About Guiding Light Mission
Guiding Light Mission: Empowering Lives through Rescue, Recovery, and Re-engagement
Guiding Light Mission is a non-profit organization that has been serving the Grand Rapids community since 1929. The mission of Guiding Light is to empower individuals to fulfill their God-given potential through rescue, recovery, and re-engagement in the community. Guiding Light believes that every person deserves a second chance and works tirelessly to provide support and resources for those who are struggling with addiction, homelessness, or other life challenges.
Rescue
The first step towards recovery is often rescue. Guiding Light provides emergency shelter for men who are experiencing homelessness or have nowhere else to turn. The shelter offers a safe place to sleep, nutritious meals, clean clothing, and access to basic hygiene facilities. In addition to meeting basic needs like food and shelter, Guiding Light also provides case management services designed to help individuals identify their goals and develop a plan for achieving them.
Recovery
Once an individual's immediate needs have been met through rescue services at Guiding Light Mission's emergency shelter program; they can begin the journey towards recovery. Recovery programs at Guiding Light include addiction treatment services such as counseling sessions with licensed therapists trained in addiction treatment modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). These therapies help clients learn new coping skills that can be used when faced with triggers or cravings associated with substance use disorders.
Re-engagement
The final step in the process of empowering lives is re-engagement in the community. This involves helping individuals find stable housing options so they can transition out of homelessness permanently while also providing job training opportunities so they can gain employment skills necessary for long-term success outside of our program.
Guiding light mission has several programs designed specifically for this purpose including transitional housing which provides affordable housing options while clients work on finding permanent solutions; job readiness training which teaches essential skills such as resume writing interviewing techniques networking strategies etc.; financial literacy classes aimed at teaching budget management debt reduction strategies credit repair tips etc.; spiritual development classes aimed at helping clients grow spiritually by learning about God’s love grace mercy forgiveness etc.
