Grande Rockies Resort Review

We stayed here in December 2016, and then again in May 2017. My initial December impression was completely ruined this time. First, there was a big problem with AC, it automatically switched to 30 degrees during the night, and it made our sleep awful. Second, toilet was clogged, and our attempts in asking to fix it were ignored. Fridge was so loud that you could hear it through the walls. Definitely not worth 250 CAD for the suite.

Finally, the restaurant.. We spent nearly 200 CAD, and it was a nightmare. Not only we waited for kids meal and "appetizer cheese plate" for more than 45 minutes, and asked them to have our main course "to go" (our kids were already tired), but they didn't even know about special rates for Expedia gold members. We had to go back to the room and print that certificate. And this is after the front desk lady told us that restaurant should know about the discount. They also forgot to include the bottle of wine into the bill. I noticed that and asked to bring me a missing part of the bill (kind of nice of me). I ended up waiting another 20 minutes to pay for what they forgot to charge me for. Finally, 1 hour and 10 minutes, we finished a bottle of wine with a cheese plate, kids are tired and angry, and no main course. Bad experience. I think the whole team of that restaurant was changed in 2017, and it is not even close to what it used to be before. I would strongly NOT recommend to have dinner at that place.

The front desk staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The building was clean and our suite was clean when we checked in. The hot tub was perfect after a day of hiking. Our kitchen had higher quality equipment than I expected so preparing meals was easy. Overall, very good value and great experience. I would stay again but probably book a room not on the main floor.

Beautiful location. Pool is amazing for families with slides for kids and adults. Nicely appointed rooms. Probably the best shower I've ever seen. Service is only OK from front desk.

They are very conservative with the availability of towels. We had to ask twice to get enough for our group to the point where people had to choose between being trapped in the pool area or having to walk back to the room soaking wet

It was ok. Nothing to write home about. We rented a condo for the weekend. TV wasn't working when we got there, toaster didn't work for breakfast and bbq handle was broken when we cooked supper. Half the options in the shower didn't work but it had a comfy bed. Staff was friendly.

Stunning place amazing staff very private. Walking distance to the city center. 20 - 25 minutes from downtown banff. Gorgeous!

I was not very happy with the way the room was cleaned. On the first night I found sand on the sheets and hair that it don't think was mine. They came and swapped out the towels on the second night but on the third never showed up even when we called down to the front desk to ask for the room to be cleaned. They had steam showers that were okay except for the fact that the doors didn't close properly so the floor got wet. Also the instructions on how to use the shower were all wrong and for a different type of steam shower. I don't think I'll be staying there again.

Just ok overall. Looking a little dated and worn. Needs some updates and maintenance. Good location. Average pool. OK value.

Nice rooms, close to all the major attractions in the area. The pool area is perfect for kids of all ages (from the wading pool to the waterslide) with a great indoor/outdoor hot tub for the adults.

We had a great penthouse. Plenty of room, clean, and all amenities. The hotel was clean.
The parking situation underground was a bit dicey, considering everyone in Alberta has a pickup truck and swallows up 1.5 parking stalls.
With Covid, you have to book your pool time as they restrict the amount of people in the pool at any given time. You can only book pool time with the attendant when the pool is open, very inconvenient. Overall, recommend this place.

Nice place. Not a five star exactly but enjoy our time with friends.

Travelled here with my family and got a good deal from a website. The facilities for kids were awesome with a toddler pool and water slide. Rooms were spacious and all in all good value for money. My room was in need of a bit of a refit as it was showing some age, but not too big a deal...it was clean.

Had an awesome weekend with friends. Rented a hot tub suite on the 4th floor, great times. Nice staff, easy access to the town, would recommend.

Cute resort great for a quick place to crash when you're traveling. The bed was super comfy ! Only complaint would the bathroom is a little dingy, we had old duck tape residue all over the door and the handle was broken. Other than that great place.

A family friendly place to stay with a pool and a hot tub, that is close to Canmore's shops, restaurants and bars.

Came to this resort for a wedding and it was great. The staff were super friendly, and the rooms were clean and very nice. It was a very enjoyable check in and check out experience and I would recommend anyone stay here if they are traveling to Canmore or Banff.

My family and I really enjoyed this resort. The kids especially enjoyed the water slide, indoor/outdoor hot tub and the kid pool.

I really enjoyed the included underground parking.

If I could leave a negative star review I would. Do not waste your money on this place. Honestly would have had a better sleep in my SUV. The bed was hard as a rock, the toilet made a screaming noise when you flushed it, the fridge made loud clicking noises on and off all night, the FRIDGE HAD FOOD IN IT when we got there and we found OLD COFFEE IN THE COFFEE POT in the morning. Add in the fact that the front desk said they couldn t move us (even though the place wasn t full by any means) and couldn t send maintenance until the morning (we stayed one night)...then add the absolutely ridiculous insult to injury of a run around we are currently going through to get a refund (asked for 50% which we think is fair since we did stay the night as both of us were to tired to be safe on the road, which is why we booked the dang hotel in the first place). When a place charges $200+ a night...it better be a decent place to sleep and clean... negative 5 out of 5 DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Went for breakfast and coffee... was not disappointed!! Busy but comfortable for us. Some wait staff seemed stressed and rushed but others were calm and very friendly. Would definitely recommend. Delicious potatoes.

Room had everything we needed however it was a little rough around the edges. Floors lifting, nicks in the cabinets, cracked bed frame ect..
Pictures are much nicer than in person. Pool was over crowded and parking underground is extremely tight. good luck if you have a full size truck.

Quiet, great pool, really comfy beds, and had a fridge!

Dirty room, stained and ripped linens, carpet old and dirty, priced too high for quality. Service in restaurant was terrible.

We stayed in a room in the annex building. While the main building is nice...our room in the building across the parking lot was terrible. The carpet was covered in stains. The bedding, while clean, smelled way too strong of bleach. It was incredibly noisy all through the night with people coming and going -- the walls and ceiling providing no sound barrier. And while it was a non-smoking room there was an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke...likely from other guests in other rooms.

Let's start out with the fact we were robbed. We checked in February 15th. We had booked through Groupon. Big mistake...( we will get to that later)

When we got to our room we were for the most part satisfied at first. Really the only issues I had were that there was blood on my duvet on my bed, as well as blood on the back up duvet they stored in the closet. The room wasn't the cleanest, but it wasn't terrible.

My husband and I were in a one bedroom suite. I awoke on February 16th in the morning to voices coming from the kitchen area. I was disoriented and groggy. The voices appeared to be laughing and chatting. When I entered the kitchen their were three people ( housekeepers I know now) standing there. They were shocked to see me. I assume they thought we were outside of the room. When I asked them what they were doing they said " you want housekeeping"? I hadn't asked for housekeeping. They left in a hurry. As soon as they left, I notice my wallet, which one of them had been standing right by, was unzipped. Empty. They had stolen our money, right down to the change purse! I awoke my husband and we called the front desk. We were informed the manager would have a "talk" with staff. While I waited for the managers to get back to me ....yes, again I'm an idiot! I checked reviews more thoroughly for this establishment. What I found was horrifying. Within the last two months, two other people had reviewed about theft of their belongings. That's when we called the police. We spent the next 4 hours dealing with the police and the rudest hotel managers I have ever dealt with in my life. During the time which we missed our coup,es massage , which we had also missed through this establishment. I just want to say the lady at the verde salon was very gracious about us cancelling.

We wanted a refund. Our stay wasn't even up yet, but we were leaving. The hotel manager refused our refund, stating we had bought a groupon and must get a refund from them. I was rightfully upset and crying...at which point the manager said if we didn't leave he would call the police back ON US! We had just been robbed by his staff!!!!

We left the hotel and I immediately contacted Groupon. After many (8) phone calls and 6 emails, the best they would do at first was refund half of my money in Groupon bucks...with an extra $40 in Groupon bucks for our "trouble". After 6 more emails..they agreed to refund half (1

Broken wine glass in our cupboard, black mould on the tub stopper, rude customer service with problems, very unorganized at check in, tried to charge me for my "free" wine bottle at check out.

Location is fairly close to Banff and highway. Well maintained property. Parking is bit of a problem and no laundry facilities. They have a pool and what looked like a small water park on premise.

Good suite, have all the required stuff. Mattress too soft, not very comfortable. Parking is nightmare here. First timers, be prepared to be lost. Even, staff at reception don't guide well. One good point is, middle of DT, so you have easy access to all good food joints.

I love love love this hotel. We got a 1 bedroom suite with kitchen & sofabed. The shower was so kewl. The kids enjoyed the pool.

We booked a double-bed room and were not made aware that it will be in a non-adjacent and old building from the main resort building. We were cut off from the main lobby and other amenities and had to walk between the two buildings. This was especially inconvenient when using the pool. There were no towels available at the pool either, which is quite the contrary to typical. There were only wash rooms instead of a locker or a proper change room.

Our room was very dated. The air-conditioning was a retrofit which stuck out of the wall some two feet in an already small room, and was very noisy.
The bathroom door lock did not work.
The shower knob had to be repaired while we were there because it did not turn correctly to provide hot water.
There was not a single mirror in the entire room (just one in the bathroom). I have never experienced this at any hotel room.
The pictures of the building on the internet are misleading as it only shows the main building without any adjacent buildings (which is reality) providing the impression that this place is sort or secluded, which it is not.

Large rooms clean and friendly staff. Pool great for kids. Would stay again.

This spot is awesome. Booked through Airbnb and was with a group of 6. The pool and hot tub and slide are great!

The apartment was huge, very comfortable with every convenience required to make it work perfectly for us as a family. They even provided a barbecue on the veranda for goodness sake! Even though we didn't have a proper mountain view, the view was still fantastic off our veranda. The bedrooms are large, the bathrooms equipped with rocket ship very high tech showers, shower/spa combos. The only thing I would say is that I could not adjust the temperature down enough for my preference. In time, you might want to brighten the hotel by painting over the dark wood trim everywhere - that will really freshen and modernise it. The swimming pool area was heaven for children, equipped with a very large fun slide. The water however, could have been kept cleaner given the volume of children using it. Also, the staff although polite, were not overly well trained or helpful, particularly at the front desk. Also some luggage trolleys would have come in handy

The room was correct very spacious although we had to go and tell them to make us the sofa bed since we had not made it on arrival and they did not clean the room in 3 days and we needed to rest towels and they did not change them. Cleanup summary was a disaster a big disappointment.

They have a 4pm check in and still made us wait an extra hour to get into the suites. the unfriendly front staff member stated "you know these are suites, they take a while to clean" and scoffed. We pay alot for the suite and so does everyone else, and deserve better. There are better places around dont stay here.

This hotel is quite a nice place to spend the night in Canmore. I was lucky enough to stay in the newly renovated side (not physically connected the the main resort). Parking is outdoors for those staying in the newer side. Renovations are tasteful and the bathroom is genuinely similar to a spa. Where this hotel falls apart is actually the consumables. The towels are rather scratchy and are of rather low quality. The lotions, soaps and shampoo aren't the best either but the shower is very nice.

Great place for a family get together. Great staff and service. Had a few issues in the unit like a leaking dish washer that was not repairable. The parking garage layout is messed up as some is private and there were only a few spots available for the resort. Not near the elevator I needed.

Great staff, one shower not one functions worked and in-between days our room wasn't cleaned fully. But overall good experience, will come back.

Room was ok. Carpet was wet by window, the glass was dirty, which made it hard to see outside mountain view. Stayed in the annex building. The hallways were poorly lit, very dungeon feeling. If you want to use the pool you have to walk across the street. Parking lot is very small as well.

You ruined our Thanksgiving weekend! When I booked a room, I called to ensure that the pool was open. I was told that same day reservations for the pool were required. The day of check in, I had set an alarm for 8:05am to call and make reservations for the pool. I was told by staff that the pool was already fully booked for the entire day, and that it had been booked the days previous. I was also told that I could not speak with the booking person and would have to wait until we arrived to speak with them in person. The entire reason we booked with this hotel was for the pool, so weekend plans were cancelled. My kids and I had been really looking forward to a weekend in the mountains. Not impressed!

Good but there was an extra charge of $120 that we did not expect.

Nice stay in Canmore. Repeat stay in a two bedroom suite. Four years ago this was one of my favorite family stays. Unfortunately this particular suite was rundown, many things damaged and lots of problems like laundry machine, high tech tub, shower were broken and not repaired. The power cutting out when the room is unoccupied would reboot the satellite and this made my kids freak out repeatedly. It took me a half an hour to connect to the wifi which was also frustrating. The room which cost more than I had expected was looking a little worn. When I checked out I stood behind a man with complaints and was offered one night comped, and he stated he had stayed two nights and demanded both for free and he was given that. Made me not want to ever come back. The type of person who complains gets rewarded. I would have been happier to have paid less for a less than satisfactory room

Can't say the room was exceptional but it was pretty good for the price we paid. BUT the pool was awesome and the staff at the frontdesk was very kind and professional! I would recommend to a family with kids for the indoor pool, indoor/outdoor hot tub :)

I really liked everything about the room, king bed comfortable shower awesome room for 2 with rain shower fantastic, no bathtub but I never use anyway. You have to stay in different building for cheaper prices room but that was okay, hot tub indoor/ outdoor was great, pool with water slide but did not use, hubby did lots of kids, did not eat at grande restaurant but looked nice, lobby nice, fast friendly service. Will definitely stay again.

Distorted hotel concept from a dysfunctional future.

The standard hotel rooms are not ideal to work there in not enough light.
But the biggest disappointment was the bathroom floor. I asked it to be cleaned but they didn't have cleaners available. So they offer me to either move to a uglier room or refund money to go somewhere else. It was 9 pm already so I just stayed and just never go back.

The location is excellent. Right by downtown and could walk to most places around. We came during covid time, therefore procedures are different at the resort. We arrived the first night very late so we settled in and slept early. The next day we then noticed that one of the blankets they had given us had a huge stain on it. It was a little alarming as it is during covid time, they changed the blankets for us that day. You put all garbage and used blankets in bags and put it outside the door and they will give you new ones in a bag. Their pool was open but you had to reserve spot which was good, however the pool area is not big, i'll suggest going in early, as even with limited number of guests (15 i believe) it can feel crowded and unsafe. You have to ask for pool towel at the front desk. Scenery was beautiful ! Make sure to bring mosquito repellent during summer time !

We go to Canmore regularly and stay at different accommodations each time. This was my least favourite of all. The shower - absolutely stunk of mold and mildew, if you are tall you'll have a hard time fitting in it, and most of the features of the shower didn't work. Hot tub - I love sitting in the hot tub to relax and enjoy the mountain views, except you got neither with this one.... the hot tub is surrounding by the rooms so you can not see any scenery whatsoever, and it's right next to the children's pool and unless you enjoy listening to screaming kids on a waterslide you will not find it relaxing at all.

Good place. Clean rooms. Two separate buildings are somewhat of an inconvenience though. Especially when trying to access the pool. Also a locker room would be a nice addition. Great price though.

Nice place for a group of friends or a family to set up shop while staying in the Rockies

Parking at the annex building is extremely tight, not impossible to fit a truck in but almost. Beware that the annex building is older than the new grand location when your booking even tho both room options appear on their website together. Otherwise the rooms are very nice for the price in Canmore if you book in advance.

Breath taking views. Rooms were beyond expectations. Wish I could have spent more time there... next time...!

I had my wedding rehearsal dinner here and most of my wedding guests stayed here. My husband and I booked the $800 suite for our wedding night- what a mistake. When we got to the room at 2am, every window in the entire unit was wide open. THe thermostat stated it was 6 degrees in the room. It was October 20-- a cold time in Autumn. So here we are freezing from the cab ride back to hotel, into a FREEZING cold room. Ok, so let's head to the jacuzzi to warm up? Too bad, the jacuzzi is luke warm, and it is on MAX. Like we were going to call someone to fix it at 3 am ON OUR WEDDING NIGHT. OK fine, let's get into the sauna in the bathroom to warm up? Oops nope cannot do that, it's broken. Again, not going to call down at this time of night. So we crawled with ice cold limbs under the covers to try and de-ice our bodies. After 45 min, our body temperatures might be back to normal.
What a romantic way to spend your wedding night hey?

This is NOT a luxury hotel, do NOT be fooled. I truly wish that I had read more reviews before booking here, and telling our wedding guests who had flown from AROUND THE WORLD to stay here. The discount they have offered us on our enormous bill was insulting.

Please, if you want first class service in this lovely town, do NOT book here. It is merely a glorified condo renting enterprise. I have worked in hotels for many years, this one is by no stretch of the imagination luxury.

My wife and I stayed here for the first few nights of our honeymoon and WOW it was an amazing stay! The views from the balcony were incredible, the interior was very nice, and the staff was extremely helpful. Very happy I stumbled across this place when last-minute honeymoon planning!

The room was amazing! Jake at the front desk was great and very funny. We decided to come to Canmore at the last minute, and they were able to get us a suite with a great view on no notice and at a great price. We will definitely be back!

Room looked very nice however smelled a bit like smoke.

The apartment style room was kept very clean, and all the amenities were excellent. The very friendly and helpful staff was always available. The location was perfect in relation to Banff National Park, great eateries, and other points of interest.

In early July 2015, we stayed for five nights in an owner's condo at this resort. The condo itself was wonderful - spacious, clean, and well-equipped - but we were very disappointed in the operations and maintenance of the resort. There was a broken back door on the other side of our bedroom wall that slammed all night long. We notified the resort staff TWICE but the staff seemed clueless. A young woman at the front desk said, "I'll make a note of it," so I asked, "Can you fill out a work request?" She looked at me as though she had never heard of such a thing. A young man at the front desk told my wife the next day that he'd try to find some cardboard to put in the door to keep it from slamming (and this was a security door to the outside, though the lock didn't work anyway). After five nights of broken sleep, we were exhausted. Another problem at the resort: the key-cards didn't work longer than a day, so we kept having to return to the front desk every day to get cards re-magnetized (eventually those magnetic strips wear out - gotta buy fresh cards occasionally!). Also I had hoped the fitness center would be nicer (some nice dumbbells and machines there, but benches, mats, and several machines of poor quality). We had stayed at Solara a few years ago and had a similar experience with poor maintenance and low quality, but I learned only afterward that the same company (Bellstar Resorts?) runs this resort.

Check in went fine but once we got to our room we noticed the curtains were broken so you couldn't lower them and then we noticed that the bed had disgusting stains all over the mattress and the mattress pad over top.

We asked for a different room but we're told all they had was one with 2 smaller beds, this didn't work for us plus these beds also had stains on them. They eventually told us they had a room that they could give us for one night. This bed even larger stains all over it.

I would never consider staying here again ever

They advertise the hotel as a 4 star but in reality only part of the complex is. The building they had us stay in was a 2 star at best. It was old and dirty and the sheets felt like sandpaper. After confronting the staff in the morning about the condition of the hotel they said the main hotel is a 4 star and the building we stayed in was going to be upgraded someday. I could tell that I was not the first person to complain to her that day.

We also found dried blood in the shower. When I brought this to the hotel staffs attention they told me it was red cleaning solution. It was 100% blood but at this point I was exhausted arguing with the hotel staff and just left.

Clean and tidy. Beautiful location. Close to amenities. Friendly staff.

Love their pool and the staff is so nice. The rooms are gorgeous and the lobby is wonderful and cozy. Nicely located about 3 minutes from downtown and close to all the restaurants on Bow Valley Trail.
I would highly recommend this hotel. My in laws have stayed here multiple times!!!!

It's a decent hotel. The rooms look a lot bigger in pictures unfortunately, but it does have a microwave which is useful. The staff is nice and accommodating. Parking is free. It's 20 minutes to Banff which is an excellent, affordable stay right outside the ridiculously priced national park.

The parking garage to the condo was a bit of a pain. But the condo was fully stocked. The shower was heavenly (massager and steamer)

Great place to stay in Canmore! Full kitchen, nicely appointed condo with laundry. Wonderful pool/hot tub. Too bad the restaurant/bar is closed during winter hours... underground parking is super Sweet!

My partner and I stayed here for two nights. We came back from dinner one night and had the pleasure of meeting Emiel. He was an absolute delight! He's a keeper, nice to see staff who are willing to go above and beyond to accommodate for guests needs. Made our experience a five star. Thank you!
