lo and behold, 20 minutes later a different nurse runs in and quickly disconnects me from the IV. She says in a panicked voice that they gave me too much fluid and that my blood is dangerously thin. They told me I have to stay in the hospital for another two hours because of their mistake and they need to monitor me to make sure I don't pass out from having thin blood.
I can't imagine what would have happened if I hadn't pinched that IV tube and instead let the entire bag flow into my arteries, good thing I trusted my instincts. DON'T GO HERE, unless you want to deal with rude, sarcastic nurses who would rather endanger your life than listen to your concerns.
I'm in the waiting room right now and I'm shaking with all my body, seeing how the people at the reception talk to people. It's inhumane!!! A poor old lady who is looking for her husband who has left by ambulance and she is being talked about like we will not talk to a dog and I pass all the other cases. I got up to help this lady talk to the "receptionist" I feel really bad for these people there .... It's shameful !!!!!
I was brought in with head and shoulder trama. I was told I was fine, that my shoulder was just bruised and I'd be fine in a few weeks, they wouldn't show me my xray, but they'd mail it to me, i never received it. So I went away on an aid mission and it never got better. Wasn't it'll I was in an MSF hospital in Congo where they took an xray showing a clean class three seperated shoulder and I needed to go for surgery. Didnt even need a radiologist to recognise how bad it was, o could see with my own eyes. Don't know how they are the top teams hospital.
Absolutely horrible. I have been to hospitals in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. This hospital is the worst so far. Everything about it is worse than a third world country hospital. I went there at 9 pm and got out at 7 am. The doctor took his time to finally show up at 5 am. Avoid this place.
very very good orthopedic trauma department thank you to all of you on the other hand some people (everywhere in the hospital) should learn French BRAVO for the way you work for meals! and good food for the morning of my birthday the old woman I ordered my lunch " party (to be at the hospital don't forget ) here's a photo....
A lot of things wrong here to be honest. Patients are not provided enough food, barely good enough for a 2 year old. Patients are treated like animals and moved from wards to wards, most times confined and isolated and kept in a dark space with no lights or windows. Lets not talk about the nurses, they do not even know how to speak politely and nicely with the patients. Abusive, agressive and do not care attitude is quite common in this hospital. Decent people with minor depression is treated as mentally retarded and even threatened if they did not do as the nurses asks, they would be strapped to the bed and given heavy dosage of sleeping pills. This hospital is by far a place anyone should go to and if you do, chances of going crazy is highly likely, they wont even let you see sunrise or sunset or breathe the fresh air. Third world country hospitals treat people better than they do.
Unfortunately I'm not satisfied at all. It was my first experience of going to a hospital in my whole life after 33 years and I was super cold in the emergency room but they weren't giving me a blanket. We also treated in a way that we are junkies Vs I have masters in electrical engineering and my wife is a nurse and we were with my friend that she is a dentist! it was unbelievable!!!
Awful hospital. Mom was complaining of severe leg pain for 8 months - her oncologist did not know why. Sent home from the ER and told by Dr. Alam that it was just a muscle. Mom dropped dead in front of my sister the next day. Autopsy showed a massive blood clot attached to her vein exactly where she was complaining of leg pain. My mom was at very high risk for a clot and no risk assessment was done. Poor treatment, bad hospital procedures and doctors who could care less. Avoid this evil place.
Worst experience ever in a hospital . Waited for 6 hours and still no call from the doctor . That s the case in emergency. I wonder how bad the medical institutions are . This one is funded by @McGill
Broke my femur and had surgery there. Very efficient hospital. *Don't go there if you only speak french* The staff is mostly anglophone and a lot of them can't speak french.
There's barely anyone here and I have waited for 6 hours at the embassy without being seen. No one is supervising the workers because exactly why are they not attending to patients? Very disappointing. Bad service, I wish there was a zero, I would rated that instead
i am a regular at M.G.H. for the past 30 years, every department i've been in is top notch, except for ONE, and it is the most critical; the E.R. in January 2014 i've broke my arm in two places and i waited 40 HOURS to get x-rays and a cast, that's WHY i only give 4/5 star.
On 15th floor E ..their is a man with Glasses tall older guy who works on the floor. He doesn't know how to talk to people unless he's racist .... But I come here to see my Uncle and everyone we call for help he happens to come and not once does he smile or actually answer nicely. He always looks mad and it upsets me how nurses don't care about patients and do such a fast job and get irritated and impatient.. .. unprofessional
Tirage don't give a damn rude couldn't care less. Waited 5 hours they couldn't tell me when I was going to pass. I had extreme head and jaw pain left to go somewhere else not recommended. Montreal General hospital
Worst hospital! The wait is incredibly long, you can easily spend 8 to 12 hours waiting without seeing any doctor. The emergency room is really dirty and the chairs are extremely old.
It's 18 months I am waiting for a call for a CT Scan. After 3 additional requests, my doctor's office called to find out what happened, they were told my request was inactivated. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN!?
Came in with severe abdominal pain at around midnight and had to wait in pain all night due to shortage of staff on call (with a somewhat surprisingly empty ER waiting room) only to be finally seen in the morning. Only good side of it all was that I was able to get my own small individual room, but the AC was turned on high and I was freezing even more than I already was and the thin blanket + hospital gown did not help at all... furthermore, I had to try to sleep in my own blood because the nurse who took my blood out sadly dropped some of it on my bed and on the floor (I was shocked to find he wasn't even wearing any gloves) and didn't bother calling someone to clean it up during my stay. Needless to say I did not feel comfortable nor in security during one of the worst days of my life and wonder how clean the room was when even my individual bathroom was clearly not clean and nobody had flushed beforehand.
Ps: was kinda disturbed to see the nurse touch his nose/face right after taking blood (and dropping it everywhere) I hope that man will not catch something like aids from someone in the future if he follows such a risky path. Honest to god I would go anywhere but here if I was dying someday
My pain was 9 and they kept me for 6 hours no ATM to make some change for food only vending machine. Finally no doctor only nurse and I didn t get any medication. I had to leave because of bad service with pain. There is too much drama and extremely unprofessional.sick people. You should be ashamed of your self abuse that degree for nothing. I guess, they only learn to party and harassment while they finish their education. Unbelievable, let your self treat a patient bad because of mental illness that you earn while you were finishing your education. This is just outrageous Concordia and Mcgill students, they ends up with mental illness and they think put you on pressure at dangerous situations can be funny. They are also authorized to work with patient. They should do something in regards of this. When you graduate and there is no job or working in this toxic environments. Mental health general hospital. Your nurse and doctor suffer from it.
The bariatric surgery department is really well thought out. They have nutritionists, and even a psychologist to help patients succeed in the difficult passage after their surgery. They meet before to explain everything about this surgery, with its risks and limitations. We then meet the surgeon and the nutritionist, to understand the issue of such a change. They take this surgery, and their patients, very hearts.
This is the worst hospital for me atleast. I was bleeding profoundly and went here. Firstly, they didnt tell me anything about charges and all.. they just turned me down and refused to treat me ...then they sent a bill at my home country address.... I wasnt treated and i begged them to treat me or just write a prescription for me. But they didnt.. i knew what my problem was... I took antibiotic myself.... And why the hell they have sent me a bill? Am i supposed to pay for something i never received? Its not about 100 dollars but its about my grief... Please do not visit them....
