Grand Velas All Suites & Spa Resort, Playa del Carmen Mexico Review

Excellent hotel, unparalleled service and superior quality

We had a great time at the Grand Velas. We stayed at the Grand Velas in Nayarit the first year it was open and had a great time as well. Since then we have stayed at the Velas Vallarta because we travel with our family of 13 people and love the two-bedroom suites.

This time my husband and I traveled alone and could not have been happier. By the end of the trip servers and the wonderful pool people were calling us by our names. The food was delicious and we never felt the need to leave the resort. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

I can truthfully say and my wife will agree that this resort and it's people were "The Greatest" . We have been on may trips before but absolutely nothing compares to the service and friendliness we experienced on this trip. Special praise should go to Jaime and David, our concierges at Cedro. They made our stay extremely enjoyable and memorable. We will do our best to visit you again. Thank you very much. Morel Elmer

The resort is gorgeous- stay at the Zen, it is a jungle oasis - we saw monkeys outside our room! The rooms are huge and the service is exceptional. Food was well above average for resorts, with nice variety. Entertainment was the only weak spot, but after all the sun and swimming we were not looking to stay up late. Fewer free activities than other resorts we ve visited, but we supplemented with some excellent excursions, which were highlights of the trip. The spa was exceptional-very special water cures area (steam, sauna, dynamic pool and more) even before you do any services. Overall a beautiful and luxurious place to stay for families or adults.

Stayed in the Grand Class Suites... It was like something out of a magazine!! Everything from the staff to the food was on point. I highly recommend getting a message if you stay here. By far the best money I've ever spent!

Grand Velas resort is a gorgeous getaway. Part of the resort is in the jungle, the other on the beach. The views are stunning. The service is unbeatable. A perfect destination for relaxation. We love that it is all inclusive including fine dining with lots of restaurants to choose from.

Best service imaginable. The rooms, restaurants, grounds and the location are second to none.

What a fantastic family vacation! This place manages to be luxurious without being pretentious. They know what you need before you need it. As a New Yorker and foodie, I cannot say enough about the quality of food everywhere on the resort. The poolside food was excellent and the gourmet dining experiences were memorable. We feared that we wouldn t feel like we got a chance to relax being that we brought our 4 and 6 year old along but they were begging to go to the Kid s Club daily. We were able to balance pool time and lunch or breakfast with the kids and then they happily went off to the Kid s club where they engaged in many fun experiences and hands on activities. Some nights they went to eat with the other kids at the club which allowed us to have adult only dinner. Our concierge Roberto was excellent and went above and beyond when a mistake was made with our excursion to Tulum. We especially loved the pool side staff. The sunglass cleaning service in the morning was an excellent touch. Jorge and Luis were standouts.

Superb. If you want to experience the very best level of service in Mexico, here is where you want to be. This impressive Resort will blow your mind away and will keep you coming back. I just came back to the USA and I can't wait to go back and experience it again.

I received a trip to the Grand Velas Riviera Maya through our business. Everyone from the shuttle drivers to waiters and waitresses, cleaning staff etc. were all extremely friendly and would stop what they were doing on the spot to help out in any way needed. An incredible group employee effort to allow their guests a comfortable quiet stay. Food was great and the choices and selection were top notch. We look forward to being able to return to the Grand Velas in the future.

Have traveled extensively in Mexico and by FAR Grand Velas Riviera Maya is the ultimate in luxury from the room, view, amenities, service and amazing food and drinks!!

Grand Velas is expensive BUT it is absolutely worth every penny spent. This was our second visit and we were amazed all over again.

This resort was excellent for a family! Every inch of the resort was clean and safe. So many activities for everyone. Great pools and beach was perfect Food was awesome and all employees were outstanding! We could not have asked for anything more from a resort.

My wife and I visited Grand Velas Riviera Maya for our honeymoon and couldn't of been more blown away. From the relaxing atmosphere to the unbelievable service, we could not of had a better time. We stayed at the Zen suites and you truly feel like you're secluded on the property. The beaches have the softest sand I've every felt and the staff on the beach was top notch as well. My wife and I signed up for a couples message experience at the spa and it was tremendous. It was truly relaxing and therapeutic. Finally, if you like food then this is the place for you. The restaurants are some of the best food I've ever had and there's 8 of them, so you have plenty of options. Overall, if you're looking for a relaxing getaway with all the amenities you can imagine, then visit Grand Velas Riviera Maya. I promise you won't be disappointed.

There is no complaint whatsoever .. everything was magnificent. Excellent. Yes

Amazing all-inclusive resort. Setting was crazy, food was lights-out, and service outstanding. Cancun/Playa de Carmen area has a really rocky ocean floor in the surf as you first wade in from the beach... some other resorts nearby groom swimming/wading areas for you, removing all the rocks so it's soft and sandy under your feet as you wade out. Grand Velas does not, and that is sort of a bum bum. But hey, that's the way the region really is, so in a way it's just keeping it real... Still, my feet didn't like keeping it real. Everything else about the property and the stay is a vision of perfection, except the check out process was unnecessarily burdensome and long... Especially if you are rushing to catch a flight. We had lots of time, so it didn't add stress, but it seemed silly to make us individually settle up at the counter and fill out a lengthy survey before they would give us this paper slip that tells the shuttle driver it's ok to go ahead and driver us away. Hey guys, you had my credit card on file for incidentals... If I owed you something (which I didn't), just do what every other hotel in the world does and charge me already. Still, the experience is so over the top, there was no way for me to remove a Star.

We had a marvelous time , the resort is very clean and the view that we had from our ambassador suite ( fourth floor ) was amazing .
The staff is so helpful everyone is smiling and they spread happiness . The service was outstanding and the food was very good .
The concierge was very helpful he booked all our dinner reservations and arranged our pick up to the airport, briefly we had nothing to worry about .
We were able to leave our 9 years old daughter anywhere and felt she was safe and happy !

Water did not regulate properly, or very cold or very hot.

We had a great time. I was visiting with my mother and sister, and we felt very well taken care of. The concierge staff on the fourth flour could not have been more attentive and helpful. The pool staff were also very nice, as were those at the front desk and in the gift shop. The architecture and foliage were beautiful, and the food at Chaka was outstanding.

Outstanding all inclusive resort on the Maya Riviera with cutting-edge dining fare that includes modern twists on Mexican cuisine. There's a five-diamond AAA restaurant, Cocina de Autor, that's a can't miss. Mixologists throughout the resort come up with tasty, interesting drinks. Great architectura and pool areas that mix a sleek modern style and amenities with native materials. Incredible spa. Grand Velas deserves credit for respecting the environment and minimizing its footprint on a site filled with mangroves.

there were maybe 30% occupied and they put a young family with young children on BOTH sides of my room...i presume to make it easier for the staff to clean and service. they could have given us a room without neighbors, but didn't. i complained and the lady at the front offered me nothing for the inconvenience of going to sleep and waking each morning listening to the screaming kids.
beyond that, they advertise volleyball, but they didn't host one game during my multi-day stay there.

Resort was incredible. Food & wine quality was extraordinary, perhaps best I've had anywhere in Mexico. Service was outstanding and the experience at the spa was over the top.

The property itself is, I think, pretty standard for an upscale all-inclusive resort, with some really unique jungle ambiance in the Zen area. The pools were lovely and the beach, while full of seaweed, was immaculately kept by the staff. Speaking of, the staff was constantly cleaning and performing upkeep in almost every area of the resort, and constantly looking to go out of their way to provide whatever the guests needed.

The biggest thing that sets this place apart from other great resorts in the area (e.g., Rosewood and Banyon Tree) is its incredible food. Every meal, even in the 'standard' restaurants, was marvelously plated and with high regard to culinary excellence. The AAA 4 and 5 Diamond restaurants, Frida, Lucca, and Cocina de Autor, were beyond our wildest expectations for what we'd find on an all-inclusive resort. The wine pairing and tasting menu at Cocina de Autor, in particular, was better than some tastings we have had at Michelin starred restaurants, so kudos to them on an excellent experience.

Our only complaint was that, since we arrived during the low season, almost everything was closed or under repair. From what we heard, they were only at 7% occupancy and it was the height of hurricane season, so part of this is our fault, however there was zero communication before-hand about would be closed and for how long. We basically found on during the week that Cocina de Autor was going to be closed, and only late found out they were moving it to a new location in the Bistro Restaurant. Same goes for Sky Bar, and the Spa. I felt like we paid a huge amount of money and didn't experience the resort the same way we would of had we come during other times of the year -- had someone told me that it would be so different we may have changed our plans.

This was our 5th time visiting Mexico and this resort was the absolute best place to stay! The staff went above and beyond in every aspect....from greeter, concierge, food and beverage and spa attendants! Whoever runs this resort should be very proud.

Excellent !!! The attention from all the staff who have attended us has been excellent. The main one has been to see the smile on the faces of all the staff. As if we have known each other for a long time, enjoy our visit, a thousand thanks for all the attention and services.

I have traveled quite a bit and this resort is really really above 5 stars. from the bedding, mini-bar, service, restaurants, you are treated like a king, everybody knows your name and no demand is not met.the only thing about this resort that is not really my style is there is not much animation and not much party. (don't go if you are single, unless just to relax). Really want to tip my hat to Santiago, the concierge, Daniel at the Azul lunch buffet (my wine guy), Geremiah at the piano bar (this guy even stayed after his shift to be with us on his last day!)and last but not least Ignacio at the pool (this guy is a 5 diamonds guy in every aspect).Dream vacation and will really miss the staff and the attention to detail and customer service I got from everybody at Grand Velas. probably on of the most kid friendly places i have been, kids club and teen clubs are awesome, my niece actually asked every day to go back! lol

Thank you for the wonderful experience! The setting and location was a great complement to Dr. Joe's week long workshop. I can't wait to go back! See you in December! :-)

Truly a luxury resort without being pretentious. Caters so well to families with thoughtful touches in the room for kids, lots of connecting rooms, and amazing kids/teens clubs. I would recommend a suite in the Grand Class section if you really want to be spoiled and have your own plunge pool!

Amazing experience - thrilled to have spent 4 days at Grand Velas. Service was impeccable. While we were a bit hesitant to stay in the Zen Suites part of the property given its location and the need to use a shuttle to and from the beach area, we were so happy to have stayed here - much quieter than the Ambassador area and unique with beautiful walkways carved through the jungle. The zen pool was beautiful as well. The shuttle was quick, easy and comfortable and we never found ourselves waiting. The ONLY drawback to the property was the ocean - being that it was quite rocky. We still spent a lot of time on the beach, but opted to swim in the pools rather than the ocean.
