Would not go back or ever recommend! Very run down and not clean. Too many things didn't work. Never saw the owner. Felt very ripped off for what was advertised and for what we paid for. Feel very strongly that we should receive a refund of some sort. I suggest a person go see the place before you book off what you see advertised. So deceiving!!!

Owner and staff were super nice! Great place to get away for a week or more. Tons of stuff for the kids to do and the staff have daily activities for them! Peaceful and quiet!!! Fishing was great too!!
Alot going on here. The grounds were well maintained. They have play equipment and a game room for the kids. The view of the lake is nice and I was very impressed with the cabin. There is a boat ramp right there and they have a rock protected dock area. The only negative would be minor upkeep issues at the cabin.
Do not believe much from the Grand Vu Lodge website or fliers. According to the resort layout map it seems that there is ample room between lake homes and sufficient parking - this isn't accurate. We were glad that all but one night the cabin neighbors were quiet. 1.) There wasn't Wi-Fi access at all lake homes like stated. This didn't bother our family much as we didn't vacation there to browse the web but this was an advertised amenity that we didn't receive. 2.) While the owner Jeff is patriotic and cares much about our country he doesn't seem to care much about his customers and knows very little about customer service. Our welcome to the resort was - lets say - less than desired and this attitude carried through the entire week. 3.) The lake home we had for the week was supposed to be remodeled within the last 3 years but it wasn't evident as to what was done. We had to step carefully on certain areas of the floor because it seemed that we could break through the floorboards at any time. The hot water heater started leaking, from the drain valve during one night, and using a couple of crescent wrenches this was fixed but the owner showed no gratitude for the free repair job. All faucets and fixtures seemed like they were plumbed by a kindergartner. 4.) The lake home we staying in was filthy and seemed that it hadn't been cleaned in some time. Spiders crawled out from cracks everywhere. 5.) I also take issues with being charged $100 for a boat slip that should be included within the price of a lakeside resort. It seems that most resorts on Leech Lake are this way but it would be a benefit not to nickel and dime customers. We have stayed for years at a couple of resorts on Lake Winnie and never been charged for a slip or ramp fee. 6.) The one person that seemed to care was Jason the dock hand. My hat goes off to him as he always was there when needed. Most daily activities are non-existent unless requested - i.e. nightly bonfires. If you wanted a fire you had to do it all yourself. I don't recommend this resort and our family will definitely not return. A stay at a Lake Winnie resort would have been comparable and half the price at most.
I am actually not surprised at the review from Ms. Berg below. We were there the same weekend and her group basically took over the entire resort, leaving their items all over the grounds and obstructing other cabins from basic enjoyment of the resort area. I talked to several other cabins that week who were also unhappy with the entitled manner in which they "owned" the resort that week. As to her ski rental complaint, her group rode the jet skis into the swimming area (dangerous if you had children there, which I did) and proceeded to spend most of their time using the jet skis to do donuts in the water close to the swimming area. Her group's selfishness and disregard for fellow resort guests is really my only complaint with the week. Yes, the power went out but the owner and staff were constantly scouring the grounds trying to pick up downed branches and trees as there were storms on consecutive nights and both were pretty destructive. One tree took out the deck of a cabin far away from Ms. Berg's group and the staff spent the better part of the day repairing the deck. As to the water, based on the way her group was too busy with themselves, I can see where they couldn't be bothered to go down to the lake and get water when the power went out. In the meantime, the rest of us went to the office and asked for updates to the situation. As a frequent, satisfied guest of Grand Vu, I am glad she and her group will not be back next year! If you are looking to be overly pampered and coddled, Leech Lake in general is not the place for you. If you are looking for a good week on a large Minnesota lake and an opportunity to interact with good people, Grand Vu is a good place to go and we will be coming back next year!
We recently stayed at Grand Vu resort, we've been going for years. We will Never go back! The owner has the Personality of a rabid dog! The cabin we rented was not clean. The plumbing leaked and so did several windows during a storm. The washer and dryer did not work. We didn't get the Pontoon we rented the 1st day,(we were given a discount) the entire experience was not a good one. All said and done we will Not be going back. There are so many resorts to choose from I'm sure we can find one that is much nicer, and friendlier!
The Grand Lodge was a complete dump!! The floors were filthy, the bathrooms were not cleaned before our stay, you have to pay $75 to use the jacuzzi which was covered in cobwebs and bugs, the terrain is treacherous, the service in the office was terrible, there were stinky rabbits right outside our cabin, the lawns were not mowed, they double booked our pontoon and we did not receive a refund for the day that we missed out on. Worst resort I have ever stayed at.
This place is incredible! There's so many activities going on everyday especially for kids and the office lodge is a nice relaxing place to hang out for both kids and adults. The cabin could have been a little cleaner as far as a few bugs but in that environment they can be hard to control and we didn't go to spend all of our time in the cabin anyways. The owner Jeff is very kind and was super accommodating.
Just returned from a week at Grand Vu Lodge. Stayed in the "Beach House" (three bedroom, three bath) and thoroughly enjoyed our family vacation! The amenities are numerous including planned daily activities for the kiddos; all complimentary. Though it may not be the least expensive place to stay on beautiful Leech Lake, you get what you pay for and don't get "nickeled and dimed" on the activities. The location on Pine Point is perfect for all water activities and fishing hot spots. The staff are great; especially the dock "boys"/maintainence/fishing guides/jack of all trades men Jason & Daley! The resort hosts an adult social on Monday nights (again complementary) and though my wife and I aren't extremely outgoing, have met many new friends to hang out with through out the week by attending. This is a higher end lakeside resort...if your expecting "perfection", book a 5 star hotel. Some people seem to forget the beauty of a family resort is the cabin atmosphere, being in a non-pristine nature setting, on a georgios lake (even though the cabins have Wifi, satellite TV, many with dishwashers, washer/dryer and two person jetted tubs). Would highly recommend...Relax and enjoy!
A wonderful resort/lodge to vacation at. They have a wide variety of cabin styles to accommodate pretty much any and all size group. They have a large cabin, the Grand Lodge, that can sleep up to 25. All the cabins are very nice and cozy. We stayed in a smaller cabin, and it had a full kitchen. They have a large amount of fun water activities, a water trampoline, water slide, hydro-bikes, paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, etc. They also have a playground and basketball/tennis court (quite run down though). The main Lodge had a game room with a pool table and arcade games and DVDs for rainy days. It also has a bar, but no major food options, which is the only downside. The dock help are some of the nicest people, they'll help you put in and take out your boat, and launch and dock every time. They have 91 octane fuel for sale at the dock so you don't have to worry about filling. They will also clean your fish for you when you catch them (did a good job besides one of our pieces). The resort also has options to rent jet skis, and they will take you out tubing if you sign up. They also have a ferry service to the other affiliated resort. Overall we had a great experience and would recommend to anyone wanting to stay on Leech Lake.
We have stayed there for 4 years and booked our 5th. Jeff and Jason have been very accommodating and fair to deal with. Yes, there were some bugs, but given the time of year you would need to clean each unit every hour to control.
Wow. The maintenance of this resort is absolutely terrible. So bad it makes you wonder if they are trying to scare away customers. The American Dream cabin was a nightmare. We talked to other guests and they expressed the same issues. This is just a list of the issues with the cabin. You can imagine the rest of the common grounds of the resort. Thankfully being with family were we able to overcome this mess and still have a great time.
The vacuum was dumped in the landscaping. I thought a squirrel died. Deck boards were coming up. Doors on the "screened" in porch had a huge gaps so big that gophers and squirrel could get in. Front door does not lock. Cabin was not vacuumed as we found dog hair all over the rugs. Light bulb hanging from a recessed light fixture. A kitchen cabinet door was missing the front of it. Dishes were dirty and had to be cleaned. Screens of the windows were all bent and 1 screen was missing from a room. Light bulbs were burnt out. Black mold in every bathroom. Tiles coming up in all of the bath room and missing grout. DVD player was missing. Found behind the TV. Every door would not close and I had to fix 1 door so I could close the door to the toilet. TV cable was fuzzy. Fixed by playing with the cord. Shower door was off the tracks. Broken table upstairs. TV remote missing upstairs. Linens were not changed as it had dog hair all over it. Upper deck was needed to be washed off. Dirt and cobwebs everywhere. Shower head would spray everywhere in you room if used. The cabin was extremely dirty and full of cobwebs everywhere. Ceiling fan in the great room not working. Would not go faster than low setting. Coffee maker broken. Futon "couches" were filthy and uncomfortable to boot. Hot tub needed to be cleaned. Furnace filter looked like a dead cat. I don't think it had been changed in 5 years. Previous renters bar soap and shampoo still in the bathrooms. Freezer had mold next to the ice maker. Portable fan provided did not work. Florescent light missing from vanity. No Wi-Fi in cabins as advertised.
The owner recorded our reservation incorrectly. We requested a fishing package and all we had was a cabin. He said we should have read our confirmation. He was right as we found there was a charge for harbor on the confirmation. When someone rents a cabin during a time when most people go to the lake to fish, you would expect the owner to ask if they intended to fish. Then he would need to know if they wanted to rent a boat or bring a boat. We had a harbor charge on our reservation. He said he thought we were bringing our own boat. That would be a good trick since we don't own a boat. I feel he made a mistake, either because he does not pay attention to detail or because he didn't want to give us a package deal. We lost a half day of fishing and the trip cost us several hundred dollars more because we had to rent a boat. The owner has the personality of a knat, was very rude and has minimal hours (never around). We had previously rented a cabin and found this cabin was very run down. The Jacuzzi tub was a mess. Some black flakes came out of the faucet the first time we tried to take a shower. The tub was not level so water sat in one end and would not drain. I wouldn't us the Jacuzzi because the jets were very dirty. There was lots of caulk on the tub, which makes you wonder what might be growing underneath if it leaks so bad around the tub and faucet. The lower kitchen cabinets had mouse dropping in them. The owner leaves his lab on the property at night unattended so we were woke at 2 am one night and 4 am another night when the dog was aggressively barking. I won't go back to this resort. The only good thing is we found out what it was like before we planned a family vacation with out children and grandchildren.
Our group have stayed at Grand Vu for 10+ years, we will not ever stay there again. We found out what kind of person the owner really was. If you are looking for a place to stay there are many resorts in the area that are not Anderson resorts.
Will never return. The main lodge is dilapidated and run down. Remodeled in 2016 my ant fanny. I'm a carpenter for 30+ years with multi faucets in the field. If it was it's the shoddiest work I've ever seen. Like walking through a fun house the house has settled so much. Another user is correct about owner playing with hot water supply. Ours went out for 2 days they fixed it in 10 min saying it was element, bs. Then morning of check out no hot water again to shower before we left hhhhmmmm. Shyster, scrooge McDuck. Kitchen was dirty when we got there and no parking for a 5000 dollar a week cabin.
A perfect place for a lakeside vacation. A very friendly and professional staff along with beautiful well maintained cabins. Not far from Walker, MN. Lots to do, and a wonderful vacation spot. Highly recommend checking it out.
American dream cabin was filthy. Dog hair left on futons from previous people. Bed linens were of extremely poor quality. Called to rent a boat, made a reservation. Called back to confirm, reservation was lost, no boat was ever available. The cabin was extremely musty. This is not a resort level cabin where you need to supply your own towels and vacuum the dog hair off the couch yourself. The front screen door didn't close fully, which is a real problem with a toddler. My asthma was so strongly affected by the ever present mold and must, we needed to leave after 2 days!! What a huge (thousands of $$$) waste of money and effort for a wasted vacation.
There is so much fun activities for the kids to do. Hot water, the cabins were clean and neat. So much people to hang out the the environment is amazing I recommend this Restort for everyone looking for a good time. However, it s expensive please lower the price thank you
This place is a dump. We stayed at American Dream, this is our third year staying at this resort. Our group has 30 people and rent 5 cabins. The cabin was filthy, there was hair in the bathtub drain, cobwebs and dead bugs everywhere, the two couches are futons and were absolutely filthy- I can guarantee you they have not been cleaned in many many years. In Old Glory, there was poop coming up through the shower drain, one of the cabins had mold all over the bathroom. We lost power due to a big storm and the owner did NOTHING to accommodate or communicate with his guests on what was going on, i.e. when they thought power would be back on, what they were willing to offer to help considering we had no running water and had to haul a bucket of water up from the lake and pour in to the toilet bowl in order for it to flush. The owner was super rude about the jet ski rental. No help on the docks at all. The owner was not at all accommodating or helpful. This place is very dirty and run down. I would NOT RECOMMEND this place. Our group will be finding a new resort next year.
Cabins are filthy and halfway through our stay our hot water went out. This was unfortunate because have kiddos with us and one had an accident and we were unable to give them a bath because there was no hot water. Oh and if you need any assistance after hours you can forget about that. We asked the owner if there was an after hour emergency line and he told us to call 911. What a joke! The kids activities were very basic. This resort needs a major update for the price! Oh and be prepared to pay a dock fee if you bring your own boat. Only gave this place a three because the water was fun and we had fun on the boat we got. We rented a pontine from this man and it was so filthy and ripped seats, we were able to find a man on Craigslist that had a boat for much cheaper and so much nicer!!! Do your research and read the reviews. Save your money and go to a better resort
This place is overpriced as cabins are old and low maintenance. Cabins are noisy as they are right on top of each other. No place to park. Everything is overpriced. The owner is rude and doesn't care about guest experience just making money. Take your hard earned vacation money somewhere else and enjoy your vacation. Not worth the hassle!
Best resort ever! Everything was perfect the environment, activities, cabins were cleaned and amazing! For the people who are writing bad reviews there just mean people my family went up there for years and every year we chose different cabins and all of them were cleaned up it smelled good it was just amazing I love Grand Vu Lodge
