We went there for a very special Birthday and quit...

We went there for a very special Birthday and quite frankly we wished we hadn't. We expected a lot more from a hotel this good. We arrived and weren't directed to a seat. We ended up in a dingy lit room without a window to its name! So much for a beautiful view of the estuary! It ended up it was a carvery. I'm not a fan of carverys but this one was particularly poor. Very small selection of dishes. Unless you like roasted meats there is very little choice. The only options available was roast beef, ham or turkey, salmon, chicken supreme, cold quiches or salads. There was no vegetarian option. The carvery servers were short and dismissive. I decided on the quiche and it was actually self service for cold foods. When I asked for chips and the server told me dismissively that they'd none ready it would be 5 minutes. My sister ordered the salmon she was told it would be 10 minutes. We went to pay. The cashier got confused taking payment for 7 dinners, desserts and drinks. There was 3 staff standing behind him talking who were meant to be taking drink orders. When I asked could I get drinks I was looked at then they returned to their conversation! Eventually a supervisor came and took our payment and we ordered drinks from him, he was very nice and helpful and said he would get them dropped down to the table. We found a table and sat down, there were children running around the tables unsupervised. It took 10 minutes for my chips to come and 20 minutes for my sister's salmon. My Mum asked a waitress for some water for the table and she pointed over to an area and said water is over there then she seen my mum's walking frame and said oh I'll get it for you. She arrived back at the table with a tiny jug and two small tumblers. When our food plates were cleared away the waitress looked at how much food was left over on our plates, then scurried off actually scurried off in case WE were going to say something. Every other restaurant I have ever been in would have asked straight away was the food not to our liking. In fact one time my sister actually was not that hungry and the waiter asked a few times did she not like it, she coukd order something else free of charge. The drinks finally arrived ten minutes after our food plates were cleared away I would understand if it was tea and coffee but this was soft drinks, wine and sparkling water to drink with our meal. We intended to go into the lobby for tea and coffee as the room lacked any type of ambience. Out of 7 of us only one of us liked our food. Mine was freezing, tasteless and the chips were undercooked. Others said that theirs were either mediocre or tasteless. Not something that you would expect from the Grand. So much for a special 40th birthday celebration! Never again will I go here. I have been in many, many restaurants in hotels, from ordinary three stars to tropical 5 star hotels and I honestly don't think I've ever had such a poor experience. My Mum and her sisters go away every spring and had stayed there once and intended going back there in September for a little break, they have no intentions of doing so now. All in all I believe it is the name that is being traded on. There is even evidence in other areas of the hotel of things starting to go down. The public toilets just off reception are due a facelift, the decor tired and some things in need of repair. This is very sad. Such a beautiful building.

Sir crew from air force one stayed there. Nicely extended modern hotel with historical accents right in the middle of malahide village. Great if your business is that side of the city but also ideal for a weekend away. DART to Dublin if you want and visit Malahide Castle .

The room itself was nice, as were the staff and facilities. Spa, sauna, steam, pool are always welcome. I would advise against booking a package meal deal. My wife and I found the food to be quite lacklustre, especially considering the price/reputation. Pub menu fared better though, so lunch would be a viable option.

Malahide Town/Village is just down the road and there's more than enough restaurants to satisfy your needs. Special mention must go to Kathmandu Kitchen, glorious!

Public areas were lovely, staff were lovely and very professional.
Bedrooms were very dated and there was a gap under my bedroom door I could fit my credit card upright under.
Shower wasnt great pressure wise.
And the que for breakfast at 10am was 10 minutes.
Needs to be refurbished in all bedrooms.

We were "upgraded" to the executive wing, but it was definitely not an upgrade. I would have rather been in the older part of the hotel for $100 less. We could hear our neighbor brushing his teeth (among other things). Someone was smoking near us because we could smell that as well. The doors SLAMMED shut all throughout the night as people would come and go. The website says these rooms are "updated" but from the looks of it, that had to have occurred in the 90s. The bed was fine, but again we heard everything our neighbor did and said. Breakfast was fine, not the best we had in Ireland for sure. The main part of the hotel is old and beautiful which was parr for the course for all of the plans we stayed in Ireland, and the bar was enjoyable as well. The location was great. walkable to restaurants and the walking path on the water was lovely. Also it was nice being able to get to the airport the next morning without having to drive through Dubin. If I were to stay here again I would definitely check out the room first.

The duty manger Nicholas made us feel very unwelcome. Talked to us in a condescending way. The staff were disrespectful. The facilities were not up to standard. Wouldn t recommend if you want to have a good stay.

I always love the "old lady" of Malahide i.e the Grand Hotel. The hotel's seaview rooms have wonderful coastal views onto the estuary of Malahide and Malahide Marina. I have stayed on many occassions over the years and always come away relaxed and refreshed. Thank you to all the staff in Grand Hotel.

Horrendous. Didn't sleep a wink. Very disappointed and taking the mick with 16 Euro breakfast. Do not stay in 800 rooms, they are right next to the front door, so you will hear everything that goes on outside. Very disappointed and would not stay there again even if it was free. Would feel more relaxed in a tent on the beach.

My first time in Dublin and decided to take a trip to Malihide today. The Grand hotel was recommended after speaking to a few people as a lovely place to eat. They were not wrong. Not only have i just had the most beautiful dinner, and compliments to the chef, but the gentleman waiting on me could not do enough to meet my needs. Steven was very attentive, and nothing was a bother to him. His manners were impeccable. He was very proffessional, and i can see an absolute asset to this hotel. Thank you Steven for an enjoyable evening. Will definitely recommend The Grand Hotel to any friends who visit in the future
