Wonderful place. Our intern who was our guide was fantastic! I can't recall his name but he is an education major with a concentration in history!! Beautifully maintained graet camp! A must see!

Quite the experience to visit this place from the gilded age of the Adirondacks. You are free to walk most of the grounds without paying, but if you want a proper tour of the camp or to stay there you must make arrangements right at the front office.

If you're visiting the Adirondacks then this is a MUST see. There aren't many publicly accessible Rustic Great Camps, let alone facilities like this one - National Historic Sites that offer "no velvet" ropes opportunities to take part in resident programs for up to a week. Tours offer a taste of life at camp - both "upstairs and downstairs" looks into how the Vanderbilt's lived and how their support staff toiled to keep Camp operating 24/7/365, in the ready for a visit. The best way to experience Sagamore and all it has to offer is to take part at a program hosted at this non-profit institution. Prospective guests should check out the website for a current list of programs - even volunteer opportunities. The setting of the Camp is simply marvelous and the architecture here inspired the design of many of the National Park's most iconic Lodges. Top notch staff, plenty of recreational and educational opportunities, and all the comforts that can be found in a well-appointed hotel with just the right amount of "Roughing It" Vanderbilt style. What else would you expect from the place that purportedly inspired Margaret Emerson to coin the word "Vacation" ?

Camp was nice, tour is below par. While the tour guide did a good job, the limited access to the buildings is very disappointing. You only get to see one room in two buildings. The smaller camps and school house are off limits. You only see one room in the main camp and the wigwam.
Not worth the $16.00 admission cost per person.

This a fabuluos place with amazing, friendly staff. The only reason it got a 4 instead of 5 is accessibility. It's really not for people who have problems with stairs and steep hills. But it's totally wonderful, and if you get a chance you should definitely go!

Beautiful place, we went there for a wedding and we had amazing time walking around, canoeing and swimming in the lake. Do watch out for the mosquitoes though!! you think it's cool weather and up north so you won't expect mosquitos, but there are loads of them!

There's an especially beautiful hike around the lake on the old road that used to be used for the carriage entrance. It departs from a point 1/10th of a mile from the actual lodge entrance and gives the impression of a long wilderness trek to reach the camp. Upon exiting the camp, visitors were simply taken across the 10th mile bridge to come to find out what it means to be part of the Gilded Age: impressions are not reality, but fun nonetheless. The pictures I posted are of the farthest point from the lodge, at the lake outlet.

Beautiful place to visit. Was a little disappointed we didn't get to see certain areas because of guests staying there. There was only 4 of us in our tour group, I don't think we would have been that much of a distraction.

Wonderful, historic place to stay for one of the camp's special programs or events or their weekend packages. It's not a hotel. You are staying in a Vanderbilt family home and are able to make yourself at home and explore and enjoy at your own leisure and connect to the wilderness setting just as the family did.

Last week my wife and I attended a family reunion at the Great Camp. I am nearly 80 years old and have a very limited diet. The staff at the camp sought information about what food I could eat and which I could not eat. Provision was made to serve me a separate plate at each meal containing the foods I can eat. This high level of concern and consideration made it possible for me to attend this very important event. Thank you, the staff at Great Camp Sagamore. Thomas Wetherell

If you're in to the history and architecture of the Great Camps then I would definitely suggest going.
The tour was structured somewhat like a story starting with its first owner, how it was built, and the difficulties associated with maintaining it physically, financially and legally. Each building had its own story and our guide made it a point to point out subtle details that none would have noticed if it weren't for him.
Note: You can pay to stay there just like a resort.
Even though it's mostly outside, dogs are not allowed. (At least for the tour)
