Green Chimneys is a nonprofit organization that has been providing comprehensive services to young people for over 70 years. The organization's mission is to help children and young adults maximize their full potential by providing them with residential, educational, clinical, and recreational services in a safe and supportive environment.

The organization was founded in 1947 by Samuel B. Ross Jr., who believed that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential regardless of their background or circumstances. Since then, Green Chimneys has grown into a multi-faceted organization that serves thousands of children each year.

Residential Services

Green Chimneys provides residential services for children who are unable to live at home due to various reasons such as neglect, abuse or family issues. The organization offers several different types of residential programs including group homes, foster care homes and therapeutic boarding schools.

The group homes provide a safe and nurturing environment where children can receive the support they need while living with other youth in similar situations. Foster care homes offer an alternative option for those who need more individualized attention from caregivers. Therapeutic boarding schools provide academic support along with therapy sessions designed specifically for each student's needs.

Educational Services

Education is an essential component of Green Chimneys' mission. The organization operates two private day schools that serve students from kindergarten through high school age levels: Clearpool Campus School located on 350 acres in Carmel NY; Hillside School located on the main campus in Brewster NY.

Both schools offer individualized education plans tailored specifically for each student's needs along with traditional classroom instruction taught by certified teachers. Students also have access to vocational training programs such as animal husbandry, horticulture and culinary arts which help them develop practical skills they can use throughout their lives.
