I volunteered with Green Lion and have had a good experience so far

Unfortunately I did not like the time at all. And I honestly wonder where the money goes for this organization. I have paid for the 2 weeks in the turtle project about 1000 euros. It was said before that you should be prepared to live in simple conditions. That's no problem for me. But what I expected there I would never have thought. They had a big problem with bed bugs and did not manage to get the bed bugs out. All girls were extremely disgusted and most had to wash their entire clothes at their own expense. There were four of us in a room, which was like a storage room, there was hardly any room even to open the suitcase. The bathroom was extremely stunk and there were huge cockroaches. Sorry, but if there 4 girls for 2 weeks so total 4000 euros I can not understand, why not keep the building at least in a reasonably hygienic condition. I'm not talking about luxury or anything here.
Then to the project: one is divided into groups and is allowed to work 2 times 2 hours a day. Of which is usually a part with the turtles and a part beach clean etc. I would have wished that you learn a lot more about the turtles. There is a short PowerPoint presentation at the beginning and that's it. The rest of the time you clean their tanks and the turtles. Here is a giant bunch of girls divided. One is usually finished with the turtle work after 1 hour and in my opinion one is not needed there at all. That's more of a "let's let them do a little bit with the turtles so that we can spend it as a volunteer" and make a lot of money for it. As much money as there flows into it is never used for the turtles. There were certainly about 40-50 girls there and in the high season it is much more. Everyone can calculate the amounts that come together. For me it's just rip off and nothing else under the guise of doing something good. The supervisors on site were nice, because you can not say anything ... but I find this complete system absolutely wrong.

I really like to green lion because there is a peaceful atmosphere

Great opportunity to give back to society through humanitarian work such as English teaching or temple construction. The accomodation and food are satisfactory as well.
Also possible to enjoy the holidays through the available free time.

I went 4 years ago in 2016 but it is still one of my most memorable trips. Great organization and experience with like minded people. If you enjoy giving back and having fun well your doing it then this is for you!
