I really enjoyed going here, I didn't stay as it was EXTREMELY expensive and couldn't afford it. I'd recommend the school, but only for those who get a good financial aid package. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because I feel like the school is really overpriced... you could go to UVM for the same price and get a more valuable degree to employers (not to mention a better college town, Poultney is pretty boring).

I spent four years at Green Mountain College and met some of the most wonderful people that I have had the pleasure of spending time with. From dinner with professors to dinner with my teammates, I couldn't have chosen a better place to call home. It's a small college in a small town, but most certainly not lacking in diversity. I met people from all walks of life and each and everyone of them has forever changed my life. I recently had 22 GMC students at my house in UT, most of whom I have never met, but because of the amazing nature of this place I felt like I had spent the past four years with them. I am beyond proud to say that I come from such a beautiful community with such strong beliefs, but most importantly, the acceptance of others.

I could not disagree with the two negative reviews of Green Mountain College more. The college experience is about choices. A university neither chooses a student's major nor dictates that student's choice of lifestyle. It is incumbent upon all of us to take personal responsibility for our failures and not deflect them in a proverbial "blame game". No college degree is "worthless" in the hands of a motivated, self starting individual.
My daughter will graduate from Green Mountain College in May, 2013 with a degree in Outdoor Adventure Education and a minor in History. . During her tenure at the university, I have seen a huge transformation in her both academically and emotionally. While the success that she has achieved has been her own, she has been supported by a tremendously dedicated faculty at Green Mountain. I could not be more pleased.
As I write this, she is studying Islamic Architecture with her GMC class in Morocco.
Worthless? I think not.

Terrible cash grabbing institution.

Terrible cash grabbing institution.
46K a year for a degree that has no value in the real world.
Non existent student life (less than 600 students)
Trust fund kids from CT and NY on their parents dime doing a TON of drugs.

Racist administration. President often makes racial remarks he doesn't find offensive but everyone else does.

Athletics are terrible, except for basketball and they got rid of that coach because he had too many players of color.

Really really ugly corner of the world.

As the visible and invisible shock waves of our sciences and technologies spread irrevocably deeper into nature, one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century is to cultivate habits of ecological imagination that enable us, when guided by the consequences of past decisions, to mediate shared problems while also reconciling our scientific attitudes with our aesthetic attitudes. This calls for a liberal arts education for the 21st century, and Green Mountain College in Vermont is a small, friendly, and vibrant institution that is equipped to deliver.

Step 1: Pay them.
Step 2: Repeat step 1 for 4 years.
Step 3: Graduate with a worthless degree.

Please notice the missing step of learning anything.

If you fit into their monoculture and just want to drink for 4 years this is the place for you! If on the otherhand, you actually wish to learn something aside from how to do a proper keg stand, look elsewhere.

I love this school. I can't say enough wonderful things about it. My son graduated from here and I couldn't be happier (and just a few months out of school, he has a nice job he is enjoying thoroughly) Like any school it has its party culture (it's part of growing up). He had the best of both worlds. He was able to grow in a very kind, nurturing environment with freedom to explore. The staff is fantastic, the professors are phenomenal. I work at a university in Boston and mentored a student from GMC for a few weeks. I was so impressed with how much he was able to accomplish from his very strong classroom and hands- on science background. The place is gorgeous, helpful and friendly. A bigger part of the world should be modeled like GMC.
