Horrible experience all along the way-
Had a appointment at 15:30 , waited for the lady gynecologist till 5pm, as she came back from her break ( wearing civil clothes).
When I entered the room, I said politely- in portuguese, that I speak some of the language but would prefer to speak in English- she very strongly answered If I want to speak English, I should go to England, but here they speak Portuguese. Im from Czech and I just use international language when need to express myself correctly , I NEVER met this reaction at ANY other place in Portugal, and Im here for 6 years.
Her attitude was incredibly rude all the 5 min I spend there, getting no information, just sended me for blood test and I ended up paying 98 Euros. And the lady on reception- was too much trouble for her to type my email adress and sending the results by email- which they normally do in Lagos- so she said I can get results if I call Lagos.

Avoid if you can.

The hospital didn't want to arrange everything without a specific email to garant that the invoice will paid the day after. And in despite of the illness of my wife.

Subject: defective implant refund
Dear Sear,
I m writing you this letter after being used your communication system online and got no replies after 3 attempts without replies from you.
I ve been a patient of HPA since 2014; Hospital San Camillo and Hospital private Alvor.
Since then I came across a major difficulty with Dr Rolland MERCIER in Alvor.
I began a treatment of implantology in August 2017 under the care of Dr mercier who promised me my treatment would be partly remboursed by Fidelidade.
( which was fake)
From the beginning of the sessions with DR M, I noticed a poor quality of consideration toward me and my suffering during the cares.
Finally in August 2017 he Implanted me three osteofit implants on INF right.
I wouldn t imagine the pain I encontered the nights and days after, during weeks. I called him and he prescribed me Tramadol 150 mg.
My mouth was paralysed and my chin as well. It lasted one month.
I had terrible bruises and swollen face, but for me the essential was the end of the pain.
IN september my body rejected the implant near my mouth and I was released from this permanent suffering.
When I went back to HPA alvor, Dr Mercier told to her nurse she has no bone and ask for artificial bone to fill the lack of bone I had.
He pretended he would be able to place a new implant in this new mixture in two months.
Then I decided to visit experts in France and they told me, the procedure was a sure failure in the next future.
First I was very disappointed I had to pay 120 euros in plus of Artificial bone and without any excuse.
I decided to stop this butchery and change my way to another specialist.
Now I want to be refunded with no delay for the third defective Implant I paid 600 euros and the useless artificial bone costing 120 euros.
I look forward to a resolution for this matter. I can be reached at .....

Paid 2000,- for preventive healt check up, normally abroad you get one scan they see and now everything!, here I had 3 and they wanted me to do 2 extra from the same parts!!? They said also I had a small tumor on pancreas after worrying for few months and took a scan in Holland I had nothing!!! I think they just trying to steel as much money as possible from you....

I booked a high endoscopy two months ago. I called the Lagos unit and you said it cost 150 euros private.
With 1 week to go before the exam, I called and asked if there was any preparation. The lady who answered me said that it was just an absolute 6-hour fast. It is the exam the value was 230 euros minimum. They may have biopsies.
Today, I called to find out what happened, because they had 2 missed calls on their cell phones, they said it was set up in Alvor and the call was probably to find out the result of the Covid test that I should pay 150 euros more, apart from 230 .. .
Are you kidding? Do you think people are making money in your homes?
They are not interested in the health of the wearer, everything is business.1 star is a lot.

More than one year later, my suffering for what was done to me at this hospital continues!



For several weeks I was in the most pitiful shape, with such swelling that I could barely speak, taking tons of antibiotics, cortisone and anti-inflammatories. I was so sick that I wonder how I am sitting here writing this today. Needless to say that my bite was also totally off.

Only because of an x-ray taken during a desperate visit to my dentist (for Dr. Fernandes everything seemed OK!) did I find out just a couple of weeks before Christmas that everything was very wrong. I needed to have a second surgery most urgently to get the remainder of the tooth and roots pulled, the jaw totally realigned and held in the proper position with elastic bands.

Not the right time of the year to find a surgeon to take care of this! Sick as I was, I somehow managed, whereby I was told that the nerve damage could very probably not be reversed. Luckily I ended up finding a wonderful specialist in the Lisbon area who operated on me on 8 January 2020. Miraculously I recovered from that surgery in just about 2 weeks. Instead of 9 kilos I only lost 1!

My bite is realigned but the nerve damage was such, that still today, I have no feeling in my chin, my lower lip, the area around the broken jaw. I further have lingual nerve damage on the tip of my tongue. I am reminded of this horrendously uncomfortable feeling several times a day and especially at night. As a side sleeper I keep waking up and must constantly turn.

Think about it twice if you plan on going to the Hospital Particular do Algarve!!

I became seriously ill while vacationing in the Algarve and spent two weeks as an inpatient in the hospital. As a retired physician I will focus primarily on the quality of care. From the first moments speaking with the ER physician, who rapidly grasped how sick I was, the care was excellent. The physicians who saw me were intelligent and thoughtful. Their plans were always grounded in the commonly used protocols of EU medicine. As my condition changed they continually explained their logic and changed their plans accordingly. The nurses and support staff, many of whom have worked in England, were also exceptional. I spent a good deal of time on their imaging machines which are excellent and modern. The radiology interpretations were critical to the case and also excellent. Throughout the hospitalization the physician and business office kept in contact with my insurance company in the States to make sure my bills were guaranteed. My colleagues at home kept asking if I could be transferred to a larger hospital in a bigger city but I reassured them that although I was in a small city, I was in a well equipped hospital, being trateated by excellent, competent physicians. I would not hesitate to use them again.

My Mam passed away in this hospital 3 months ago today. Whilst she was attended to straight away there was an issue with obtaining a guarantee of payment from her insurance company as it was out of hours. Her health deteriorated during the night and by the time the guarantee was received it was the following day. She was operated on but never regained consciousness and passed away in ICU. I must say the staff in ICU were excellent but Mam had barely taken her last breath and we were asked to leave which was very upsetting for the family. In fairness we got to spend some time with her later that day but I feel this hospital is too concerned about money. That's my opinion.

Severe testicular pain for 1 month, suddenly very severe pain, then family doctor has an appointment with Dr. Reserved PJCPG and given a report in English when they got there, the doctor first said that he should not learn English to learn Portuguese .... Arrogance advice cannot be surpassed, appointment for ultrasound in 5 weeks and in 6 weeks result discussion .. ..... !! I drove to Hospital Lusiadas on the same day, received an appointment immediately, the urologist even speaks German, 2 days later I had an appointment for an ultrasound and 7 days later I had a consultation, that's what I call service!

Worst experience possible. After one hour waiting (after check in done) nobody was able to tell how long it will still take until my turn. Found out that after the doctor sees you, there is another wait - to pay! You are supposed to wait until someone calls you on the cellphone so you can pay (also very long wait as I figured out watching people around). Ultimately I gave up. So, problem solved - zero, expenses - good holiday's time.

I was completely disillusioned with the services of this hospital, due to a headache, I went to this hospital, they made me a taco, an electrocardiogram and some analyzes. I sat in a chair for 2 hours waiting for the result.
In summary prices are not allowed, we have to pay everything and anything, just sitting in the armchair I paid 118.15 euros, analyze another exorbitance summing up I paid for this headache 411.92 already with the discount insurance paid by Metlife, summary this hospital should be only for rich people

I would never return to this hospital people talk badly about the Irish healthcare system at home apparently this is a private hospital It was chaos from the time we arrived till we left nobody seemed to know what was going on.
I attend hospitals and doctors regularly with three small children and one child with Cerebal Palsy I know how Paediatricians behave around small children. I arrived with a 7 year old girl in a lot of pain with an ear infection. We met a lady doctor with the most patronizing judgemental attitude I have ever met from any doctor never mind one who should know how to behave around small children.
I rang the hospital yesterday to obtain the information and details of the doctor that seen my daughter and I will be writing a strong letter of complaint on my return to Ireland. I m sure they receive this on a regular basis and will probably be thrown in the bin with the rest of the complaints.
I don t trust a word that doctor told us and will have to wait till tomorrow when we return to Ireland to have her seen by a doctor who is less interested in arguing,judging and patronizing taking phone calls shouting in Portuguese on her mobile phone around a child in ear pain and more interested in actually treating her patient which I believe is what we paid 75 euro for. Disgusted with my experience here.
Expect a letter of complaint.

I was very sick and went to the private clinic. They sent me to the hospital in an ambulance. I received excellent care. The nurses, doctors & assistants were attentive & kind & very knowledgeable.
I was admitted for 4 days with a heart monitor, oxygen, 2 IVs, medicine every 4 hours and breathing treatments. Again on the ward the nurses &. Doctors were excellent. Everything was explained to me In English. This is a superior hospital with superior staff!!

I had experienced a concern for my health and wanted to be seen by a doctor as quickly as possible. I visited Hospital Paricular do Algarve and was seen by the ER doctor (Dr. Gerson Pacheco). I was seen with sincere care and knowing very little of the Portugese language was explained what was needed to be completed and was made sure that I understood. I observed others being cared for in the same manner as I. This is going down as a hospital visit that was reassuring instead of scary. And Dr. Pacheco was one of the coolest doctors that I have met.

You can not reach anything by phone, you will not get any information and we should fill in forms online instead
I speak Portuguese well but that does not help either. Even the explanation that you have an acute herniated disc and want to know if an orthopedist is on site, brings nothing. Information shines with utter incompetence.
So you have to go there. After taking all the data, again the same questions about an orthopedic surgeon (without an answer) you end up with a sister (you guessed it, same questions, no answers) which wraps a ribbon around your arm like on the nursing station (so you do not is confused). Then one is picked up by another sister who interrogates one in the course of the barge in the corridor the own data with the hint one should make now no mistake (unfortunately I could not hit the heels together painfully and call yes).
Finally at the doctor's: a Spaniard, great, talking to me in Spanish bored, while he googles for cars on the PC. Then he did not get the CD tray on his computer to see the already brought MRI. Again the questions: if you can put an injection under a C-arm?
You would have to apply for that and then the specialist would come. But when? No Answer. He wanted to inject me then a painkiller and write down some tablets. Chapeaux! This is called technical competence. Clean anamnesis, well he just did not need to take a look at the MRT during his experience.
Conclusion: completely over-bureaucratized would-be hospital filled with medical incompetence.

Bad experience today in this hospital where I had an appointment to scan at 2:20 p.m.
When I make an appointment, I am asked to come 30 minutes before. J. therefore arrives around 1:45 p.m.
Cause Covid, I m waiting outside. Other people are also waiting by more than 30 degrees.
I sound like everyone before me. No one's coming . A lady tries to enter. We send it back to the outside.
After about twenty minutes a person finally arrives to take care of us.
J. finally arrives in the scanner network and for an appointment at 2.30 p.m., I pass two hours late. Knowing that I had to be fasting for 6 hours. I hadn't been able to take a drop of water since 8 a.m.
After worrying twice at the reception I am told that I am in a hospital and that there are emergencies.
Well, if we are in a hospital, how can we leave patients outside in strong heat, some being fasted before their exams while the staff are quietly walking around inside with air conditioning and their coffee.
And when they go back to work they make you wait two hours. Shameful...
Exam finished I settle and there I am told that I have to come back 9 days later to be able to obtain the report..Many Much progress to be made ......

On three implants placed inf right, the most ready of the nerve vzrs the mouth was rejected! what pain!. after that, the practitioner injected artificial bone into the cavity. Having consulted an expert, he told me that no investment would have taken place in this artificial amalgam. I was not reimbursed for the 3rd implant paid and rejected, as well as the artificial bone. I will complain to my lawyer.

Do not go there if you are sick and in need of immediate healthcare, my husband was in extreme abdominal pain and was admitted for 2.5 days in a private room with staff not knowing what is going on, as for a doctor omg...my husband was told by a man in a white coat allegedly a doctor that an urologist was coming, two days of fasting later, no urologist, in the end we discharged ourselves, flew home to Ireland the next day and have had real private healthcare in the Beacon. Rang VHI told them that they should really review sending anyone there in an emergency. I ve asked for a copy of the bill as I cannot wait to see what they charge for, this was after paying 350 in their healthcare Centre in Guia, I m glad I refused an ambulance charge of 250 and drove my husband myself....any tourists or ex oats living there, beware.....

Very good communication between teams. Very good service and they take one seriously.
don t have to wait long after ringing bell.
It is private so you do need to be insured if not you need to pay a bunch for a few days but it is worth it if compared to emergency room on Portimao where you stay in a room with 35 patients and if you are not about to die will be left your faith

Our house guest did the PCR test there on Monday, two days before his return flight to Germany (costs 100 ). Unfortunately, the Hospital Particular do Algarve in Alvor did not send him the test result in good time before departure. This was extremely annoying! After registering and paying I waited 30m and went to ask how many appointments there were (because I had two for the same day in Lagos and Portimao) .... Unfortunately I have little good to say about the hospital. I just came on a medical recommendation. For me he would never set foot on me again. The administrative staff is good, some operational assistant as well. However, the surgery stay is on a different floor from the operating room. If nursing assistance is needed, the floor nurse should call the colleague and wait for the nurse to come when she can, whenever she wants, if she feels like it. The facilities are not good, the chairs uncomfortable, the bar has little supply and the service staff does not understand Portuguese well or whatever. I'm very sorry for the poor service from a surgical nurse. It was unfortunate that essentially the service he provided had further stained a situation that was not easy in itself.

Poor EMERGENCY ATTENDANCE After entering and mentioning that I did need an ENT specialist, my daughter waited 3 hours for the general practitioner to confirm this need and still say that she had forgotten about it ..... We would have to go back next day and that we should only enter the emergency room to be referred to the specialist. We did so, but we will have to wait and go through the general practitioner's service again and only then will we be referred. It will certainly be another morning. I regret that your service of excellence is this.
