My husband & I first came to stay at the Grand Hotel last year for the Celebrate Your Marriage conference. We fell in love with EVERYTHING "Grand. We were so excited to come back this year! We stayed a few days before and after the conference and got to explore more of the hotel & the Island. It's a magical place! Thank you for offering the discounted off season rates that make it possible for us to go. I was 37 weeks pregnant and we still stayed a week biking, dancing, eating lavishly and having the time of our lives! I most enjoy getting dressed up in our formal wear, doing my hair and make-up fancy, getting our pictures professionally taken every evening and eating an amazing dinner! We always meet interesting people while waiting in line too. After dinner, we enjoy the live music and dancing, staying through the last song every night. After that we take a stroll on the front porch and sit watching the stars and listening to the waves. We usually have the entire place to ourselves. It's so romantic I thank you for keeping up the traditions, keeping the dress code and expanding the pool area with the wonderful spa and infinity pool. The Grand never disappoints! We can't wait to see you next October & do it all over again!

The Grand is exquisite. The attention to detail in the dinning hall is wonderful as well as the service. The variety of menu choices and the food is hands down 4-Stars and perfectly prepared and served. This will not be an inexpensive experience but it is worth it, excluding the $20 Bloody Mary's.
Arrive in time for dinner your 1st night and stay for 3 evenings. BTW, even-numbered rooms face the water, odd-numbers have a limited view of anything.

The most amazing place I have ever visited in the United States! We were greeted by very helpful staff and they were professional and knowledgeable about this historic site. We just came for the day because the rooms were booked but we just had to enjoy some porch time Grand Hotel style! We toured the grounds and the swimming pool and everywhere we went it was exceptionally well maintained and beautiful. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys the experience of a lifetime and being pampered royally. I hope we are fortunate enough to return here one day because we had the best time of our 14 years of marriage! Thanks to all the staff at the Grand Hotel for a wonderful anniversary celebration!

Everything about the Grand Hotel is elegant and beautiful. The grounds and gardens are colorful and continually updated. The new pool area is colorful and very family friendly from the zero entry to all the amenities. The rooms are colorfully decorated and each is different. There is an evening dress code and it's fun to dress up for dinner and go into the main dining room to be served by elegant waitstaff in formal wear. The food is top notch and there are many choices. Desserts are fabulous. There is much to do if you want or it's fun to take a seat in a rocker on the porch and watch boats and people go by. It even smells good thanks to the signature geranium scent!

We had a very nice experience visiting the hotel this time. Your improvements to the pool and pool area were amazing. Our room was clean and quite nice. The staff was helpful and friendly. I was disappointed with a few things:
1- you used to have complementary coffee in the morning for guests to drink on the porch. This was missing.
2- We tried the afternoon tea for the first time. The service and presentation were lovely. The tea and champagne were very good. The sweets and savory snacks served at tea time were not very fresh or tasty. I was disappointed in the food for the price that I paid.
3- We ordered room service and were disappointed with the club and grilled cheese sandwiches. They were both cold and appeared to have sat a while before we received them.

Check-in was easy and friendly. Our room was ready upon our arrival, about 2-2:30. Room was lovely and immaculate. We visited the Cupola Bar and bar just below it and enjoyed a cocktail before dinner. Dinner: Elegant and delicious and I succumbed to the signature pecan ball! Our waiter was friendly and outstanding. We slept well in a comfortable bed and enjoyed breakfast in the dining room. Checkout was easy and we sat in rockers on the porch until 1:00, when we met friends at the Gate House. I LOVE the Grand and have stayed there for 20 years with the Win-Some Women Conference. My husband asked me to marry him while on the Island during the fall of 1978!!! We intend to return every fall. Thank you for the awesome weather this year!

Our family always enjoys our trips to the Grand Hotel and look forward to visiting again. We very much enjoyed the upgraded bathroom, the new concierge desk (great idea to move that!) and can't wait to use the new, VERY beautiful pool (a little bummed not to see the horse & carriage on the bottom any more.)

Great experience Somewhere in Time. Excellent service. Wonderful meals, cocktails and atmosphere. Be careful when taking the Ferry. Shepler's Ferry is a good operation, however, the Grand Hotel is a bit disorganized for your return trip. Checking in was flawless and the bellman brought the bags to the room, but on checking out the hotel has two sets of luggage tags. One to return to Mackinac City and the other to St. Ignace. In our case the hotel gave us the wrong tags to the wrong location which is the equivalent of the airlines sending your bag so the wrong airport. Had we not called down to the desk multiple times and gotten the right tags it would have been a nightmare. Despite the memo the hotel puts under the door your last night that states at the bottom "if you received the wrong tags, switch them?!" A much better system would be to receive tags for this when you first check in and have the conversation "are you going back home to St. Ignace or Mackinac City?" Horse drawn carriages are cool, but you have to either make a reservation in advance or allow 2 hours to wait in line, get your carriage, wait in line at the Ferry dock and then hope your luggage is on your same ferry or you will wait another hour to get your bags. You can also try to "carry on" your bags on the carriage, which solves this. Plan ahead, keep asking the front desk all these questions when you first check in and before you check out to avoid delays and disapointment!

My wife and I spent the night at the Grand Hotel on October 18-19 and had a terrific experience. We decided to upgrade to a lake-view room, and we couldn't have been happier with the room we were given (364). Great view, very comfortable beds, nice furnishings. But, more importantly, every staff member we interacted with during our stay was friendly, helpful, and efficient, including the servers at dinner and breakfast and on the porch and in the Cupola Bar, the people at the front desk, and the young guy on the entrance steps who took our picture more than once. The hotel itself is, obviously, just beautiful, inside and out. We spent part of an afternoon on the big porch, having a drink and taking in the incomparable view. We enjoyed our food at both dinner and breakfast and had excellent service at both. But more than any single thing, the experience as a whole--the surroundings, the views, the sense of history and elegance (dressing up for dinner, something we normally would shy away from, is actually a nice touch in this context)--was really great. (We were also extremely lucky with our weather: two fantastic Fall days.) Five stars all the way.
